"What were you thinking? That place is a crime scene!" Alexis yelled as he paced back and forth.

Allusion thought it was absolutely adorable how Alexis could lecture him about danger while dressed in nothing but a teddy-bear night shirt ( Allusion suspected that it was something Candy had brought for his fashion-challenged friend) and shorts.

"Ex-crime scene, Alexy" Allusion pointed out. The finger Alexis pointed in his direction looked more like a weapon.

"That is not the point!' Alexis said with his hands on his hips. "The point is-"

Allusion yawned and tuned out the rest of Alexis's rant. 'I should have never said anything' he thought to himself as he set his feet up on Alexis's coffee table. He had come here to show Alexis the doll, but now he was not sure if Alexis would stop ranting long enough for him to show the damn thing off. Then again, maybe it would be better if Alexis did not see the doll? Just how would someone react to seeing a doll that looked almost identical to them?

"Wow, you really made him mad," Candy whispered into his ear.

He glanced over at the seventeen year old, taking in the tube top and short skirt she wore. Candy was his type of woman, she was sexy, smart, and a had a good fashion sense; but she was Alexis's friend, and that made her off limits. And for the sake of morals, he reminded himself that she was underage. What kind of guy would he look like trying to date a seventeen year old girl?

"Yeah, I guess I did," Allusion whispered back with a grin on his face. "Who would have thought he would care this much about my wellbeing?"

The two shared a quiet chuckle that died the moment Alexis focused his attention on them. Their dark haired friend opened his mouth to say something, then quickly closed it as he turned his attention to the duffel bag that was on the couch next to Allusion.

"What's in there?" Alexis asked, his early anger now forgotten as curiosity took hold of the reigns.

"Huh? Oh this?" Allusion mumbled as he set the small duffel bag in his lap and pulled the zipper open. "This is what I came here to show you."

Allusion missed the look on Alexis's face as he pulled out the mocha-colored doll, but Candy saw it clear as day. She watched as her best friend's eyes became the size of dinner plates and he turned pale. When the man began to shake she stood up and rushed to his side.

"Alexis? What's wrong?" Candy asked as she shook the man lightly. When she got no answer she shook him a little harder.

"Where did you get that?" Alexis demanded, his face a look of pure rage as he shoved Candy away from him.

Allusion looked at Alexis, then looked at the doll, a look of confusion clear on his face. "What the hell's wrong with you?"

"I want to know where the fuck you got that?!"

Allusion and Candy shared a look of concern. Alexis never cursed, even when the man was angry beyond belief. Setting the doll down on the couch, Allusion slowly rose to his feet and took a cautious step forward. He had seen Alexis in this kind of state before and he knew that the situation could only take a turn for the worse.

"Calm down Alexis" Allusion said with his hands up in a gesture of peace. "How about we go in the bedroom-"

"No! Not until you tell me where you got that!" Alexis yelled as he pointed at the doll.

Allusion looked over at the doll, then looked back at Alexis. 'Guess that answers my previous question,' Allusion though to himself. So was Alexis freaking out because the doll resembled him, or was Alexis freaking out for some other reason, was now the six-million dollar question.

"Look, you're starting to worry Candy," Allusion said as he nodded his head towards Candy. Judging from the worried look on her face this was probably the first time she had seen Alexis freak out like this. "So just calm down okay?" He gestured towards the doll. "I found that thing at the crime scene. That's what I came over here for."

For a second it looked like that answer satisfied Alexis, but then the man shook his head violently.

"You're lying! Mama would never leave that there" Alexis said, as he balled his hands into fist.

Allusion was sure he had never been this confused in his entire life. Just what the hell was Alexis talking about? While Alexis continued to mumble to himself Allusion stepped forward and grabbed him by the wrist. As expected, this move sent Alexis spiraling into the "Oh shit this is bad" portion of his freak out.

"Calm down Alexis!" Allusion yelled as he tried to keep a firm grip on Alexis's wrist. It was not as easy as he thought it would be. 'Little bastard. I forgot how strong he is' Allusion thought as he struggled to get Alexis under control.

