A/N: I wrote this yesterday night. It came to my head while I was riding somewhere and I stayed up late just to finish it...just like I'm doing now. Sorry if the ending stinks. I wanted to make it funny...but yeah.
Man, I wish there was a guy out there like Zane...
All of her friends left her in the room, silence ensuing after their discussion. She was just enlightened of a certain fact about a certain someone that made her very angry, hurt, and betrayed. She was also confused as to why he didn't tell her that he was going…leaving. Tears began to accumulate in her eyes, but she hastily brushed them away with her hand. A few moments passed, letting her sort out her jumbled thoughts and emotions. Soon enough, a noise alerted her of another presence, one who stood in the doorway. She didn't have to turn around to know who it was. Waves of anger began to pulsate from her form. She wasn't mad, of course not.
Silence once more. He took a few steps into the room, but stopped at her deadly calm voice.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Tori, I-I can-"
"No, Zane," she interrupted, fury lining her voice. "Answer the question: why didn't you tell me?"
He sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair. He tore his gaze from her back to other objects in the room, using the time to his advantage. Finally, he answered. "I knew you would react this way."
"You knew I would react like this," she replied quickly, "so you decided not to mention a thing to me?"
He grinned sheepishly, now finding his idea foolish. "Yeah."
A heavy sigh permeated the room. He took a couple more steps forward, now just a few small feet away from her. She thought for a moment before asking, "When were you going to tell me, Zane? Were you even going to tell me at all?"
"Tori," he began to explain, "of course I was going to tell you…"
"What, on the first day of school when you weren't there?!" she shrieked, standing to her feet. She turned to him, only to glare at him with a look that could kill.
"I wasn't going to tell you then. I was going to tell you before that."
"Oh, and when would that have been? School is going to start in a week and you managed to stay out of contact with me for over a month. How did everyone else know before I did?" Tears began to blur her vision, but she didn't care. "I thought you cared about me, Zane."
"I do care about you," he said quietly. A small tear slid down her cheek and dripped onto her shirt. More tears followed, but she didn't bother wiping them away.
"If you cared about me like you said you do, then why didn't you tell me?" she all but pleaded.
He murmured her name before walking forward and wrapping his arms around her. She began to sob into his shirt, clinging on to it as if it were a lifeline. He attempted to comfort her by whispering soothing words and stroking her chestnut tresses. After a few minutes, she regained her composure and attempted to put some distance between them, but the tightening of his arms stopped her. She looked up at him in slight confusion.
"Tori, I knew you would take it hard. I knew that you would start crying, but I didn't want to see that. Seeing you cry makes me feel as if a thousand knives are stabbing into my heart. And, it was so hard for me to keep out of touch with you for that long. My parents thought I was sick or something."
A weak chuckle passed her lips. She buried herself in his chest, enjoying how secure she felt in his arms. All too soon, however, reality crashed upon their fairy tale world. Her friends came trampling in, shouting and yelling up a storm. The two paid no heed to the group, until one of Tori's friends said, "Hey, Tori, you heard that Zane actually wasn't leaving, right?"
She tensed in his arms as he sent a frantic look to said friend. He quickly let of Tori and backed away from her, a weak laugh coming from his mouth.
"Tori, I was going to tell-"
"You have three seconds, Zane," was her only warning. A 'manly' squeal erupted from his mouth as he dashed out of the room with Tori hot on his heels.
