This just came off of the top of my head. I just sat down and thought of the first sentence. After that I wouldn't let me stop, I just typed. I don't know if this is going to be a story, or a one-shot.
The One I Loved
It's strange trying to find your self in a world where you don't exist. How are you to do that? How can you fit in? You don't. It's that simple. Being what I am, knowing what I know, you are forced to live how you wish you did not.
My name's Josh. A fairly normal name to most, except that it has changed many times. From 9000B.C. to 1600A.D. I didn't even have a name; in the 1700's it was Phillip. In 1800 it was Edward. 1900, it was Joshua. Now it's just plain Josh. My last name? I don't have one; I never get close enough to anyone to need one. I never go anywhere or get anything that would need one. Not anymore.
You see my kind and I, yes I am not alone, were here since the beginning of the creation of the Earth. Though today's scientists have it quite wrong. The earth was created in 9000B.C.. I was there. We were the first "humans" to ever be alive. We were here before any animal was here. Scientists will tell you that you came from little invisible bugs. That is not true. You came from us. We don't really have a name, we never really needed one, but you humans have given us one. Vampires.
Now, we are not like the vampires of your fables. We do not prey on people most of the time. We do not burn in the sun. We will die if you put a stake through our heart, but we will also die if you stab us, shoot us, and another thing that kills humans. We do not, however, die of natural things. We have to be killed.
Holy water does not affect us. Neither do crosses. We do not have to wait to enter a house until we are invited, and we do not sleep in coffins.
We are naturally nocturnal, and most of us do go to church. We have been here for a long time, and we know things that humans do not. We go to church but none are correct. Humans have perverted the ways, they do not know the truth, but we still go to try to keep people from becoming suspicious of us.
Sun hurts our eyes, I will admit. Our irises cannot contract as much as human eyes can. Our eyes were made for the dark of night. We have to wear sunglasses from nine am to six pm if we want to go out into the regular world. Because of this many of us have moved to cloudy parts of the world. Michigan and Washington are very popular places for us to live in the U.S.
We also do not age as fast as you. I being older than I would care to think, am still told by mortals that I look 20 years old.
Another thing that sets us apart from mortals is that we do not survive on oxygen. Our bodies need carbon dioxide. We are the perfect counterparts to humans. They give us what we need, and we give them what they need.
The only problem with this is two things⦠One, humans fear us, and many times sent hunting parties after us. Many times they killed innocent people, but some were of my kind. The other problem? We cannot lose very much blood before we are in trouble. We cannot survive with even one and a half pints of blood gone. So we cannot give it to each other. The only way is to take it from humans.
Human blood is different from our blood though. It works off of Oxygen not Carbon Dioxide. Our bodies have to transform it, but that takes time. Our bodies naturally expel things that should not be there, including human's blood so we have to take three times more blood then we lost to make up for the blood that will be thrown out of us.
It will come out of our pores. Dripping out of us. We will throw it up. Gashes will appear all over our bodies trying to get rid of it.
Because of this, to live we often out of desperation become desperate and forget how fragile humans are. We take too much, if not all from them, killing them. Often guilt becomes so heavy that we wish to kill ourselves. I do not understand that though. If you killed a human to live, then killing yourself will just make their death go to waste.
I will live; I will not let her death go to waste. She gave herself to me, trusting me, trying to save my life. I failed her. I killed her. I will live for her, breath for her, until the day when the world shall end, and I will be taken to her. The human girl. The one I loved.
