Recardo's Adventure
Recardo, a Hawaiian native, who loves to surf, lived with his pet gecko, Jose Cerrero. They lived happily in the Hawaiian sunlight. Recardo's hair was brown, but it showed a tint of gold in the light. He was fourteen and lived in a golden straw house, with wooden beams supporting it. In the center of the roof there was a hole for a ripe mango tree growing out of it. Every summer he and Jose would pick the fresh, ripened mangos off the humongous tree. The house has several other holes besides the one for the tree. Water would leak through every time it rained. The house needed repair, but Recardo was content at the time. Beside the entrance to the hut was a fur coat hanging. There was a pit fire in the center of the room for times when it was cold out, and for cooking.
Currently the house is empty. Recardo had gone out fishing for the day, but would be back in a few hours to eat his catch.
A straw bed lay in the corner of the room, flattened because it had been slept on for many years. A tree stump was beside his bed which he used as a nightstand. On top of his nightstand was a picture of his father. Every night Recardo would look at this picture and cry. At the south wall of the house was his surf board. It was painted blue and white with the fading gold letters that said "Aloha". There were footprints leading out of the house and to the beach where Recardo was fishing.
The ocean glittered in the sunlight as the waves crashed onto the shore. Recardo returned to his tiny hut to rest. Ten minutes later he started cooking the fish he had caught that day. He fried the fish with crushed coconut sprinkled on top. He took a mango and squeezed the juice out of it to make a sweet and tangy sauce.
He was alone at the diner table. He was very lonely. He only wished he had someone to be with, and to share his life with. The only person who kept him company was Jose. Not that Jose was bad company, certainly not! He wanted a human to share his life with too.
Jose came around to eat his diner too. He ate crickets from the south side of the island. They finished their dinner and went off to bed. Recardo lay shivering on the golden straw. He reached over to his nightstand and picked up the picture of his dad and cried for ten minutes. Finally, exhausted, he fell asleep.
