A Mother's Heart

The sunshine was seen in the sweet morning's grace

A kiss so loving was placed on his face

The heavenly, misty morning dew

Replaced all the pain that she had once knew

A moment so special to treasure forever

She knew this feeling would leave her never

A day's work, a night's strain had finally gone

So she slept, knowing that her work was done

The tiny new bundle next to her heart

She'd cradle and love 'til death did them part

This emotion so solid, not having to roam

Had easily found a place in her home

A month he could see, six more he could crawl

A year had gone by, he walked big and tall

His voice, laugh, smile, and talk

Measured to him like they did his walk

To grow, and he grew, like all children do

Seemed to her, as something new

School, practice, friends, sports

No time to talk and all other sorts

From crushes, to girls, to dating, marriage

He was too big now to push in a carriage

Her love as a mother came from her core

She remembered him crying, crawling, and more

Those days when she taught him, helping him gain

Those days when she'd cried from proud mother pain

To see he had grown so assuringly good

One life was given, another one took

So now he would see a life lived so mild

Become a life loved, from one little child.
