Title of the story is a Rihanna Song. Enjoy!
Kaylee looked down at the blank paper below her. She was trying to write a letter to her ex Nathan but it wasn't working out. He had moved to Florida with his mom after his parents spilt up. It broke Kaylee's heart when he told her that he had to break up with her, he didn't want to hurt her. She looked outside at the rainy Seattle weather, every time it rained it brought Kaylee back to the times she and Nate would dance in the rain thinking back on their memories always brought a smile to her face. The year they spent together was the best year of her life. Nate was always there when she needed him, even before they got together they were good friends and he was there when her mom died when she was 10 and 5 years later when her dad in the horrible car accident a year ago.
Now Kaylee was living with her 19 year old brother and his new live-in girlfriend. She counted all the girls who lived with them in the last 4 months and the total was at 7. Their names soon blended together like their hair colors. She hadn't had a boyfriend since Nate left because it hurt too much to open herself up. Her brother tried and failed to set her up with guys he met at work but they just turned out to be great friends.
The paper on her desk seemed to taunt her as she struggled with what to say to him. She wanted to tell him how much she still loved him and wanted to let him know that she would do anything if they could try to be together again. But the doubt in her head stopped her from pouring her emotions on to the page. So she decided to start with the basics in a letter. She struggled with the how are you and things about his family. She missed his little brother who always would give her candy and tell her she loved him. After putting the basic questions she felt that she was writing an old friend and not the love of her life. She stopped to take a deep breath before asking if he was seeing anyone. She filled him in on everything that had happened since he left, like what his old friends were up to and how they had remained friends after he left. She told him all about her brother's numerous live-in girlfriends and how it made her laugh at how dumb they were.
The last paragraph was the hardest for her she told him she missed him and hoped that he was happy in Florida and signed it sincerely and not love and her name. She folded up the letter and put it in the envelope. Grabbing jacket, car keys, and cell phone she dialed Jordan's number she waved goodbye to her brother and Jackee, at least that's what Kaylee thought her name was. Jordan picked up on the second ring, "Be ready in 5."
"Why?"
"I wrote the letter."
"Alright." And with that he hung up and she started her car. The drive to Jordan's took all of 5 minutes and he was sitting on his porch waiting for her with a smile of his face.
"Guess you had fun with Kasey."
"Yeah you could say that, so you finally wrote the letter?"
"Yeah and now I'm really nervous."
"Kay I talk to him all the time I know he still cares."
"But probably I like do." She murmured as she pulled into the post office parking lot. Jordan looked at her wanting to smack some sense into her. He knew that Nathan still cared about her from all the times that Nate would ask about her and ask if she was seeing anyone. He wanted so badly to tell her that Nate still loved her but Nate made him promise. Kaylee handed the letter to Jordan who threw it in the mailbox. She sat there and instantly regretted sending it. Jordan just ordered her to drive to Sky's the local diner to meet up with everyone.
Nate looked at the mail sprawled out on the counter and a letter in the all too familiar hand writing stood out amongst all the other envelopes; he quickly grabbed the letter and headed up to his room glad that the house was empty. He sat down on his bed and ripped open the envelope and the picture fell out. He slowly picked up and ran his finger over it, 'She is still the most beautiful girl in the world,' He thought to himself and he opened the letter.
Hey Nathan
Its been a long time, huh? Well how are you? How's Florida? How is school? Is your family okay? How's Mickey? Is he still cute? Are you doing okay? I am asking a lot of questions.
But things here are good as they can be; living with Luke is kinda weird because he has a new girlfriend living with us every couple of weeks or so. I've counted over the past 4 months and so far there have been 7 different girls. I don't remember there names, they've all blended like their hair colors. Everybody says hi, I was supposed to write this a month ago but kept pushing it off.
The guys and I are still great friends and surprising Jordan and I have become best friends, he's always there when I need him. He says that I shouldn't be hanging with them because girls might hate me and they can't offer me what girlfriends can offer but I think that the guys are the best friends that a girl can ask for. Oh I got my car, 2004 Civic silver 4-door just like what I said I would get.
So are you seeing anyone? It doesn't matter if are 'cause I won't be upset. Ya know we broke and all but I still want to friends. I hope the Florida sun is treating you right and you're doing well. Well I should go. Hope to hear from ya soon!
Sincerely,
Kaylee Rae
P.S. I sent you a school picture from this year just so you don't forget what I look like.
Nate finished the letter and quickly scrambled to find paper and a pen to write her back. He wanted to tell her so much and his hand moved furiously on the paper. An hour later he threw the letter in the mailbox and soon grew excited to read her reply. He walked in and saw his mother sitting in the kitchen reading the evening paper.
"Hey honey how was your day?"
"It was great." He beamed.
"Really what happened?"
"Well I got a letter from Kaylee." His mother looked at how happy her son was smiled at him.
"That's great honey, did you tell her?"
"No I think its better to surprise her."
"I wonder how much she's changed." His mother wondered aloud and Nate rushed upstairs and handed her the picture. "She looks just like her mother."
I hope you guys enjoyed this, I got the idea from a song.
