Disclaimer on My Chemical Romance's "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love" CD
There was a pile of albums about a mile high on the counter in front of Danny.
He shifted to the side a little. Behind the stack of albums there was a girl. She wasn't young, but she was tiny. He briefly wondered how she could have carried all of those.
Danny grinned. "This it?"
"Yeah." The girl was digging around in her wallet. There was a thick line of baby blue under each of her eyes. It looked like paint.
Face painting is the new system of expression, Danny thought wryly as he scanned all the albums. As the stack moved from the counter into the plastic bag, more of the girl was revealed – scraggly pigtails, a tight tank top over a long sleeved shirt, a pleated skirt. Interesting.
He handed her the appropriate change. She leaned over the counter at him, almost leering.
"Anything else I can help you with?" Danny said after a moment.
"You can give me your number."
"Uh. That's against company policy. Sorry."
"Your loss." The girl whisked herself out of the store. The bell tinkled over the door as she left.
"Yeah," Chris peeked up from the Latin rack. "That was awesome."
"For you, maybe."
"Yeah, well. We all know that I get the quality ladies."
"Anything you say." Danny grinned and went back to looking through a cardboard box labeled 'New Arrivals.'
Chris dumped some disks on the counter. "So what are you doing this weekend?"
"I'm gonna buy new shoes."
Chris eyed Danny's shoes. The parts that weren't ripped were covered with writing.
"What about yourself?"
"I'm gonna take Dee out. We haven't hung out all week. Maybe you can come with us – bring Katie."
"Cause I see the way you look at her."
Danny grinned down into the box. "Katie… she's nice."
"Nice? She's hot, dude. You'd pass her up?"
"No. I don't think she trusts me, though."
"Why wouldn't she?"
"I don't know. Cause my shoes are all ripped up."
"Just because she doesn't run with your crew doesn't mean you can't date her."
Danny shrugged. "Crew? Yeah, I guess. She's just gonna have to get used to them, I guess."
"Yeah, getting arrested all the time can be something to get used to." Chris laughed and handed Danny the CDs. "Here, put these away when you're done. I'm out. And I'll see you on Friday."
"All right." Danny shoved the CDs Chris had given him to one side and continued looking through the box. "We'll be there."
