She thinks she needs me

"She thinks I walk on water She thinks I hung the moon She tells me every mornin' They just don't make men like you…"

Thump. "Hey that hurt! Meanies!" A girl cried out when she was pushed into the desk. The boys just sneered at her.

"Think we care fag? We don't want you by us."

"Hey, jerks, who you calling a fag?" A tall red-haired girl pushed the boys apart and stared down at the girl on the floor. "Her? Losers, why don't you pick on someone your own size? Like me!" The boys ran in a second. The red haired girl turned and held out a hand. "Name's Jen. You?"

The blond took the hand and was pulled up. "My name is Rose. Thank you very much."

"No problem!" Jen grinned at the girl as she started to walk away. When Rose was at the door and Jen still standing against the wall Jen yelled out. "Oh and Rose. You are cute!" Which cause a blush the color of her name to spread across her face before she dashed out.

"She thinks I've got it together She swears I'm as tough as nails But I don't have the heart to tell her She don't know me that well…."

"Hey Jen! How's it going? Sorry I haven't been coming over so much but school and all…" Rose tapered off and looked shyly at the girl across the table.

"Hey, it's ok. It's not like I was forced to drop out. I just didn't want to deal with it any more. So what do you want to eat? I'm hungry." Jen smiled at Rose, hoping the other girl wouldn't get all shy like she had already started to. She hated it.

"Oh...umm…I don't know…Maybe just a shake. I had lunch at school." Rose looked up in time to see the redhead flinch slightly.

"Ok. I think I'll just get a small salad! Yeah, that should be great." Her shoulders dropped for a second.

"She don't know how much I need her She don't know I'd fall apart Without her kiss Without her touch Without her faithful lovin' arms …"

Jen stared at the small figure of the girl running away from the bus stop to her house. She sighed, tears coming to her eyes. She wanted so badly to tell the blond that she loved but didn't want to scare her away. Even though she couldn't kiss her the small brief, light touches were enough. For now, anyways. But maybe not forever.

"She don't know that its all about her She don't know I cant live without her She's my world she's my everything
And she thinks she needs me…."

Rose watched from her hiding spot as her older friend looked wearily at herself in the mirror and whispered words to herself. Rose moved closer to the door and listened closely to Jen. "Rose, I know that most people don't like same sex couples. And I know you've known for a while that I like girls…well. Rose. I don't like you. I love you. More then anything in the whole world. I don't think I would be able to live if you hated me. I understand though if you just want to be friends."

"I love you too Jen!" Rose cried hugging her tightly. The older girl blinked and stared at her before bursting into a smile.

"Sometimes she cries on my shoulder When she's lyin next to me But she don't know that when I hold her That she's really holdin' me Holdin me…"

Rose walked into the house, closing the door lightly, hoping to not wake the woman she knew would be asleep on the couch waiting for her. Sadly she hit the door with her bag and it slammed shut. Within seconds Jen was in the hall way, fear all over her ace. "Are you ok? Did they hurt you today? Do you need anything?"

Rose sighed and pushed Jen upstairs. "No. I'm fine. You should be asleep. Now!" She paused and looked up at her. "No more waiting up for me! You're the one who needs to be up early, not me!"

Jen's shoulders sagged. "I'm sorry. It's just after last month I don't want anything to happen to you again. Now, let's both go to bed."

Rose nodded and followed Jen into the bedroom they shared. After changing into pj's, both women climbed into the bed. Rose buried her face into Jen's shoulder and quiet sobs shook her body. Jen wrapped her arms around her and rocked her, relaxing slightly when Rose put her arms around her too.

"She don't know how much I need her She don't know I'd fall apart Without her kiss Without her touch Without her faithful lovin' arms She don't know that its all about her She don't know I cant live without her
She's my world she's my everything And she thinks she needs me…"

Rose and Jen stared at each other from across the table. Rose giggled as Jen stood up and walked over. Jen was blushing as she kneeled in front of her. "Rose…Will…will you be my wife?" Jen looked up with hopeful green eyes wide with fear.

Rose smiled, her blue eyes dancing with happiness. "Yes! Yes I will!"

"And the funny thing is She thinks she's the lucky one…."

Rose was hanging out with a group of friends when one of them noticed the ring on her finger. She giggled. "Oh my god! Jen asked you!"

Rose smiled and nodded. "I'm the luckiest girl in the whole world." The others giggled and nodded with her.

"She don't know how much I need her She don't know I'd fall apart Without her kiss Without her touch Without her faithful lovin' arms She don't know that its all about her She don't know I cant live without her
She's my world she's my everything And she thinks she needs me…"

Green eyes scanned the crowd as the music played behind them. They met a pair of blue eyes filled with tears and looked over the rest of the face. A smile grew on both faces and they knew the other was remembering the same things they were.

"She thinks I walk on water She thinks I hung the moon." As the music slowed Jen picked up the mic one last time. "I love you, Rose."

The End!