"No! Let go of me! Let go!" Alexis continued to yell.

With Alexis's next door neighbor being a nosy old hag with too much time on her hands, Allusion knew it would not be long before the lady called the cops to report the noise. If it was any cop on the force he knew he would be able to talk his way out of it. However, if Endaris showed up (which he would most likely do if someone reported to him that the trouble was coming from Alexis's place) then it would take more than a simple bribe.

Allusion shook Alexis hard once, then again when the man refused to stop digging those damn nails of his into his hand. Since dealing with a freaked out Alexis was not a one man job, Allusion hoped to enlist Candy in his campaign.

Only to find that she was edging her way towards the door.

The look on her face was one Allusion had never seen before. It was not fear, but she wasn't exactly thrilled with the current situation either.

"Hey! Don't-" Allusion swore out loud as Candy bolted, slamming the door shut behind her. "Don't leave me to deal with this alone…"

It came out like a whine and Allusion was glad that no one was around to hear it. With a sigh he released Alexis, who nearly ran to the other side of the room. The man was muttering under his breath about something but Allusion was too far away to make out what Alexis was saying.

"Fucking doll," Allusion muttered under his breath as he grabbed it by the hair. From across the room Alexis made a soft whining sound. He ignored it as he stuffed the doll back into the duffel bag.

Allusion hoped that putting the doll away would calm Alexis down. It didn't. The man stood with his back pressed against the wall, his eyes still focused on the spot where the doll had been. Allusion was curious about why a simple doll would freak Alexis out but he knew now was not the time to ask.

"You scared Candy off," Allusion said, forcing a smile on his face. It wouldn't help to show that he was irritated beyond belief. "There are better ways to get the two of us alone. All you had to do was ask."

The look of annoyance on Alexis's face was a lot better than the previous deer-caught-in-headlights one.

"Mama wouldn't leave that there. It's special," Alexis said as he pressed his hand against his face. His shoulders shook as he wrapped his other arm around himself. "Mama promised."

Allusion slowly walked towards his friends. "You're getting things mixed up again Alexis. That's not one of your mom's dolls. She kept all hers locked up, remember?"

Like a person confronting a frightened, but dangerous animal, Allusion made sure not to make any sudden movements. He kept his hands were Alexis could see them, and then reached forward to rub the top of the man's head, like a person might do a dog.

"That's… That's not Mama's?" Alexis asked, though the question seemed directed at himself, rather than Allusion.

"No, it's not hers," Allusion replied with a smile on his face. He was sure there were more than a dozen people that would be surprised to see him with something other than a smirk or a grin on his face. "It really looks like one of hers, doesn't it? I can see how you got confused."

Allusion sighed softly as he continued to pet his friend's head. He should have known Alexis would react this way. 'But then, why the hell didn't he react that way to the other one?' Allusion thought. Or maybe he had? Alexis had stopped telling him when he had episodes like this since he started messing around with the police chief. Alexis had come up with some bullshit excuse about how he wanted Endaris to be the one he confined in. It had pissed Allusion off to the point where he had thought about cutting off all ties with the guy. They were supposed to be best friends after all.

"But, it looks just like Mama's," Alexis mumbled as he slumped back against the wall. "It looks just like Alexis."

Something in Allusion snapped, he wasn't sure what it was, but he was pretty sure it was his mind. It had to be. Why else would his blood suddenly turn cold like this? The tips of his fingers became numb and he could no longer hear Alexis mumble. All he could hear, all he could see, was that memory that he had tried so hard to forget.

"You shouldn't have done that."

A nineteen year old Allusion shrugged his shoulders as he flopped onto his best friend's bed. The sheets were a little girly, but the bed was soft and it made his bruised beaten up body feel good.

"What do I care? That's what he gets for fucking with you," Allusion said as he laid back on the bed.

When Alexis crawled into bed next to him he sat up and looked over at him. There was something weird about Alexis. The guy was too girly, he never fought back when the kids in the neighborhood picked on him, and there was something extremely weird going on between the guy and his mom. Still, Allusion considered him a friend. No, even more than that, Alexis was like a little brother to him.

