Cold desert,

Where am I?

The heat tears apart my skin,

But the cold freezes my heart.

How can two different elements,

Work so perfectly, cruelly, together?

Stumbling, I found an ocean,

And I bathed in its waters,

Only to find that it cast a layer of ice around my skin.

And as I sat, looking at my destruction,

I saw, a part, a tiny way out.

And life was on the other side.

And, broken, slowly, I made my way towards it.

My door is shut? How do I get in?

Before these waves come crashing down on my existence.
