It was like a dam had broken in and water had burst through. As soon as the words left my lips, I realized that was the reason I had come. Not to cuddle, not to see if she was a good person—of course she wasn't. There was no such thing. . . and if there was? The bad outnumbered the good, and eventually, all the good would have no choice. Adapt or die, it would be.

Life started, her lips parting in shock. "What?" she frowned lightly. "You sound so serious, it's scary."

I closed my eyes, imagining myself in the kitchen of her house, and grabbed the first knife I saw, and then I returned back to the basement. Her jaw dropped.