"You shouldn't curse," Alexis said as he laid on his side.

Allusion rolled his eyes and laid back down. "You should curse more."

"Mama says it isn't good to curse," Alexis replied.

Allusion just rolled his eyes again and stared up at the ceiling.

Why did he always have to come here when he wanted to see Alexis? That woman, Alexis's mother, she never allowed him to do anything. In the past, when he had bothered to ask, she would just say that Alexis did not want to go outside, but Allusion knew that was a lie. Whenever Alexis's dad was in town the kid would spend as much time outside as he possibly could.

"Hey, Alexis, when your dad is gone…" Allusion paused as he tried to think of a way to ask. "Your mom doesn't do anything weird, does she?"

The look of fear that crossed Alexis's face confirmed his suspicions

"I-I don't know what you're getting at" Alexis said, his voice wavering as he spoke. " Mama loves me, she doesn't do anything bad."

"Then why don't you ever come outside? Why the hell you wear those clothes? You don't wear them when your dad is around" Allusion said as he sat up.

The clothes Allusion referred to was a very feminine top-and-jumper skirt set. Alexis had begged his mother not to make him wear them to school, but the woman had violently insisted. It was because of him that Allusion had gotten beat up because the older boy had jumped in to defend him against some older guy that was bothering him about his clothes.

"Mama likes when I wear these clothes," Alexis said, his excuse sound just as pitiful to his own ears as he was sure it did to Allusion.

" You're a boy! You aren't supposed to wear girl clothes" Allusion all but yelled.

"Says who? You?" Alexis shot back as he climbed out of bed.

Why did Allusion have to bring this up now? Wasn't it enough that the kids at school picked on him? Wasn't it enough that his mother only loved him when he was dressed like this?

"You're just like them! You think I'm a faggot, don't you?" Alexis yelled, pointing an accusatory finger at Allusion. "Well, go ahead! Be just like that! You gonna start hitting me too? Or maybe you'll do worse. You'll make me into a girl just like-"

Allusion got out of bed and grabbed him by the shoulders. The teenager was pissed and it showed on his face as he shook Alexis hard enough to make the boy's teeth rattle.

"Don't fucking talk to me like I'm one of them!" Allusion hissed as he dug his fingers into the soft flesh of Alexis's arm. "If this is how you really wanted to dress I wouldn't care. But I know it's not. It's cause of your mom, isn't it? It's sick Alexy! Why can't you see that?"

"You just don't want a queer for a friend," Alexis muttered.

Before Allusion could open his mouth to speak Alexis lunged forward and pressed his lips against the older boy's mouth. When Allusion's mouth opened in shock Alexis took that opportunity to slip his tongue inside. For a moment he was happy. Then the next thing he knew he felt the edge of the desk dig into his back as Allusion violently pushed him away.

"See? I'm a queer. It isn't Mama's doing" Alexis said as he wiped the back of his mouth with his hand. There were spots of blood from where Allusion had bit his lower lip. "This is how I wanna dress."

Allusion watched his friend, torn between his emotions. He wanted to walk over and punch Alexis in the face until that smug look was gone. On the other hand, he felt terrible for his friend. Allusion instead choose to be indifferent. What use was there trying to help someone that did not want to be helped? Maybe when Alexis's father came back he could talk to the man.

He turned and headed towards the door with every intent to leave and never come back. Allusion knew he did not need or want a friend like Alexis. Or else he would end up going crazy too. Just as he was about to leave Alexis's bedroom he heard a soft whimpering sound, like that of a puppy that was expecting a hit.

"Oh no…" he heard Alexis mumbled. "No. No. No."

He turned to find Alexis kneeling on the floor next to something. Some of the items on the desk had fallen and Allusion assumed that was what Alexis was kneeling next to. When the younger boy began to sob Allusion's little brother complex kicked in and he rushed over to his friend's side.

'What's wrong?" Allusion asked as he touched Alexis's shoulder.

"Alexis… Alexis broke," Alexis said in a hushed whisper.

