A warning about this chapter: The POVs are all messed up because I accidentally wrote one part in third person, so…yeah.

CHAPTER 8 – Tori

It has been three months since I got pregnant. I don't think I've said one word to my mother since the little confession and I hate it. I know it's not as bad as it could be; she could have thrown me out of the house. She could have told my dad. He obviously doesn't know, but I'm not surprised. They haven't been speaking either, and he's been sleeping on the couch. My family is falling apart, and I'm about to add another member to it. Or not. I don't know. The fact that I'm pregnant is already starting to show. Not only am I gaining weight like crazy, but I'm also starting to get extremely moody, even with Todd. He's starting to wonder what's up with me, if I hate him or something, and for some reason I tell him. Everything. I start from the beginning, just meeting Brian. From there I skip ahead quite quickly, finally getting to his mother's funeral, and more importantly what happened that night. I get all stuttery when it comes to explaining that we actually "did it," so I mumble through it before spitting out the dreaded words: "I'm pregnant." I've said it quite a few times considering how many times I thought I'd ever have to say it (zero), and I'm starting to gain a bit of confidence with my words (I can actually look him in the eyes as I say it). That is, until I see his expression: one of disgust.

"You're pregnant?" He asks this as though I didn't just tell him.

I nod nervously.

He gets up from his seat, holding his hands up as if making sure not to become contaminated. "Whoa, whoa, I did not sign up for this."

I cock my head in confusion, trying to smile, trying to make light the fact that I just told him the biggest secret I have. "What are you talking about?"

"I didn't start hanging out with you so I could aid the school slut to her redemption, or whatever it is you want from me."

I shake my head, hands trembling. "I am not a slut."

"Then why am I even hanging out with you?"

I cock my head again, this time to the other side, this time thoroughly confused, not just denying the obvious. "Wait, what are you talking about?"

He laughs cruelly. "What, you thought I was hanging out with you so that we could just talk and share our feelings?"

"Well…kind of."

"Listen, I don't know this Brian guy, but let me tell you something; he wasn't hanging out just to talk and be friends, and that's obvious from the story you just told. What makes you—"

"You're wrong," I say, and without waiting for a response, I get up from the cold log in the woods, and walk back to my house.

School has never been my favorite place, but it's even worse now. As I walk down the hall I hear coughs that sound suspiciously like the word "slut". I do my best to ignore them, but it's kind of hard when they dig their elbows into me. Some of the more imaginative people throw condoms at me. Their friends like to comment, "It's too late for that." I have very creative classmates. There are some diehard Christian types I know that pass down hall give me a look that tells me they're begging to "save" me. My teachers are clueless, and thank god for that. They're just itching to report bad news to my parents.

I flip through my iPod, skipping every song that doesn't remind me of Tori. I don't know why but I'm in a very anti-not-Tori mood. Not the most intelligent sentence I've ever uttered, but it's the best way to describe it. You're So Damn Hot by OK Go begins to play. I never actually listened to that song with her, but that's not to say I'm not reminded of her when I listen to it.

My stepmother sticks her head in my room. "Brian, sweetie, your dad's gonna be in Maine for a few more days."

I rip the headphones out of my ears. "He's in Maine? What's he doing in Maine?"

"Talking to your friend's parents. Oh," she touched her hand to her head. "I mean, his business trip. Dinner will be here in 10 minutes." And she ducks back out of my room.

I lean back on my bed. Tori's coming. That's good. My dad needed to stay longer…that could be bad. The longer he stays means the more trouble he has getting her to come. She doesn't want to see me?

I get up and run into the kitchen. "Why is dad taking so long?"

"Oh…you know business."

I sigh, annoyed. "I know he's talking to Tori's parents. I just want to know why it's taking him so long."

"He said something about her mom not wanting her to go."

"She knows?"

She furrowed her eyebrows. "Knows what?"

"Um…nothing. Nothing. I have to go…do homework. Bye." I turn around ignoring what she says to me, and lock my door. I sit down at my computer and open up mail. I only really have one email address in my address book (Emily doesn't like computers) so I just hit the down arrow and her name comes up right away. I type frantically "Does your mom know about…are you OK? Email me back," and hit send.

Third Person POV

Tori walked through the unlocked door of Emily's house, which was becoming more common as Emily's house was feeling more like a second home. The older girl appeared in the foyer, yogurt cup in hand, without needing to be summoned.

