The next morning I woke up and I was positioned differently. My head was on a pillow and I had a throw blanket covering me. There was a little note on the ottoman with my name on it and hearts around my name. I opened it.

"Dearest Lucy,

I'm sorry I had to leave you.

I didn't want to get in trouble and I needed to go to school.

I'll drop by after school to check on you.

I love you.

-Aiden"

I jumped up from the couch and stretched up high. I definitely felt better, but I just hoped that Aiden didn't get sick from me. It's like I was a human plague. I walked into the kitchen. I looked over at the oven. It was noon. I opened the fridge and saw the cake sitting there, untouched. I pulled it out and on the top in red frosting it said "I love you Lucy, get well soon." I laughed silently. Slowly, I cut into the thick vanilla cake and cut myself a small slice. I grabbed a fork and walked back to go watch T.V. I surfed through channels, nothing good was on. Finally I just decided to watch the "6" second abs infomercial. After watching that for about an hour, I flipped to cartoons. Re-runs of Pinky and the Brain were on. I loved that show as a kid.

The doorbell rang, so I jumped up to see who it was. It was Aiden. When I opened the door I was shocked as to see the state he was in. He was as pale as a ghost and he had dark circles under his eyes.

"Oh, what happened," I asked frowning.

"I'm sick, but most importantly, how are you?"

"Good," I frowned, "I just wish I didn't get you sick."

"I guess that's what we get for loving each other so much," he said smiling.

"Yeah," I said agreeing, "How was school?"

"Gay," he replied.

"Did you like my cake?"

"It was great! I watched 6 second abs while eating a slice."

He laughed hysterically.

"I'll be right back," I told him.

"Okay."

I ran to the bathroom and looked in the medicine cabinet. I sifted through all the band-aid boxes and cough drops and got out some cough medicine.

"Here, you should take this," I told him.

"Okay," he said as he took out two pills.

"I hope you get better soon," I said frowning.

"Well, I'm not going to school tomorrow, I just want to get better," he said.

"I know what you mean love."

"Well I better be off," he said," I love you."

I gave him a kiss and a hug then he headed out.

That night I woke up and I was hot and tangled in my sheets. I got up briefly to get a glass of water. I stayed out in the dark kitchen for a while. I was feeling sad. I felt like Aiden was executing every effort possible to show me love, but I wasn't doing the same for him. It made me wonder what he though. I went back to bed feeling guilty.

My alarm clock rang loudly and obnoxiously, telling me to get my ass up. I hit the snooze button, and then sat up in bed, thinking about the night before. I decided I would go see Aiden after school, and get him something. Maybe, chocolate.

I started trudging to school a while after. As I passed all the yards full of crisp, brown leaves. I began to wonder what our relationship would be like when there were flowers blooming and bees buzzing.

Stop Lucy! Why do you doubt this relationship?

I walked on as my stomach twisted and churned.

"Lucy," said Jake, Aiden's best friend.

"Yeah?"

"Whatsup?"

"Not much. Aiden's sick."

"So I hear."

"What about you?"

"Just not looking forward to today."

"Why not?"

"Well, I have a test in Spanish."

"Oh, that blows."

"Yeah my teacher is a cunt."

I laughed, "Yeah so is mine."

"So are you going to homecoming?"

"Um…yeah with Aiden."

"Oh yeah," he said and slapped his forehead.

"Are you?"

"I haven't decided."

"Why not," I asked as I elbowed him slightly.

"Well…I don't have a date."

"I'm sorry. I know someone you might like," I replied.

"Is she like you?"

I laughed, "Well, I don't know, I guess. Why like me?"

"Probably because you're like my dream girl."

"Oh well…thanks," I said, while fake smirking due to being uncomfortable and being pleased at the same time.

"Well, I have to head to homeroom," I said.

"Okay, see you at lunch?"

"Sure…"

It's not that I didn't like Jake, it's just it seemed so out of no where. I mean he was nice, funny and cute, but I was deeply in love with Aiden and I wanted it to stay that way.