For a minute Allusion was lost in confusion, and thought that the boy had finally lost his mind, but then he saw the doll lying on the floor. Since Alexis did not have a carpet in his room the doll's fragile porcelain skin had been cracked by the hard wood floor. A huge crack went down the side of the doll's face, and judging from the way the dress was indented, the body had probably been smashed as well.

"Alexis is Mama's favorite. Mama is gonna be mad," Alexis wailed as he lifted the doll up. The broken pieces of the doll's fell from beneath the doll's velvet dress like fallen stars.

Unsure of what to do, Allusion tried to calm his friend down. "It'll be alright. I'll just tell her it was my fault. She won't get that mad."

Despite his words, Allusion knew that she would get more than just mad. The woman would be furious. There was nothing Alexis's mother loved more than her dolls, not even Alexis.

"It won't matter to Mama" Alexis said as he shook his head. The boy dropped the doll and cupped himself between his legs. "It hurts! It hurts!" Allusion's eyes began to widen as the boy's stockings began to turn red with blood.

The house door opened and slammed shut. At this point, Allusion would have been happy if it were the devil himself walking through the door. At least deals could be made with the devil.

Alexis's mother, on the other hand, was very different from the devil.

"What the hell are you doing in my house?" Alexis's mother asked as she eyed her son's friend with obvious contempt.

Allusion looked first at the woman, and then looked at the large man standing behind her. Just who the hell was that guy? It sure as hell was not Alexis's father.

"Something's wrong with Alexis! He-" Allusion's voice died down as the woman walked past him and headed towards Alexis's bedroom.

He watched her disappear down the hall and started to follow when her heard the woman's voice again.

"You filthy child! What the hell have you done to the clothes I brought you?"

The sound of a hand striking against flesh resounded through the house so loudly that Allusion might as well have been in the room with them.

"What was he doing here? How many times have I told you not to bring him into my house? You're nothing but a whore."

Allusion could hear Alexis's pain filled sobs, but he was too afraid to move.

"My doll! Oh you worthless bitch! My Alexis! You broke my Alexis! You pitiful worthless bitch!"

Allusion was not sure if it was Alexis that screamed or the woman. All he knew was that he turned around and fled from the house. It was the last time he ever came back to that house again.

Allusion shuddered as his mind turned off the film reel in his head. As he tried to deal with the long forgotten memory, he vaguely heard the door open. He turned, expecting to see Candy, but the woman standing in the door way was not Candy.

"What are you doing to my son?" Alexis's mother asked as she stepped into the apartment.

Allusion opened his mouth to speak, but found himself speechless. Melissa Cromwell was the only woman alive that Allusion acted this way around. There was just something about the woman that scared the living hell out of him.

"You were always awfully close to him," Melissa said as she closed the door behind her. "I still can't understand why my husband never thought it was strange for a boy your age to be hanging around someone so young. Alexis was just a little boy. A disgusting little boy…"

Alexis tensed, and when the man hung his head in shame Allusion felt rage began to boil inside of him. Just what right did Melissa have to say those things? Now he could remember. All the times he had tried to visit Alexis only to have her slam the door in his face. The way Alexis would wear girl clothing and then act like it was not his mother's doing.

"Mama… Allusion was just about to go," Alexis said, his voice devoid of the man's usual spark.

Since there was no need point in restraining him any longer, Allusion released him. "You sure you don't want me to stay?"

When Alexis shook his head Allusion was not surprised. Like Sion said, Alexis was a mama's boy, but in Alexis's case it went further than that. The mother-son bond between those two was sick and twisted, just like Melissa herself. Allusion knew he was not alone in feeling that way. Maria had also noticed it.

"Fine," Allusion muttered as he walked towards the door. "I'll leave the doll here with you. Maybe you can give it to your mama." The last part was said with a sarcastic snarl.

He glared at the woman as he passed her and received nothing but an icy smug look in return. It was the first time in his life that he had ever wanted to punch a woman.

Author's Note: Finally an update! I bet everyone thought I had abandoned this story. Well, guess that's kind of true. The next update will be very soon. I just noticed that Alexis and Allusion are 5 years apart.
