As she printed out the image she had modified onto a sheet of A2 paper, Jenny leant back against the counter top, her legs crossed, palms resting behind her on the hard top, with her eyes closed. In front of her, on the paint splattered table were the paper's once again. Her lips were moving with the words she was murmuring, and her eyelashes were fluttering. The printer stopped it's unhealthy clattering noise, and Jenny span quickly, holding her head at the slight dizzy feeling, before picking up the paper. She moved it away from her, and spread it out in her arms. After seeing the image many times before, Jenny still shivered in disgust. She coughed softly, before moving to push everything back into her bag when she heard the office door open. She moved quickly to the student stands and slid out a large plastic folder. She slipped the picture into it, before clicking it shut and picking up her other bag.
Glancing up, her eye's caught , and her eyes lowered like a child who had been caught with her hand in the cookie jar. His eyes narrowed and she gave him a hesitant smile, before clearing her throat.
"I've put the laptop back. I'll be going now."
"Wait- Jenny."
Jenny stopped paces away from him.
"Yes Sir?"
"I mean it when I say I want to see this when you're done."
Jenny paused, pursing her lips and running her tongue over the inside of her mouth. She nodded.
"Oh Sir. Believe me, you will see it."
As she turned and left the room, 's face was a picture of shock. What the hell was going on?
The cold locker pressed against the back of the thirteen year old boy. Two strong arm's held him in place as a burger smelling breath spat in his face.
"You fat little fucker, where's you're lunch?"
The little boy whimpered up at Matthew Gold, who even at his height of 5'7 still towered over the kid.
"It's in my bag…"
He sneered again, with one hand holding the boy firm, his other grabbed for the bag, tearing it open and pulling out a plastic container.
He smashed it against the locker until it popped open.
"Jam? Yeah, this'll do."
He tore off the foil and stuffed half the sandwich into his mouth. His dangerous eyes fixed onto the boy firmly and the concoction in his mouth was chewed and mixed with spittle with his lips wide open. The little boy's face was screwed up tightly, and the older boy laughed loudly, spraying him with food.
Around the corner, Jenny sneered to herself, shooting the deepest of glares straight between the boy's shoulder blades. Her hand held the paper firmly. This was going to be sweeter than she expected.
The student council was not full of the popular, team captains of the school, but instead, the leftovers. The one's who never got picked for things and had big views on matters. The homosexuals, the females totally against sexism, the political debaters and perhaps the most important group according to Jenny. The group of people who head the strongest views on cruelty to animals in the school, this included the hardcore vegans and vegetarians.
Jenny slipped into her seat at the very end of the table, and looked up to see Madeline Scotts, the leader of the student council. She smiled a large white smile, her bold brown eyes glistening. Jenny took in her too long skirt, the sandals on her feet and the knitted cardigan she wore and smiled warmly.
"Welcome to the meeting on Tuesday the 27th February."
She typed something into the laptop in front of her, before rubbing together her hands and sitting.
"What's the first item on today's agenda?" Jenny almost laughed at the formal tone, but held back her giggle and raised her hand.
"Actually, if you don't mind Madeline, I have something I would like to bring to the council's attention."
Heads swiveled to look at the quiet girl. Madeline blinked twice before spluttering out a yes. Jenny smiled softly and put her bag onto the table, sliding out the tube of paper. The room was silent as she unrolled it and held it away from them so they couldn't see- yet.
"I heard a report on the news, about the destruction certain types of rare animal species' are going through because of all the meat we consume, and personally I think something needs to happen, quickly. I think it's wrong that the students of our school are so ignorant to this, and I think this needs to be bought to their attention."
She paused to glance around, pleased when she saw several people agreeing.
"So, I have designed this. The start of something new."
She unrolled the image across the table. The gruesome picture plain against the red background. Although the sandwich had been purely vegetarian, they didn't know that, and the tomato ketchup smeared around Matthew Gold's mouth certainly resembled blood. Several cries went out in disgust, and some people even turned and gypped.
