I Met You at the Coffee Shop
I met you at the coffee shop. You were watching me enjoy myself. Since I was alone, you came over to my table and sat in the chair across from mine. You introduced yourself to me, and we start talking.
I tell you that Jesus Christ is my best friend. You ask me why. I look at you with a face full of curiosity, sadness and hope. I want to tell you everything about him because if you don't know anything about Jesus, then you're missing out on a lot. I decide to explain things to you.
"Well Jesus created me, and he loves me more then I could ever know. He's always there for me, and he's helped me through all my problems."
I tell you this and now you are looking at me. You have always thought that Christians are stupid, religious people who look down on others. But when I talk to you, I am talking to an equal. I do not think that I am any better than you.
Suddenly you want to know all about this wonderful Jesus Christ. Does he love you as much as he loves me? Will he help you through all your problems the way he helps me? You have so many questions and you blurt them all out at once.
I smile at you. "Jesus wants to be close to you. He wants to be your friend. He once died for you. He endured horrible pain just so that you can have a chance. He died in your place because he loves you."
"Do you ever get to talk to him?" you ask me.
"Of course!" I answer you. "All the time. Whenever I want to talk to him, I simply start talking. He hears every little thing I say to him."
You want what I have. You want to be friends with Jesus as well, but you don't know how to do it. You are afraid to ask me for fear that I will say it's impossible for you to be friends with him, but you take a chance and ask me just the same.
My heart couldn't have been happier when I heard you say that you wanted to be friends with Jesus. I wanted to laugh, cry and sing all at the same time. So many emotions happening all at the same time caused me to have to pause before I said anything.
You hold your breath, hoping for a positive answer. You want so much to be friends with Jesus, and with me. You are hoping, hoping, hoping…
"Anyone can be friends with Jesus," I said. "Just kneel down with me, hold my hand, close your eyes, and repeat everything I say. If you don't understand something, just stop me and I will explain it."
You nod, and say okay. You are ready to let Jesus become your number one friend and you just can't wait!
"Dear Jesus Christ," I begin. You repeated it. "I believe that you died for me to save me from my sins." I waited for you to repeat this as well before continuing. "Please, Lord, come dwell within my heart now and always. I want to receive you as my lord and savior."
When you had finished, you waited for me to say more but all I said was, 'amen.' After repeating this you asked;
"Is that all?"
"Yes," I answered. "It's as simple as that. You can learn more about Him by reading the Bible. You can learn so much by reading that big book."
We walked out of the coffee shop together, hand in hand. It is the beginning of a beautiful friendship, but more importantly, it is the beginning of a brand new life as you begin your walk with God.
The End
