Chapter Three- Tales Become Truth

Katie woke up to the sound of her mother and father talking in the kitchen, downstairs. Quickly untangling herself from her sheets of her bed, she rushed to the kitchen. Upon entering the kitchen, she seen her mother sitting in a chair with her elbows on the table and her face in her hands. Her father was standing by the wall running a hand through his already messy hair, saying -'She'll understand, love. She'll know it was for the- Oh!' He had just noticed that Katie was in the kitchen. Her mother pulled her hands away from her face, and a look a pure shock showed. She rushed up to Katie, wrapping her arms around her neck, sobbing into her neck. In between sobs, Katie could make out some words, such as, 'Sorry', 'Moving' and 'One Week'.

At first this didn't make sense, but as she peiced the words together, it hit her. And it hit hard. She was shocked, but that was soon replaced with anger and terror. Pulling away from her mother she asked, 'Y-Your kidding, r-right? We're not m-moving early? ...A-are we?' Her father just looked down at his shoes, gave a great sigh, and nodded his head. She looked at her mother, begging silently with her eyes, but her mother could'nt even meet her eyes. Her face was buried once more in her hands. Katie ran to her room, screaming insults to her parents as she went. When she entered her room, she slammed the door, causing pictures in the hallway to fall with a shattering Crash! to the floor. She fell unto her bed, screaming into her pillow. After her voice was scratchy from all her screaming, she let the tears fall, and sobbed uncontrollably, wrapping herself in her comforter. When she could'nt cry anymore, she fell into a restless sleep...

Her parents tried -and failed- to get her to come out of her room for the remainder of the day. Giving up at 9 o'clock that night, they went to their bedroom, debating on what to do about their present situation. Katie awoke later on at 11:45p. Realizing she was due at Marlo's in 15 minutes, she brushed her hair quickly, grabbed her Nike runners, and her hoodie. Silently, she opened her bedroom door, and crept down the hall, and down the stairs. Silently, she opened the back door, and ran through her backyard, jumping the fence quickly.

When she reached Marlo's house she sat outside his window, waiting for him to open it. He would'nt open the window until 12:00AM. After 5 or so minutes, she heard the small click of the lock, and the soft scraping noise of the window. Looking over she seen that Marlo was staring at her intently. 'You coming in, or are we doing it outside?' he asked jokingly. She gives him a small smile, and crawls in through the window. Marlo had left the window and was over at his desk, writing on some paper. 'I've got an essay on WWII thats due on monday, so I figured I'd start on it while I wait for you.' 'Oh, I already finished my essay but mine was Germany.' She walked over at looked at his paper. 'Oh, you still need another full page of writing before your done yours. laughs' 'Yeah, Yeah. Rub it in' 'No, thats not what I mean. Anyways, can I take a shower. I have'nt showered today, and it feels gross. This way you can finish your essay, too.' She asked him. 'Yeah, just down the hall first door on your right,' he told her.

Katie walked down the hall and into the bathroom. She stipped of her clothing and stepped into the shower. Letting the hot, soothing water flow down her. After 20 minutes of scrubbing herself clean, she turned the water off and stepped out. Quickly drying herself off, she put her undergarments on, the wrapped a towel around herself. Carrying her sweats and hoodie, she exited the bathrooom.

Marlo's jaw dropped when Katie came into his room. Why is she just in a towel? Oh god! She's hot! 'Uhh..Mackenzie?' he gives her a questioning look, and all she did was smile. 'Yes, Marlo?' she asked sweetly. 'Uhh..your clothes..' he trailed off. 'Oh, right. Yeah, well these ones are all gross, so I don't want to put them back on.' 'Ooh, well them' Marlo walked over to his dresser, and pulled out a pair of black boxers, and a baggy, blue T-shirt. '..here. You can wear these.' He through tem to her, and she caught them, and quickly dropped the towel. Pulling the boxers on ver her slim hips, she pulled the T-shrt over her wet head.

'Ready for the story?' she asked him. He gave her a nod, and she climbed into the bed with him, snuggling close to him. And so she began her story...

. . . .After Katie's little kiss to Darren, she walked quietly to the kitchen, hearing her parents voices. When she got to the doorway she seen her mother with her head on her arms, resting on the table, and her father pacing the length of the kitchen, every once in a while running his hand through his hair. 'Honey, this is Katie. I mean she will understand that it was-' her father was cut off by Katie's own voice. 'I'll understand what, dad?' 'Well, sweetheart, your mother and I have decided to move the date up to next week. There are so many more offers, and we could get a good neighborhood, and-' again, he was cut of by Katie's voice. But now it wasn't timid, as if afraid of what she might hear. She had anger dripping from every word. 'I'm not going. I have a life here. I have friends. For God Sakes, dad! That would kill Darren. We've been bestfriends forever...and I'm not leaving him behind. I'm not going with you two! I hate you so much! I can't believe you two are that-that- selfish! Argg!' Katie stormed out of the kitchen and into her bedroom, hitting the walls as she went, and finally slamming her door, which caused a large crash, that she knew to be the large family portrait at the end of the hallway. . . .

Mackenzie looked to her left, and seen Marlo looking at her with wide eyes. '...Your-your Katie, aren't you? This story is about you!' he said, shocked. 'Yes, I'm sorry I didn't tell you. But I thought they wouldn't actually go through with it...I-I'm moving on Tuesday...' 'Aww..Kenzie..no..' Marlo started but didn't get to finish because Mackenzie was sobbing, trying to hold it in. ' It's alright. Come here,' he pulled her towards him, wrapping his arms protectivly around her, holding her tight,' I won't let you go. I don't care. You can't leave here. It'll be alright. Dont worry..Shhh..It's okay..' He continued whipsering reasurring comments into her ear until he felt her ragged breathing subside, and be replaced by a steady rise and fall of her chest, signalling she had fallen asleep...