Proud, she bit down on her lip, her finger pointing at the grotesque picture.
"I present to you- Gluttony."
When the noise had settled, Madeline looked steely eyed at Jenny, who looked down at the image herself.
"You are so right Jenny. This must be taken care of." As the soft voice reached her ears, her imaginary fist pumped the air, and she glanced back up and nodded appreciatively before turning to the rest of the council and retaking her seat.
Tanya Haddock, the main leader of the Cruelty to Animals group growled at the picture, slamming a fist on the table and making everyone jump.
"Something must be done."
As the groups went into chattering ferociously, Jenny sat back and allowed a small smile to grow on her face as she looked into the picture and saw the man who had ruined her brothers, and in turn, her own life. Oh he was going down.
The sound of slapping and sticking was heavenly to Jenny's ears as she watched thousands of her posters pasted everywhere. On walls, lockers, doors and carpers. Slipped in lockers, under doors, over doors, through windows. Her poster was famous to the school, everywhere you looked there was the same image. The same deadly image. She stood at the end of the corridor, watching as students picked up the paper, frowning, their faces pictures of pure horror.
Jenny stared as Matthew Gold stood, dead centre, receiving looks from everyone, with the image in his hands, screwed up within tight fists. He was muttering obscenities. A hand landed on his shoulder, and stood behind him, next to a very unimpressed Luke Johnson. Jenny looked straight into ' eye, and saw something cross his face, before she disappeared from his sight.
Tom Gleddings was teaching when one of the pictures was slipped under his door. He picked it up, and his face dropped when he saw the poster. Swallowing, he looked as the images were pushed through windows. Throwing open his door, ready to scream at the offenders, he saw the hallways littered with the image. People were screaming. It looked as if the boy was eating something alive with all the red stuff around his mouth. Feeling slightly nauseous as the bell went, he tumbled out of the room and raced down the hallway. He stopped, spotting Matthew Gold hunched over, and put his hand on the boys shoulder.
"Matthew I think you should come with me."
Matthew turned, and for the first time, Tom saw the horror in this tough boy's demeanor. He spoke softly to the lad, before his eyes raised slightly, and caught sight of a blonde leant against a wall, an unreadable expression on her face. Her arms were crossed, her lips was bitten but her eyes showed pure revenge and malice. And suddenly he understood.
Gripping the boy by his shirt, he walked quickly toward his office, fearing the attacks that this poster would lead to. He sat Luke Johnson and Matthew down in his office, shutting the door firmly and making sure the blinds were closed.
"Who the fuck did this?" He heard Matthew mutter to Luke, and Tom sat down, rubbing his brow. Why the hell would she do something as hateful as this?
He said nothing to the boys who sat in whispered conversation. Luke's voice was calm, but Matthew's was coated with venom. Ignoring it, Tom fed his fingers through the blind and flicked a piece up, peering out. The hallway was packed, and a few teachers had come out to see what the ruckus was. The image was disturbing, but what was more disturbing was the fact he could see the blonde girl who haunted his dreams staring straight into the office. Her face was not smirking, she didn't show any pride of what she had done, nor any compassion. Instead, her face held complete and utter hatred. He pondered this only for a second, before it clicked. His heart jumped into his throat and he pushed down bile, looking back to the boys. He moved into his office, sitting down at his desk and logging onto his network. His mouse clicked under he reached the records, and quickly tapped in the staff codes. He followed the trail's of names, before reaching his destination. 'Christian Hander'
His eyes skipped past all the details, reaching the part he wanted, the claims section. His parent's had filed a report against seven teens. Tracy Ainsworth… Yes yes, all them. Matthew Gold, Luke Johnson. He thought back to earlier that day, when he has asked Jenny what she was doing. "Me Sir? I'm doing a piece about the seven deadly sins."
