Prologue
The Prophecy Dead
"Sabrina, where are you!" a man's voice called out. Sabrina looked up from her work. There at the door was her fellow comrade Ket. There seemed to be a sense of urgency about him.
"What is it Ket, why aren't you with the other's?" Then with a growing sense of unease she glanced around, "Where is Mason, where is the Prophecy?" she stood up from her seat abruptly and in her haste knocking it backwards and onto the ground.
"Sabrina, Mason…he's…he's…dying." Ket told her in a shaky voice. Sabrina gasped, this couldn't be happening, the Prophecy couldn't be dying, he just couldn't be.
"No, he can't be," she stated in utter disbelief, Ket only nodded. "Take me to him." He nodded again and motioned for her to follow him. Then they were off running down a dimly lit hallway. It seemed like hours beforethey reached the chamber where the Prophecy stayed, but in truth it had only been a few seconds.
Sabrina wanted to just charge into the room and demand what the hell was going on. And why in the world had she just been informed that their Prophecy was dying. But Ket stopped her; he grabbed her arm and pulled her a few feet away from the wooden door. Sabrina glared at him, upset that he wouldn't let her go into the room.
"Sabrina you have to keep your voice low and don't shout. Everyone's already in there and show a bit of respect we don't need you to start and spout out a bunch of nonsense. Is that understood?" Ket asked still keeping a firm hold on her arm. Sabrina nodded and they both walked over to the wooden door.
At first neither of them moved. Sabrina had had first wanted to just burst right into the room. Now she wasn't so sure. The Prophecy, Mason, was dying. She wasn't sure that she could stand it if he died. She wasn't sure any of them could survive his death. But then the moment past and both Sabrina and Ket reached for the door handle. They gave a small push and the door opened into a large and dark room.
Sabrina instantly pulled away from Ket and walked towards the bed that was currently surrounded by four other people. Ket was only a second behind her, taking a second to close the door. Sabrina went around the other people and went straight to the head of the bed. And what she saw made her want to cry.
There, sweating in his bed, was Mason, The Prophecy. His face was flushed and his normally light brown hair was darkened with sweat. His breathing was ragged, but his eyes were as focused as they had ever been. This was a 23-year-old man, and he was dying. He was too young to die, too young.
Tears started to slip down her face. She wanted to turn away and run from the sight of him, the sight of him dying. She turned to look at her fellow comrades that surrounded the deathbed. Beatrice and Alison, sisters, were crying on each other's shoulder. Dimitri's eyes held unshed tears and his face was hardening already with the sense of loss. And poor Swan was crying openly into her handkerchief that was already soaked through. She didn't see Ket, but she knew that he was standing behind her, like he always was.
She turned to look back at Mason. It was so hard to see him like this. It was almost too much to bare. Sabrina felt Ket'shand rest on her shoulder, comforting her, She reached up and placed her's on top of his. It was then that Mason started to speak. But it was in a strong voice and not that of a man lying on his deathbed.
"You guys are being a little pathetic. I mean I'm only dying." He stated simply. We all stared at him shocked.
How could he say that, dying was a pretty big thing? He was going to be gone, they had failed him. He should be telling them how much we had failed to protect him. Sabrina wasn't the only one to think so, for Swan being who she is had to say something.
"Dying, your just dying." She said hysterically her voice starting to rise to a shout. "That's something huge, Mason. We failed you, we were suppose to protect you, but we didn't do a good enough job, because here you are on your deathbed and theirs nothing that we can do." She cried.
Mason glanced at her and smiled. The damn man was smiling. What in the world was wrong with him? Didn't he realize what was happening? He was leaving them, he was…damn it how many times was she going to have to think that word.
"Swan you were always a bit emotional at times like these. I'm going to miss that. Course I guess I'll see it again someday." He continued to smile, and he turned to look at the sisters. "The bonds of sisterhood are strong in deed, you two are very loyal to each other." They both turned to look at him.
He was saying good-bye to them. Short and sweet was always his motto andit seemed to stand even when he was saying his final good-byes. Why did he have to do this? Sabrina leaned back against Ket, barely able to stand on her own two feet. Ket wrapped his free arm around her waist and rested his chin atop of their hands. She could feel his tears dripping down onto her.
"Dimitri, I see we are still as stubborn as ever. Never wanting to show what your feeling." He stated practically laughing. "I must say, dear friend you are failing miserably at it." This time he actually chuckled a bit. Then Mason turned to look at Sabrina and Ket. "Ah and you two. Never far apart from each other. Most likely the closest of them all. Rarely ever did I see either of you two far from the others side from the moment that you met." He smiled at the both of them.
Sabrina wasn't sure weather or not she should laugh or cry even harder. What he was saying was true, but did he have to point it out now when he was going. She refused to even think of the other word any more. That one was a lie, he isn't going to do the other word; he was just leaving, that was all.
Mason turned back to look at them all now. He was about to speak when a fit of coughing stopped him. The sisters cried all the harder. Swan started hiccuping. Dimitri let a few tears drop down his pale face. Ket buried his face in Sabrina's shoulder. Sabrina on the other hand couldn't…no wouldn't look away from him.
"You have not failed me you know. I knew that this day was coming for some time now. Maybe I should have told you sooner, but I didn't want to upset you when I knew that it was a bit aways. Course I most likely should have told you when it was getting a bit close. Maybe get you use to the idea of letting me go. But I didn't, so this is where we ended up." He sighed and looked around at the people individually once more before looking at them as a whole again.
"You may see this as a bad thing, but in fact this is a pretty good thing. I have died young. I was always in this weak body. I knew from the beginning that I wouldn't last long in this one. It was sad indeed when I realized it, because I knew that I would not get a longer chance to know you all as I had the others. I only had a few years with you six. The others I had at least a half a century give or take a few years of so." His eyes seemed to grow sad for the first time sense Sabrina had entered the room; there might have actually been some trace of regret as well. But it was gone in a flash, and Sabrina wasn't sure if she really sure if she saw it or not.
"I have at least told you about the day I die at least. And in some detail for that matter. Are you all aware of what you must do?" he asked. They all nodded and so he continued. "Good, that will mean that I shall be return again. Now what are you still doing here, I don't any of you around when I'm dead. Plus, I think that you should all be guarding this place. Just because I'm dying doesn't mean that you all are off duty. They might still come and they might just very well catch you off guard. And then what will you do. You might not survive and then they could very well win, and we don't want that to happen, for they will make sure that I do not continue on."
It was then that a loud explosion was heard coming from the west wing of the house. They all jumped when they heard it and turned towards it.
"I told you so," Mason laughed at them. With one last glance at Mason, their Prophecy, knowing that it may very well be her last of him alive, she turned to rush out of the room and towards the sound. Sabrina didn't look back she knew that the sisters and Ket were right behind her. That Swan and Dimitri would stay behind and guard the Prophecy with their very last breath.
They were after all the Six Warriors, born to protect the Child of Prophecy. They were born to protect it and they would die for it. That was their task in life and nothing would get in their way.
The four warriors of the Saber, of the Knife, of the Bow, and of the Arrow drew their weapons and charged into the battle ahead not knowing that it would be their last. While in the end only the Sword and the Dagger would be left standing to carry out the last order of the Child of Prophecy.
