Chris and Katie

Chris and Katie were always around. He had that crazy bowl cut in his light brown hair that every mother thought was adorable in the 90s, and she had a dirty blonde pony tail that always had some sort of pink or purple hair tie and bangs that dusted her eyes.

Katie and I would dress up in our best clothes and waltz around like princesses until Chris would convince us to go outside. Our clothes were never the same again. Chris and Katie had turtles that they named after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that we loved so much. We used to take them out side and try to race them. I wanted a pet so badly too.

Our neighborhood was made up of coldisacs and on small street ran through all of them. Our coldisac was called Yellow Springs Court. I lived there with Alex, Chris, and Katie. Matt lived in a different one. The back of my house faced the back of the other houses in the coldisac over. The houses at the end of the street had backs that faced a large open field. We loved to play there.

We would run back into the trees and Chris told us that there was a hedgehog living in a deep hole there. I couldn't tell whether or not he was kidding. Not one of us knew what a hedgehog looked like, so of course we were terrified. Chris called him Sonic. I still have memories of thinking that a giant blue thing with spikes would come out of the hole-never mind the fact that the huge thing in my mind wouldn't have fit in the hole

Sometimes we could convince one of the grown ups to come with us and we would run to the lake at the entrance to the neighborhood. If it was one of our parents, we couldn't stay for very long, but if it was the Vincent, the big boy in the coldisac over, he let us stay a little longer. We would bring bread for the geese, but Katie would run away if they got to close. It was always more fun when Matt came too.

And that is why I will never forget them.