Seven teenagers, seven sins. He stood up quickly, running out into the art room and grabbing the poster moving quickly back, he typed in a quick google search for the sins. When they popped up, he clicked on the first link, and read aloud, "Pride, Gluttony, Envy, Lust, Anger, Sloth and Greed." His eyes focused onto the image she had made, where 'gluttony' was plastered across the bottom. His eyes opened, and he glanced through the window to where the boys were sat. Sighing, he slunk back in his chair, his eyes still on the screen. So this is what she had been cooking up for two years. He paused for a moment, biting his bottom lip and think to how she had somehow got so many people to do all this for her, to turn so fast against Gold. Then he thought of her, her innocence and hidden charm, and he knew. She wasn't as naïve as she looked. He looked back toward the blinds, and pursed his lips, before standing again and grabbing the image, he moved smoothly out into the hallway and into the direction of the common room. His shoes tapped on the stone steps as he entered the separate building. He turned to the nearest person, a boy holding a pool cue.
"Have you seen Jenny Hander?" The boy nodded toward the corner, where she sat at a table on her own, a book on her crossed legs, one arm wrapped lightly around her stomach and the other turning pages. He pulled back a seat, and watched as her eyes slowly raised to meet his.
"Sir?"
"Jenny. I know it was you."
"What Sir?"
"Don't play with me. The posters."
"Yes Sir. It was me. I haven't disobeyed school rules have I?" Her eyebrows raised innocently, and she tilted her head a little, knowing perfectly well she hadn't.
"No. But what you did was very cruel." Something flickered in her posture before she offered a small sincere smile.
"Sir, I was just making a point about meat and cruelty to animals. Did you know, that in 1961, the "Journal of the American Medical Association" reported that a vegetarian diet could prevent 90-97 of heart diseases?"
Confused, he didn't reply, so she carried on, "Studies show that vegetarians are stronger, more agile, have greater endurance, and recover from fatigue faster than meat-eaters."
He blanked, before snapping back to attention and shaking his head.
"I know what you are doing Jenny. I understand."
Her eye's flickered up to his, and he could see the fires within. They almost scared him.
"You understand sir? You didn't understand and you never will."
Her voice was little more than a murmur, but he felt his spine tingle with cold. She smiled at him again, "Is that all Sir?" before returning to her book without an answer.
He watched her for a second, before his deep blue eyes flickered back toward the door, where two girls were stood, a poster in-between them.
He sighed, before turning back to her quickly, his eyes running down her soft looking hair. His fingers twitched beside him, before he heard quiet snickers behind him.
He stood, sighing deeply again and moving away.
Jenny waited until she heard his footsteps down the stone steps of the common room. Standing, she turned to the window and slid back the blind. She peered out, watching the young teacher walk back across the courtyard and up into the building, stopping only to let someone out of the door. Sighing, she turned back to the table to see he had left one of the images spread out. She saw the image again, before her eyes shifted to the two girls, Tracy and Suzie Ainsworth.
Her eyes trickled down them both, twins, not identical, but obvious. They were murmuring in voices, an occasional look at the image and dirty looks. It was well known that both girls were vegetarians, and Suzie was a vegan. The image of their friend looking twisted and demonic and eating something that appeared to be bleeding made them both quiver so obviously, Jenny could see it in their beautiful faces. She didn't smile or smirk, and just sat back down, the book returning to her lap with her hands crossed over on top of it. She watched every movement the twins made, never noticing the girl watching them. She slipped her arm below the table, and slipped her file on top, pulling out the sheets of paper. With a large red marker pen, she drew a diagonal line right through Matthew Gold's name. Before she could draw in that second line, she had one last thing to do to make sure Matthew Gold got exactly what was coming to him.
And Hell she would.
I'm good aren't I? Hah hah, not such a fab chapter. But I hoped you liked it. Thanks to everyone who reviewed, twelve reviews and I was in love with all of you.
I know the love factor that's promised hasn't come into it, and it won't until later chapters. Sorry, but I have this planned out. There will be a snippet in chapter three though.
