O.R: I know its been awhile, but if I have any fans left, here it is: chapter two, Lyre Ayanami.

Chapter 2: Lyre Ayanami

My name? Lyre Ayanami. A mistress of the blade. Reputed to be as cruel as I am beautiful... but a reputation isn't everything. at times, even I run into... difficulties. Mainly the fact that my services aren't solicited half as much as I would desire. In this peaceful world, jobs often consist of random, menial tasks... a complete waste of my skill. However, every once in a while, I receive a mission I actually enjoy. One that is suited to one such as myself. Fraught with danger, mystery, and most of all, combat.

One such mission came to me fairly recently. A man named Robert Valentine, a collector of rare and often well-guarded artifacts. Whenever he hires me, I jump at the opportunity to test my skill. And the pay's not half bad time, it was a 'key' that caught his fancy.

In the ancient ruins, far to the north. The main atrium held the 'jade key', I was to retrieve this artifact. In addition, I was told to expect danger. This mission was one I wouldn't dream of passing on. I accepted right away, and before long, I was surrounded by epic scenery.

A massive domed structure lay in the distance, mocking the swirling crimson nimbus overhead, with a gleaming, metallic reflection. The approach to this mockery of the sky was lined with massive columns, left to fall into derelict. Each column was obscured by a slow crawl of ivy, winding along the crumbling marble. The infinite sea lay beyond, a violent, lavender swell. Waves crashed, sending a saline rainfall upon the earth as I descended into the once great tabernacle.

As I followed along the path before me, the distinct feeling of being watched, an unpleasant... uneasiness fell upon me. Instinctively, my grip reached for my sword's haft. I drew the blade out slightly from its scabbard. My vision glanced down quickly, using my blade's lustre to search behind me. I found nothing, but my nerves remained on edge. I knew that something was there.

Putting my paranoia aside, I advanced ito the main area. The dome was massive to the point where it held its own atmosphere. A dense overcast of mauve hue clouded the air. Waves of apprehensive feelings swarmed as cadent panting echoed all about me. With little warning, a singular beast of lupine demeanor leaped into a frontal assault.

The force of its attack knocked me onto my back, staring up, into the beast's deep, cerulean eyes. Droplets of saliva trickled down my elbow, as its vise-like jaw clamped around my forearm. My feet planted into its gut, and I launched the beast overhead. I thrust my legs forward, bringing me to my feet before facing my attacker. It was gone, but the growling continued. I knew that it hadn't come alone.

Without hesitation, I rushed into the darkness. It was time that I make my move. I rushed for the injured beast, the one which attacked me left arm had been rendered all but useless by his ambush, but my right was in good enough condition where I could put down that wolf easily. The second one, however, was a challenge.

It lunged from the darkness, its mandible latching itself around my ankle. I proceeded to thrust my heel (the one not being used as a chew-toy) into the beast's cranium. A yelp somehow managed to escape its throat, despite my leg barricading its jaw. I raised my sword to release this brute from both this world and my leg, when yet another lunged at me from behind, knocking me to the ground.

Claws and teeth marred my flesh, and before long, anguished screams broke from my throat. It had never happened like this before, I had never been hurt this badly prior. I was actually...scared. I screamed for help, mercy, anything that could end this pain, knowing that those words might be my last. I had almost given up...almost.

O.R: Well? How was it? complaints and suggestions are more than welcome. My schedule is so random and hectic... SIGH Expect chapter three... eventually.
