It's War

They say it's for Peace
Justice
Freedom
But I don't see any peace,
and your so-called Justice is just thinly veiled revenge
Freedom from oppression?
All they've got is a new oppressor.

We're taking chances, taking lives
All for our own greed
And because we think we're better.
You're gone, because you don't follow OUR laws.
Screw you and the country you came in on,
We're America, the royal we,
We're number one.

Every single one of us has a hand in this.

War is death.
That's all.
Meaningless, needless death, and lots of it.

We're all murderers, and we're all to blame.
That guy?
He was someone's brother, someone's uncle or husband or father.
But you can't tell yourself that, can you?
What you say is,
"They tried to kill me first,
It was them or me,
And I chose."
But the fact itches away at the back of your mind...
that they were here first, and you came in guns blazing,
and maybe it's just self-defense,
and maybe it's me that's the intruder,
and maybe there is no greater meaning to this,
maybe this is just one more life gone, one more spark snuffed out.
And then your "It was them or me" doesn't really fill the moral vacuum the way it used to.

These were real people, with real faces, and real names, and real lives

It's war.
It's real.
It's just a game, and we're all playing for keeps.

We're all to blame.

I wrote this for a friend's assignment and decided to post it. Let me know what ya think!
