Olivia's Love Story
By Holly Daigle
A girl sat beside a tombstone. It read "Brad and Lacet Lucifer, Loving Parents 2000-2020" The girl had set black roses around the grave as she did everyday. She was their daughter, Olivia Marie Lucifer. She was born in 2019, a year before the accident. Her parents were taking a business trip to Japan and their place crashed into the ocean just before it landed. Olivia lived with her uncle who was a cruel drunk all the time. She would sneak away in the mornings and visit their grave. She would pick wild black roses that grew in a secret place within the forest. The forest is her place to be free, no one to bother her here that is until he showed up.
Olivia was walking down the path that led to the spot at which a beautiful waterfall fell and black roses grew.
"Hello, darlings how are you today?" Olivia said as she picked one and carved the thorns out to place it behind her ear.
"Excuse me, but are you talking to flowers?" said a male voice.
"Who are you and how did you find this place?" Olivia asked moving back a few steps.
"My name is Raistlin and I have nowhere to go…may I stay here?" he asked bowing a bit.
Olivia felt a felt something wash over her. She felt as if she could trust him even though he was a stranger.
"On one condition…you don't pollute this beautiful untainted place." she replied.
"I promise…if I may ask what your name is." Raistlin asked.
"Olivia" she said.
"Olivia…such a pretty name" said Raistlin putting a hand on her cheek. Olivia flinched remembering the beating the previous night from her uncle. Raistlin drew his hand back when he saw her flinch and stepped back.
"I'm sorry, you do not wish to be touched?" asked Raistlin.
"It's not that, I just…" she never finished her sentence. She just collapsed on the ground crying.
"Did I make you cry Olivia?" said Raistlin worried.
She looked at him and just held onto him. She just knew he wouldn't push her away. Olivia soon cried herself to sleep. She did this often in the secret place during the day. Raistlin never moved or let go of her. He soon fell asleep from all the traveling he had done.
When Olivia woke up, it was nightfall and she felt something warm around her. She looked up to see Raistlin's arms wrapped around her and his face very close to hers.
"Raistlin…" she whispered and he opened his eyes. His eyes seemed slightly clouded over and before Olivia knew what happened, his lips were on hers. She pulled back looking shocked. He seemed to come back to reality. They both got up from where they had lain on a blanket that Raistlin had lain out after she fell asleep. They stared at each other for what seemed like minutes, and then Olivia got up silently. She began wondering out of the forest leaving a bewildered Raistlin.
"Oh no! I'm so late" muttered Olivia as she headed to the club where she worked for a few hours every night. It was the only way for her to be able to leave the house with her uncle's permission.
She returned home around 10p.m. that night. She had done her usual round of responsibilities at the club, which was called club ESK. She returned him just as her uncle began to drink. He was crazy already, slurring his words. Olivia was still in her club uniform, which consisted of a black tank top and a pair of black, flared out jeans. She was only 15 but could easily pass for 18 or older.
"Where were you today?!" her uncle yelled.
"I was visiting their grave" she replied.
"Don't leave without my say so" he said this and a smack and thump was heard throughout the house.
Olivia sat whipping the blood from her lips and then stood up once again, only to be knocked back down. He never hit her anywhere that her uniform didn't cover. When he hit her in the face she would lie and say she fell. They would not question it. She was lying motionless as he kicked her in the stomach causing her to cough up blood. He finally stopped the beating at about 2am and passed out.
Olivia cleaned herself up and left the house. She needed to go to her secret place. When she arrived Raistlin had set up a tiny camp. He had made a tiny fire. It was set up so perfect. She sat on the blanket that was beside the fire and she looked around for any sign of Raistlin, but found none.
Then she began to shiver despite the warm fire before her.
"Olivia, I didn't expect to see you again after what happened" said Raistlin from behind her. She turned slightly startled. Her bruises were very visible due to her choice of clothing.
"What happened to you? I know it's not my business but I feel drawn to you." said Raistlin. Olivia stood up, closed her eyes, and fell back down crying.
"My uncle…he…beats…me" she stuttered out.
"I see" said Raistlin. He looked at his feet not sure what to do. Olivia still had tears falling from her eyes. Olivia started to shiver like she did every time she realized how messed up her life was. She kept shivering. Raistlin finally put a blanket around her and sat behind her. He hugged her from behind, his legs on either side of her. She had her back against his chest. She began to shiver less and eventually stopped. It was now sunrise. The water of the falls began to sparkle in the sunlight.
