But she kept silent,
In an attempt to save
Those she loved.
In the end,
It was all in vain
And one young prince
lost a limb
For all her pain.
She was bruised in her sleep
A pea that injured her sanity
She was a princess!
But no one believed her.
The prick of the spindle
was kinder than their words.
She grew tired of kissing frogs
And chose the first toad
Who came along.

That princess of sunshine and smile
Gave way to a queen.
She sits on her throne of ice
And offers a composed smile
Now and then.
A single red rose
Crumpled and black
Serves as a painful memory
Of who she once was.
