Disheartened

Chapter 1:

I walked through the narrow alleyway, trying not to dirty my new black boots. The asphalt was damp from a midnight rain. I cursed as I splashed through a puddle that soaked the bottom my ebony billowy skirt. I gazed up at the full moon. It was so beautiful and bright, just like my life had been three hundred years ago. The night I freely gave away my heart was like this. I remember seeing the flash of fangs before my world went dark forever. I remember how happy and free I felt when I realized it was gone for good. I could live my undead life without a heart to hurt me again. It was exactly what I wanted. I stalked my way through the street, knowing all the shortcuts to get back to my house. Debris of cardboard boxes and rotting garbage littered the alley, but I paid it no mind. The streets of New York were always like this. I heard a noise rustling in the distance, my oversensitive hearing catching it. Then silver eyes glowed from behind a cardboard box. A man with dark, if no black, hair stood up in front of me. He stepped aside as I walked past. "Wow, never thought I'd see a vamp for real." His soft clear voice rang. I spun around to face him. I wasn't going to even give him a second glance, but then he spoke again. "Got that right didn't I?" He smiled a bright smirk that lit up his face and I could have sworn the moonlight dazzled about him for a second before flickering away. I rushed him and grabbed him by the throat, pinning him against the brick wall. He coughed. I was known to be brutal…that's how I liked to be. Love and emotion didn't fit in my mind or body anymore. I was literally heartless. The bright man coughed again and I turned my attention back to him. His pulse beat rapidly beneath my fingers. The urge to feed from him grew, like a pounding in my brain. I hadn't fed tonight yet and this was my perfect chance. I removed my death grip from his throat and pulled his wrists above his head, still pinning him effectively to the cold wall. He didn't look scared at all. Not one bit. He smiled goofily. I blinked my surprise.

"What are you grinning about human?" I spat, my fangs coming out of hiding. I flicked my tongue over one if the pointed canines to make sure he noticed them.

"I'm not scared of you. You won't hurt me. You need blood right? Take it." He smiled that contagious grin at me again. His Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed. My attention drew to his muscular neck. Those silver eyes gleamed at me. They held secrets. His hair was black and wet from the rain. It framed his face perfectly.

"I won't hurt you?" I laughed menacingly at him, tightening my hold on his wrists. He actually winced this time. I was pleased with myself.

"You still have a shred of humanity to your being. You are not evil. You like to pretend." I dropped one hand and ensnared my fist in his hair, pulling back his head to expose that delicious throat. I was no human…my heart was gone and I was immortal. How dare he?! I sunk my fangs into his neck rough. I punctured his perfect skin with my fangs and gulped down his blood, being careful still. As I drank I relished in the sheer sweetness of his blood. It was sweet like honey. He moaned in pleasure. I felt his arousal on my leg and gave the puncture marks a final lick before letting him fall to the ground.

"Humanity, yeah…..right. Not in your puny lifespan, mortal." He looked up at me with pain in his eyes.

"You have been wronged, my dear. You wish to regain your heart." I glared at him with red eyes. I was angered by his words, but I had always kept my cool, why were my emotions so strong with this man. I was even feeling lust for him.

"I do-" He slumped to the ground before I got to finish my sentence. He intrigued me and his blood was definitely worth having, so, I heaved him onto my shoulder and walked quickly back to my house.

I slammed the door behind me and threw him onto the couch, not caring about his dirtiness. "What the hell?!" Nicole yelled as she walked into the living room, staring down at the man. "What have you done now? Vicki…I hope you didn't kill him! He's too gorgeous to kill." My sister brushed his black hair out of his face.

"I did not kill him. His blood is too tasty. He will be my personal blood donor." I took off my burgundy trench coat, flinging it onto a chair.

"What?! You can't be serious. How will we keep him here without anyone knowing? Someone will come looking I'm sure of it." She reasoned.

"I found him on the street. Homeless. No one will come for him. Great, now that that's settled. I'm gonna take a hot shower. My stomach is full and I'll be off to bed. Oh, but first." I stalked towards him like a panther. "He needs clothes. Bring me some of your ex's things. I knew we saved them for some reason." I licked my dry lips as I began to undress him.

"Oh dear Christ! Vicki….c'mon. Whoa now….this isn't like you…this is like when you were-" I gave her a glare as I tore off his pants. She looked away quickly. I glanced down at the now naked man.

"No undergarments. Nice…" I gulped as I ogled him.

"Hi, I'm up here." The soft voice called. He was conscious and fully unclothed. I put on my best game face and tried to look nonchalant about ogling him. Nicole muffled a laugh behind me, her back still turned.

"I'm gonna go get those clothes now." She hurried up the stairs.

"Well, now this is awkward." He sat up and I stared at him with no emotion. "You have your emotions under lock and key I see."

"You need to mind your own business, human." My fangs making a reappearance. I had already fed once tonight, why again? Lust. That's why. Crap. I had known him for only two hours and he had already brought out two of my emotions. Double crap. "How did you know I was a vampire?"

"Your aura reeked of blood. No human could smell like that."

"You are not what you seem." I seethed through my fangs.

"As I recall your fangs aren't supposed to come out unless you need to feed."

"Or rip someone's neck out." I added on.

"I don't mind you feeding off of me; in fact it was a very pleasant experience." He laughed and it was melodious, like the singing of angels. "You are a very beautiful vampire too, so that helps." Who the hell did he think he was talking to me like that? I was the most powerful female vampire in the world. Mortals feared me, vampires bowed before me! I rushed at him again, but was pulled back by my sister.

"God, Victoria! What on earth has gotten into you? You're not acting like your normal brooding self and now you're attacking a human who you brought home like a lost puppy. Why don't you rape him while you're at it? To add to your long rap sheet!" Nicole yammered.

"I wouldn't mind the raping. Although you can't rape the willing." Nicole laughed loud and held her stomach.

"What is your name?" She asked. I glared at her again. I didn't want to personalize him. Human or mortal was what I would be calling him.

"Landon." He answered simply. "Now, if I could use your facilities to wash up?" He stood up, stark naked.

"Take these please." Nicole threw the clothes at him. "Upstairs to the left." He turned and walked up those stairs. I watched his gluts move as he ascended. God, was he beautiful. I licked my dry lips again. "Whew…girl….what are gonna do? Can I rape him, please?"

"No. If anyone gets to do that it's me." I was starting to remember my old self. My sarcastic witty sense of humor was coming back. It was something I lost with my heart. Nicole smiled and patted my shoulder.

"Finder's keepers and all that jazz right?" She looked at me. "Okay, I know how mad you get when I say things like this, but don't, k?"

"What is it dear sister of mine?" I rubbed my temples with my index fingers on either side, trying to soothe the newly forming headache.

"I think you're coming back to me." She sniffled. "After so long." Tears welled up in her eyes and she hugged me. I fought the urge to throw her aside, but remembered she was my twin, my flesh and blood; the one who wanted to be turned into a vampire because I was. She let me go and wiped the tears away. "Sorry."

"No need to be sorry, Nicki." Her eyes widened in shock at my words. "What?"

"You….you called me Nicki."

"Yeah, so?"

"You haven't called me that in…well since you…became a vampire." Nicole twiddled with her nightgown. I realized what she was saying. I closed my eyes and sighed. A faint voice brushed my mind.

"You will….receive….your heart….back…..soon." I looked around the room and cursed.

"I don't want it back, you fucker!"
