I'm afraid to speak,

He might not want to listen.

I'm afraid to perform,

He might not applaud.

I'm afraid to joke,

He might not laugh.

I'm afraid to write,

He might not read.

I'm afraid to smile,

He might not smile back.

But then I stop,

And think.

It's worth the risk.

I spoke,

He listened.

I preformed,

I applauded.

I joked.

He laughed.

I wrote.

He read.

I smiled.

He smiled back.

I realised,

That maybe this is how it goes.

You may be afraid,

But along comes the time,

When you can be brave,

And take a risk.