"What's up?" she asked licking her spoon.

"I hate all guys," Tori proclaimed, collapsing on the couch.

"Details, or I can't join in."

Tori sighed. "Well there's your brother—no offence."

"None taken."

"And then I met this guy. This totally nice guy. And I had the idiocy to tell him about…Tori Jr.. I then found out, in one sitting mind you, that he A, only wanted to get in my pants and B, he thinks I am total slut for being pregnant. If that's not hypocrisy, then I don't know what is."

"Hypocrisy and idiocracy. But speaking of Tori Jr., I think it's time you saw her. Or him."

Tori cringed. "I don't know, I might get attached."

"Are you actually planning on getting an abortion?"

Tori was quiet, almost disappointed that Emily knew her so well. "Let's go," she finally said, after complaining in her head.

The car ride to the hospital was long and awkward thanks to the conversation Emily decided to have. "So, when's the last time you spoke to Brian?"

"A few weeks ago," Tori replied, staring straight ahead. "Didn't really go so well."

Emily nodded her head slightly. "And um, when did you two ever…you know, sleep together? I always thought you were on a friends-only basis."

"We were. But the night before he left…the night of your mother's funeral." She shook her head, as if shaking away the memory. "It was once, it was a farewell. It wasn't meant to end up like this."

"It never is."

"Pregnant? You actually got someone pregnant?" A stream of rough laughter flowed through the kitchen. "Was she awake?" The laughter erupted with a greater strength this time. I have no idea why I talk to them. I guess it helps to tell someone…and it's obvious they're not going to say anything.

"Yes, she was awake. It was the day before I left to come here."

"Oh, so it was a no commitment thing."

I laugh spitefully. "Well there's obviously some commitment for her. She's pregnant, remember?"

They shrug, "Why doesn't she just get rid of it?"

"Because she's a vegetarian, OK?" I say a little louder than intended. "She doesn't…do that." It occurs to me that I never asked her if she's keeping it. I haven't really had the opportunity to do it anyway.

"How long ago was that?" the biggest guy, Joey asks. "Cause you need to get laid." Another wave of laughter erupts as Joey hi-fives the fellow cooks.

"Wow…you guys are one of a kind."

"You won't find a group like us anywhere else, kid.

"Two? It would have been hard enough with one, but twins? Twin boys I can't possibly do this…"

Emily sighs, putting a hand on my shoulder. "Maybe it's time you see Brian."

"No," I say simply. "I don't want him to have anything to do with this."

"OK, let me rephrase that. My dad flew here to make plans with your dad, and your staying with him during Spring Break."

"What? Why? I'm not going."

"Calm down, yes you are."

I laugh, "No, I'm not. I won't." Emily gives me one disdainful stare. Only one. "OK, I'll go."

She smiles and turns to the doctor that's been eavesdropping the whole time. "Thank you so much, I think we're done."

"Oh," she says, realizing she has just entered the conversation she's been listening in on. "OK. Let me, uh, just print the image for you…um. Yes, so, stay healthy. Don't smoke or drink. Let me get those…" she exits the room with large, quick strides.

Emily turns to me smirking. "Caught her off guard."

"That is so mean," I say, but that doesn't stop a huge smile from forming on my face.

"She was the one listening to our private conversation." She examines me. "You know, for being so mean to me, you're awfully concerned about being a tad rude to meddling doctors who make way more money than you, particularly because you don't make any money."

"I know," I say, whining a bit. "But I was only awful to you because…jezus, I don't even know why. Sorry?"

She snorts, no doubt about to come back with some witty comment that somehow manages to show that she holds no bitter feelings (like she does so often), when the nosy doctor comes in.

"Right, here are your things," she hands me a folder of papers, "come back if you have any problems, or in a month or two. Just to see the progress. Oh, I almost forgot," she giggled nervously, "are you experiencing any problems so far?"

I blush and nervously sputter, "W—I, um, I'm having, well…hot flashes."

"Ah, yes. You're estrogen levels are a bit high, common with pregnancy, especially for someone your age when your hormones are not yet 100 steady. It will cause some hot flashes, but it's nothing to worry about. If they get to frequent I would suggest doing some light exercise and maybe some meditation, something to calm you, you know?"

"Right," I say. The stupid website already told me that.

See, I got it to you sooner :D Please review.
