Stunned Silence
Chapter 2
The Awful Truth
As the plane landed in America, and I started heading out of the transport, I couldn't help the nervous feeling at the pit of my stomach or the doomed feeling at the pit of my stomach that told me that something bad was going to happen. Of course, there could be no good reason why all of a sudden my best friend would stop calling or writing me back and nobody would tell me what was going on with her. I had tried all my friends, asking them about Lily, they seemed to just ignore the questions about Lily not even bothering to tell me one single detail about her. Not even, Lily's doing great! Or, Lily doesn't want to talk to you. Although I don't see the reasons why she wouldn't want to talk to me. It wasn't like I had done anything wrong to her. It wasn't like I would purposely ever do anything that could possibly cause even the tiniest bit of hurt to her.
All through the plane ride, I could think of nothing else but negative thoughts about why Lily wasn't calling or replying to my letters. When it reached to, maybe she had died (I was actually being serious), I cleared my head and told myself to think properly and that surely somebody would tell me if Lily had died. It couldn't be something as bad as death.
As soon as I walked out of the airport I spotted my friends almost as soon as they spotted me. Lily wasn't with them, not that I really expected her to be but there was a tiny glimmer of hope in me that told me that Lily wasn't calling or writing back for good reasons and not hateful ones. Or maybe even that, she was grounded off the phone and wasn't allowed to write letters either, but that didn't explain why my friends were avoiding all Lily related questions.
'Erik!' Shane, a close friend of mine said, thumping my back as a way of greeting. I grinned at him, trying to ignore the nervous feeling that was building up even more.
'Shane!' I greeted.
'How's it going man?' Shane asked.
'Could be better.' I answered, as my face darkened at the question, as did Shane's at my answer.
'Oh,' He muttered. 'Uh…let's just get you to my place.' I nodded my head in agreement. If it were normal circumstances, I would be staying with Lily but since it wasn't normal circumstances, I would have to do with staying with Shane, which I was a little hesitant about.
The moment, the car had stopped in front of Shane's house, I took note that it wasn't too far away from Lily's house. After a year, I could still pinpoint the exact location of Lily's house. That is of course if she hadn't moved out of her house. I unpacked my things in the guestroom but my head wasn't really in it. Lily was on my mind the entire time.
By the time nighttime rolled around, I was dwelling on whether or not I should go to see Lily. Finally, I decided against it, seeing as it was night. I decided to go see her the next morning and put an end to the mystery that was eating at me. I finalized this decision in my head and was about to get into bed when a bright red colour caught my eyes. I inched close to the window and opened them up wide. What I saw was a girl with bright red hair, very distinguishable in the night, brushing against her back, and bright amber eyes, unlike any other I had ever seen in my life. Even from a distance, I could see them glistening with tears as the girl sat down at the side of the road, open to any kind of danger. I silently promised myself I would protect her that night, whether she needed it or not. Because what I saw was not any other girl. What I saw was Lily. My Lily.
I awoke to a loud rapping on my door. A yawn escaped my mouth and I stretched out before glancing out the window. My eyes lingered at the spot that Lily had been sitting at last night. I had stayed up until I had seen Emily, a close friend of Lily's, guide Lily back towards her house.
The rapping on my door sounded again.
'Come in.' I said, sitting up properly on the bed. Shane came in with a goofy grin on his face.
'Hey man,' he greeted. 'You ready for breakfast?'
'Yeah, I'll be down in a few.' I said, getting out of bed. Shane nodded and slipped out of the room.
A few minutes later, I was in the kitchen downstairs, shovelling food into my mouth. Shane accompanied me in this task. In the midst of eating though, a familiar girl entered the room with a nervous expression on her face.
'Hey Erik.' Emily greeted with a small wave of her hand.
'Hi Emily.' I said, attempting a smile. Emily took a seat beside me and wringed her hand together in nervousness.
'Look, I know everyone's been keeping something from you and I for one think that you of all people deserve to know what happened,' Emily said softly, not meeting my eyes. 'Especially, since I suspect that you are the only one who can help her.' I didn't reply to her but gave her a look that said 'go on'. Emily sighed and bit her lip nervously.
'Ok, well, I'll just come right out and…uh…say it.' Emily said. I nodded to let her know that I was listening.
'Ok, well…uh…see, Lily…she,' Emily cast me a nervous glance. 'Shehadanaccidentandnowshehasamnesia!'
'Sorry, didn't quite catch that.' I said, raising an eyebrow towards the girl. She took a deep breath and looked down at the table.
'Lily had an accident and now she has amnesia.'
So sorry for the wait! I was busy with my story 'Haunted'. Also sorry, that the chapter was so short. Apologies all around! I'd love it if you leave me a review. They will be greatly appreciated. I don't know when I'll be able to get the next chapter out. I'll try and hurry up but nothing is promised.