"Its dawn" said Olivia.
"It's beautiful" said Raistlin.
Olivia started to leave from his arms and left his blanket on his lap.
"Where are you going?" said Raistlin.
"I must visit my parent's grave" said Olivia.
"Can I come?" said Raistlin.
"Sure, I could use some company" said Olivia grabbing some black roses.
Olivia led him to the grave, which she kneeled at and began to pray. Raistlin stood silently then kneeled down next to her. Olivia opened her eyes and sighed. She let herself fall back and looked upon the sky.
"Do you do this often?" whispered Raistlin right in her ear which caused her to shiver.
"Cold?" questioned Raistlin as he lay on his back next to her. She nodded as she moved closer to him.
"You do this everyday?" asked Raistlin. She nodded her head weakly slowly going into a light sleep.
Raistlin carried her back to the secret place, where he laid her down on the blanket. He sat watching her sleep. She seemed so peaceful sleeping there all curled into a ball. Raistlin decided to go get some food for Olivia when she awoke.
Olivia was starting to wake up when she looked around it was dark in the secret place. She didn't have to work today and decided against going back to her uncle's house. She couldn't take another beating right now. She looked around for Raistlin, but didn't see him. She then heard someone moving behind her and she pretended to be asleep.
She heard the person coming closer, and then she felt the blanket being lifted and someone crawling in. The person cuddled closer to Olivia. He reached out an arm to her waist pulling her closer to him. Olivia turned to face Raistlin. She placed her head against his chest. He gently kissed her forehead. She opened her eyes to look up at him. He smiled and she smiled back. He leaned down and placed a kiss upon her lips. She wrapped her arms around his neck.
'Why does this feel so right?' she wondered as they released each other from the kiss. Raistlin put his forehead to hers and she felt tears in her eyes knowing this couldn't happen. She then got up and ran from the secret place.
She stopped when she got to the place she sometimes hid in for days at a time. She entered a building where people, humans to be exact, used to dwell years ago. They were many things that existed in this building, such as a few vampires, spirits, and the occasional werewolf. She was friends with a vampire named Raul. Olivia met him one night at the club and she knew he could help.
"Raul" she whispered. Air surrounded her as she disappeared and reappeared in an apartment that had black walls with blood red furniture. She sat down on the sofa as a dark figure approached her.
"What's the matter?" asked Raul.
"I'm falling in love with someone, but you know its forbidden." said Olivia.
"She won't be mad at you just because you might be breaking a promise." replied Raul.
"He's right you know" said Tiffani who appeared out of thin air.
"You have to make an entrance don't you?" said Olivia not even startled by her sudden presence.
"Raul, it doesn't matter, a promise is a promise" said Olivia. She had her eyes cast down remembering the night the promise was made.
Olivia was at the club she works at now. She had gotten in with her fake ID. She was interviewing for a job. She had been told to show up at sundown, which she did. When she met the owner, Sapphire, she thought she looked a little young to own a club. She had no idea Sapphire was really 150 years old.
When Sapphire found out she was only 15, she was furious. She allowed her to keep her job on the condition she wouldn't fall in love. This was because Olivia was so young and Sapphire knew many vampires dwelled at her club. Olivia agreed knowing she needed the money.
"I need him he needs me but we can never be" said Olivia as a tear rolled down her cheek. Raul touched her shoulder then walked into another room.
"It's going to be alright Olivia; Raul can take care of it" said Tiffani.
"I don't think he can…at least not this time" said Olivia. Olivia held her head in her hands as she began to cry. Tiffani disappeared from the room leaving Olivia there to cry.
Raul appeared at the club. He needed to talk to Sapphire right now.
"Sapphire, where are you?" yelled Raul into the deserted club. Sapphire appeared within the cub near the bar in her huntress outfit. It consisted of a blood red tank top with black tight pants.
"What do you want Raul?" said Sapphire.
"I'm here to talk to you about Olivia." he said.
"Why? What about Olivia? Something wrong?" she said taking a seat at the bar.
"She's fine, except about the promise" said Raul.
"What about it? It's only for her protection" she replied.
"She has fallen for some who might be able to take her away from all of his her uncle and our world." said Raul.
"How do you know? Tell me that" said Sapphire.
"Because he's my brother" said Raul.
Sapphire's eyes widened and her mouth fell open.
