Under My Fingernails

Chocolate under my fingernails
Stuck, but I lick them clean.
Paint them again with nail polish,
And restore them their sheen.

Mud under my fingernails
From playing too long outside.
But, it's all right because I can
Scrap them clean once the mud is dried.

Blood under my fingernails
No way of getting them out.
The pearl white of my hands tainted.
All this guilt, I can do without.
