I lit the mounted candle, placing the open topped glass over it. The glass intensified the light, filling the study with sufficient light. I sat down at my desk, pulling out the worksheet I had gotten at school. It was labeled 'Mythological studies: Rome VII'.
I quickly scribbled 'Kyle Aston' under the name section, 9/14/2003 in the date. I took a look at the worksheet. Short, simple. Good. I read the first question.
1. Who were the Angelic Twins?
Angelic twins... Sephero and... Cedei!
2. Who reigned over what?
Sephero was the angel of Magistry, and Cedei was the angel of Machinistry.
3. What were the two groups that formed in the underground?
Sephero's Disciples and Cedei's Children.
4. Who was caught?
Cedei's children
5. Why were both groups underground?
Both studies were forbidden.
I looked at the sheet. Done already? I sighed, slipping it into my book bag.
"Minimus."
The bag quivered. It's intricate threads began to move, shimmering with magic. The bag began to collapse on itself, getting smaller and smaller until it became the size of a pebble. It was unidentifiable, nobody would guess it was a book bag. I pulled two threads out, tying them behind my neck. My bag had gone from book bag to necklace. I dropped it into my shirt, leaving the study.
Everybody took Technology and Science to be one and the same, and Magic was one on it's own. But the truth was different. Technology and Magic were both science, just different branches.
"Silentium."
My footsteps made no noise as I walked out of the study, down the stairs, and out the door. I had finished my homework, so I had no guilt in slipping on a cloak and sneaking out to go to a party.
Well, it wasn't just any party- it was Arian's party, the hottest human girl in school (the humans are the only ones you can be sure about today). And I had been invited!
I untied my horse. He was a good horse, I had named him Volo, Latin for speed. I was young when I named him that, not realizing that that was also the incantation for speed, so I had to call him Vol or he'd take off.
I mounted myself on his back, raising my cloak's hood and beginning to ride.
The horse's feet made an incredibly loud clacking noise on the wet cobblestone street. I loved riding horseback. The feeling of the wind, watching bystanders and buildings shoot by. It was great.
Vol began to slow down.
"Whoa! Hey!"
He came to a quick stop, nearly losing his balance on the wet stone with a whinny. I looked ahead to find a hooded man in the intersection.
"Good eye, Vol!" I said, dismounting and patting him. "Hey! You! What are ya thinkin, standing in the middle of an Intersection! Are you dumb as an ogre?"
The person ignored me. "Rude as one too," I muttered, drawing my horse to the side so I could continue.
As I began to mount, the ground underneath him lit up. The light formed lines, the lines forming circles, triangles, and Latin words. That's a Spellbinding Circle!
I sat silently on my horse, waiting to see what it would do.
The lights faded, the man still in the same spot he had been in the whole time.
"Too bad, mate. Looked like you were doin somethin big, too," I said, easing my nervous horse around the man. Vol began to speed up without command, a good choice on his part. As he began to speed up, I heard the stones that formed the street being thrown around behind me, followed by unbelievably loud thumping noises.
I turned around to see something unlike anything I had seen before- a great stone behemoth, shaped like a man, heading straight for me.