"You don't mean Raistlin?" she said coming closer to Raul.
"Yes I mean Raistlin. He's back in town for a few days. I had been watching over Olivia one day when I spotted him around. He's changed" said Raul.
"Are you sure? Remember what happened? You thought he had changed then! This is why I made her promise. She could get hurt bad Raul" said Sapphire leaning on Raul. He put his arms around her.
"She won't. He really has changed Sapphire. He's not like he was long ago" said Raul kissing the top of Sapphire's head and stepping away. He waved a farewell to her and disappeared. Sapphire did the same and the club was now deserted.
Olivia was now back at the Secret Place where Raistlin was supposed to be. Raul had told her to take the chance. Sapphire had given her permission.
She looked around for Raistlin, but he was nowhere to be found. His campsite was still around, but he was not. Then out of nowhere the wind began to pick up. Olivia's hair began to blow all around her, and then she heard what sounded like swords clashing.
Raistlin appeared in the sky fighting with someone. Olivia watched as Raistlin sliced the guy up. The guy fell from the sky and landed right in front of Olivia. He began to get up than ran toward Olivia. She screamed as he caught her and put a knife to her throat. Raistlin stood frozen within the sky. It was like time had stopped. They all stood frozen…then like a flash Olivia was thrown to the ground as Raistlin appeared on top of the guy beating him mercilessly.
"You person without a father…this was between you and me…not her…I swear I'll beat the hell out of you." yelled Raistlin.
"Awwww…does little Raistlin have a love now?" said the guy.
"Yes, I love her…more than anything in this world. If you touch her ever again, I'll kill you." Raistlin almost growled out. Raistlin got up and walked towards Olivia. She slowly backed away.
"Raistlin, explain to me what is happening here!" exclaimed Olivia.
"I am a vampire…Raul's twin brother in fact. This guy is a hunter…he's been trying to kill me for sometime his name is Roiben…it's for revenge…I killed his lover." said Raistlin as he looked down at the ground.
"Why did you kill her?" asked Olivia looking down at the ground.
"Because she tried to kill me…she wanted me and tried to use me to make him jealous, but it didn't work…it never worked. She decided if she couldn't have me than no one would. I found out and killed her before she killed me…back then I didn't care Olivia…I had no heart to let anyone live who wanted to kill me" said Raistlin.
"So you killed her? The one he loved…" said Olivia.
"I'm sorry Olivia. I know I shouldn't have killed her but I did and there is no changing it" said Raistlin.
"Poor little Raistlin you might lose your love over this…maybe it's just as well since I lost mine now you should lose yours" said Roiben as he began walking away an evil smile upon his lips.
Raistlin looked at Olivia with sad eyes because he knew she was so scared of him now. He could feel the fear radiating off of her. He looked away from her and began to walk away.
"Are you just going to run away?" said Olivia in a quiet voice.
"Olivia I can feel the fear within you…I can sense it coming off in waves…I hear your heart beating fast…I hear your breathing…all of it shows your fear" said Raistlin pausing, " I don't want to be a cause of your fear; I don't want you to fear me" Raistlin turned around to face Olivia. He had one single tear falling down his cheek.
"If leaving you will get rid of your fear then I must go" said Raistlin in a sad quiet voice.
"Please don't go…I need you…I need you more than anything in the world" Olivia said quietly then ran to Raistlin throwing her arms around him. She began to cry and Raistlin couldn't help but put his arms around her.
"If you must leave…at least take me with you…please…" said Olivia.
"Do you want to leave your home? The place where your parents are buried…where your friends and family are" said Raistlin.
"I'm sure…the only friends I have can find me when they need me and as for my family…I wish to never see him again" said Olivia.
"You know there is a story about vampires having human soul mates. They say that they are attracted to them right away…like something pulls them together…it's exactly how I felt when I first saw you" said Raistlin. Olivia looked up at him and realized she could believe that this story was true considering how close she felt to him in only a short time. She leaned up and pressed her lips onto his. He immediately responded and held her closer. They released each other after a few minutes.
"Let's leave now and never return. We can start a new life together…just the two of us and whatever children we may have" said Olivia smiling.
"Ok, we can leave. I know the perfect country…how does Japan sound?" said Raistlin.
"It sounds perfect…let's go" said Olivia.
They both walked into the setting sun and left their past behind. They became new people and were the happiest anyone could ever be…even with the few fights they had no matter what, they never stopped loving each other.
