Love Has No Rules

"A Friday Night."

"I can't believe you talked me into this." Stella sighed, her eyes on the orange sky above. She had grown up in Los Angeles and loved it dearly, however she missed seeing the stars.

Feeling a lukewarm breeze against her skin, Stella indulged it while she could.

"You don't think I was just going to let you stay at home do you? I mean it's a Friday night for God sake."

Looking to Hailey, she crossed her arms over her chest. "It's going to be Sunday by the time we get in there."

"I know…." Stella sighed, peeking around the line. "Shouldn't take too long."

"Let's get this line movin'!" Derek yelled impatiently.

"Dude, they're going as fast as they can."

"Ryan, you don't understand." He turned to him in all seriousness. "You have to get in there before all the beautiful women are taken. If you partied more than once a year you'd know this."

"Are you dating that one girl? What's her name, Gwen?"

"Uhh yeah." Derek nodded, his eyes at the stocky bouncer ahead. "I went out to dinner with her yesterday."

"Well, doesn't that make you…." Ryan muttered, "Obligated of sorts."

"I was obligated yesterday. The sun has set and it's a new day and I'm obligation free."

"Does Gwen know this?"

"No." Derek shrugged, "And she won't know. I called her and told her I was having dinner with my parents."

"And she believed you?"

"Why not?" He huffed, straightening his olive green sweater. "I'm taking her tomorrow for lunch, so as far as she knows everything is peachy."

"Let me guess your taking her to lunch so you can 'sleep in', so to speak?"

"Well, you know what they say, 'if your going to have regrets in the morning sleep in too noon." Derek laughed, slugging Ryan in the shoulder. "Come on man, I learned from you."

"Whoa, whoa." Ryan held up his hands, "I am not taking credit for this disaster. This is on your head. And for your sake, you better hope Gwen has a sucky left hook. Because if she finds out…."

"I'm not worried." Derek waved him off, "So how about you? You gonna make the best of the night. If you know what I need." He nudged him in the ribs.

Looking down at his elbow, he raised his eyebrow at him.

"Come on, what happen to the Ryan Davis that I used to know. The bad boy that knocked em' while they were down. You were always a leader, what happen?"

"That was college, besides you can only do that so long before you get shot. Women now days don't take shit anymore."

Meanwhile, down the line Hailey and Stella still awaited impatiently in the line.

"You know, maybe we should just go home."

"Stella, listen to me." Hailey held tightly on her arms, "Stay on board with me here. You need to do this, for me."

"Hailey, you're being ridiculous." Stella giggled.

"Ridiculous? I haven't had you know in…" She trailed off, a broad smile on her face. "I'm dying Stella, seriously."

"If you say so girl."

"I do say so and I say that we are going to have a great time." Hailey eyed the front of the line. "Ooh come here and look at this." She yanked Stella's arm.

"What?"

Squeezed together, Stella strained to see. "What am I looking at?"

"The guy in the red." She pointed discretely. "You see him?"

"Yeah, what's the big deal?"

"He's absolutely gorgeous." She shoved her, "Look at that ass."

"Oh my God." Stella laughed.

"Oh you know what I'm talking about. I saw that glance."

"Ooh yeah Hailey." Stella rolled her eyes, "He's a real dish."

"Excuse me."

Suddenly, a tall blonde shoved her way through them.

"Uh, excuse me?" Hailey snarled as she eyed the woman down. "There are people standing in line if you didn't notice."

"You talking to me?" The woman swung around, her attention now on Hailey.

"Is there anyone else cutting here?" Stella broke her silence.

"What you gonna do about it?" The woman scanned them from head too toe.

"I'll tell you what I'm gonna do about it." Hailey stepped forward.

"Hailey, it's not worth it." Stella stepped between them. "Really, it's not worth it." Stella wrinkled her nose.

"Excuse me?"

"I'm telling you the green brings out my eyes."

"Who's gonna see your eyes?" Ryan grinned as he slipped his hands deep within the pockets of his black slacks.

"What about you? Goin' all Johnny Cash."

"Derek, it's not about what on the outside. It's about what's underneath."

"Yeah. Okay." Derek glanced to the end of the line. "Ooh look." He pointed.

"What? Is Gwen here?" Ryan leaned, as Derek punched his shoulder.

"No, bitch fight. See I told you this night was going to be great."

"They're not even fighting. When someone throws a fist, let me know." Ryan shook his head, as he looked up at the front of the line.

"You know this would be the perfect time to break in. Save the day, make some friends."

"By all means Romeo."

"What you don't think I should go over there?"

"You step outta line, you're screwed." Ryan told him, obviously becoming restless.

"Damn it." Derek followed the line forward. "Oh well, I'm not moving now we're almost in."

"Smart decision." Ryan patted his on the shoulder, "Besides, I wouldn't want you to get hurt or anything."

"Ha-Ha."

"I'm sorry, do you own this line?"

"What kinda question was that?" Stella laughed.

Suddenly from a man appeared from the end of the line. He was a small man, and the same height as Stella with heels.

"Sophia, lets go." He grabbed her arm.

"What, I don't wanna go."

Looking on Hailey and Stella could only laugh as the man started to pull her out from the line.

"How pathetic." Hailey whispered, as Stella listened to the man yell at the woman in Spanish.

"You weren't going to fight her."

"Says who?" Hailey stepped back, "Girl, I can throw a punch you know. Remember Kelli Barriger in High School."

"How could I forget all those angry cheerleaders."

"I know, they sure were feisty." Hailey searched through her purse.

"Don't under estimate a chick with pompoms."

"Yeah, really." Hailey laughed.

"What are you looking for."

"My cell phone."

"Oh please say you brought it."

Cringing, Hailey looked up from her purse. "Shit. I left it on the charger. I knew I forgot something."

"Smooth move Hal, how we gonna get home now?"

"Don't worry about it." Hailey assured her, "I can get us a ride." She laughed hysterically as Stella cracked a smile.
