I wrote this in class for a poetry assignment. I didn't think I could do it... I guess I did. My teacher was suitably impressed. The poem even made it into our literary magazine. Enjoy!
The Three Contradictors
Fire and Water,
Water and Wind,
All so different, and yet all the same.
Fire is the dancer,
Destroying and creating –
A concept in itself.
It can both heal and burn,
Returning nutrients to a dying plain,
But killing and ruining so many lives.
Fire and Water,
Water and Wind,
All so different, and yet all the same.
Water, the warrior, the ninja of nature.
When unprovoked, is calm and at peace.
You could gaze at it and be calm yourself.
Soothing, but when angered, as deadly as fire.
Mile-high waves and quiet lagoons.
Hiding danger and holding beauty at the same time.
Fire and Water,
Water and Wind,
All so different, and yet all the same.
Wind is the musical one,
Whistling along, unceasing.
A relief on a hot day,
A curse in cold winter.
From tornadoes and hurricanes
To a soft gentle breeze.
Fire and Water,
Water and Wind,
All so different, and yet all the same.
Have you ever seen such contradictory elements?
All destroyers; all of them create.
They kill and bring life,
Make beautiful natural formations and break down our walls.
They inspire our art and music
And then eradicate them.
Fire and Water,
Water and Wind,
All so different, and yet all the same.
