Plant it there
where the earth
invites it
with moist soil
and a beating sun.
Under the shadow
of a sunflower
and an iron fence
it will lie quietly,
unharmed
for the rest of its life.
The rain will
drip down its body
and build
in its mouth
a dirty pool
for flies to gather
and different lives
to form.
Tomorrow, we'll
collect the flowers
around it and when
they die it will live
just as it is called.
