Chapter Three
Today was the day. The day that history would either be saved, or altered forever. Clintzilla and his gang were already on their way to the palace. Bristyn had stayed out in the stables after everyone had left. Lee had snuck in with her brother earlier that day, and was waiting in the kitchen. Everyone was restless, and this just succeeded in making them very jumpy. This was going to be one heck of a night.
…
Princess Sari walked into the ballroom, the ends of her dress dragging behind her. She looked much prettier then she felt. She was having another bad hair day, her makeup lady never got around to helping her with her makeup, so she had done it herself, and then, she hadn't been able to find her shiny gold dress to wear, so she had to settle for the silver one. Today was just not her day!
Sari looked at the other guests. They were the exact same people who had come to the last ball. Why didn't her parents ever invite different people? Sari didn't know anyone here! Maybe it was because no one ever talked to her.
At least it was time to eat. Sari took a seat next to her mother, and waited to be served. Suddenly, the large, double doors burst open, and ten people, all dressed in black, carrying some weird things that looked like weapons came running in.
The royal guards tried to stop the intruders, but the people just extended their weapons, and a loud noise was heard. The next second, Sari saw blood on the guard's face. He was dead!
Sari was terrified now. She tried running the exit behind her, but it was blocked! How was she going to get out!?
…
When Lee heard the screams, she left the kitchen, and began running up the stairs, but suddenly, she ran into two other people, and the three of them went tumbling down the stone stairs.
They all lay dazed on the kitchen floor for a few minutes, trying to recover from their hard fall.
"Who did I just run into?" Lee finally asked, still lying on the floor. She was in to much pain to actually sit up to see who else had suffered falling.
"Me," someone said. Lee recognized it as her brother, Isaccian's, voice.
"And me." This time, it was Bristyn who was speaking.
Lee almost laughed. It was just too funny that they had all come at the same time, and probably, for the same purpose.
"What are you guys doing here?" Bristyn asked.
Isaccian spoke first. "I heard that some people were going to try to kill the royal family tonight."
"Same here," Lee said.
"Well," Bristyn said. "Since we're all here, let's team up. Do we all have weapons?" Bristyn sat up, and inspected his pistol.
"I got my knife," Lee said, holding it up for the other two to see.
Isaccian showed the others his sword, and when they were all sure that they were as prepared as they were going to get, they all, carefully, made their way back up the stairs, and on to the ballroom.
…
Ashki watched as people left and right were killed. This wasn't exactly what she'd had in mind for taking over the kingdom. Too many unnecessary deaths were taking place. She couldn't let this happen.
Ashki knew that switching sides at a moment like this was sort of weird, but it was the only thing that she could think of doing right now. Ashki looked around for the princess. Not so that she could kill her. This time, she was looking so she could protect her.
…
Bristyn, Isaccian and Lee finally made it to where the attack was taking place. There was so much going on, that at first, all they could do was stare at everything, wondering what they should do.
Lee finally spoke. "Uh, I'll find the Queen, and keep her safe. Bristyn, you find the king, and Issie, I know you've always wanted to impress Princess Sari, so why don't you do that, and keep her safe?"
"Okay," Isaccian said. "Let's do this!"
Leaving the two guys to do their jobs, Lee ran right into the sea of chaos that, only half an hour ago, had been a civilized ball. At first, Lee couldn't see anyone except for some weird people wearing black, and some guards, but then, she finally saw the Queen. The only problem was he was back all the way on the other side of the room!
"Just my luck!" Lee mumbled angrily.
Suddenly, two girls around her age appeared out of nowhere, right in front of the king!
…
"AH!" Catkae jumped back to avoid getting hit by someone's sword that was being swung around dangerously.
"Good job, Kae!" Kathy said sarcastically. "You've brought us right in the middle of a battle!"
Catkae looked around, trying to find out what was going on. Suddenly, she saw someone that was just too easy to recognize. It was Clint Crow.
"Excuse me, Kathy," Catkae said, narrowing her eyes. "I have a bandit to catch."
Kathy watched her friend leave her side, and make her way toward her enemy. Suddenly, Kathy heard someone say behind her, "Hey, are you going to kill me?"
Kathy turned around to face an oldish looking man with gray hair, and a golden crown. It was the king of the village she and Catkae had come to save!
"Kill you? Why would I do that?" Kathy asked.
The King fixed her with a puzzled stare. "Well, you look like the others who are attacking us, so I just assumed…"
"Don't assume," Kathy said. "We're here to save you."
Getting out her pistol, Kathy began shooting at the people in Clint's group. There weren't a lot of them left. Only two or three. With any luck they'd get out of this sooner then she'd hoped!
…
Sari looked at Isaccian in a way she'd never looked at him before. He had just kept one of the intruders from killing her. He was such a brave person! How did he even know that she had needed his help?
Sari nervously brushed her hair behind her ears. "Um, I want to thank you for saving me."
Isaccian couldn't help but smile. Did this mean that Sari may actually like him? Did this mean that all his dreams were not as far away as he'd always thought? "Hey, it was an honor," Isaccian said, taking Sari's hand in his.
…
Bristyn never needed to save the king. Some other girl who looked strangely familiar had saved him. He also noticed that someone had taken care of capturing Clintzilla. Well, his work was done here…
"Bristyn!"
Bristyn turned around to see who was calling him. It was Ashki! Wasn't she going to kill him for leaving Clint's group to save the royal family? "Uh, hi, Ashki. I guess you wanna kill me, huh?"
Ashki laughed. It was the first time Bristyn had ever heard her laugh. "Of course not! I realized that what Clint was doing was wrong, so I decided to do what you did, and help save the kingdom."
Bristyn couldn't believe his ears! "You mean it? That's great!" He paused. "Uh, sorry. I know you don't like it when I talk to you. I'll leave you alone from now on."
Ashki shook her head. "No, I don't mind. You can talk to me any time you want."
…
Kathy and Catkae looked around the room, admiring the wonderful job they'd done. Well, it didn't look like they were needed any longer. They might as well go back and tell their boss that the mission was accomplished…
…
In the meantime, Lee had just returned from the kitchen where she had found some freshly baked cookies. There had been tons of them, and she couldn't help but brag…
"Gosh, I just found lots of cookies!"
Bristyn turned around to see who had just said that. If there was one thing he loved, it was cookies! "Where are they?" Bristyn asked, referring to the cookies.
Lee shrugged. "I just ate them all."
Bristyn looked at her in shock. It couldn't be! How could she have eaten all the cookies!? "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
