Chapter 3
No, He Most Definitely Hates Me
"You idiot!" Robbie hissed. "I mean, what the hell is your problem!? Why can't you just freakin' control yourself, huh?"
Nick didn't answer him, just stared at the ground looking bored, while holding a bag filled with ice to his swollen lip. He finally looked up when the principal walked in. I sighed and fidgeted in my chair when I felt someone staring at me. I turned around to find it was Kaylan. He looked really pissed off and I imagined it was because of Nick, who had punched Kaylan after he had gotten Nick off of Jason.
"So what exactly happened here?" Principal Harper demanded, sitting down in his large, leather chair. "Would anyone care to explain?"
I looked around the room at the people who had gotten involved in the fight. Robbie, Nick, Kaylan, Jason, Laura, a freshman, and me.
"The bastard-" Nick began.
"Language," Principal Harper admonished.
"The idiot over there," Nick corrected himself, motioning towards Jason, "was being an ass hole to-"
"Mr. Sampson!"
Nick sighed. "Jason was bullying that freshman."
I glanced at the freshman who hadn't said a word in the past forty-five minutes. He was small, probably about 5'2, and was wearing khaki pants and a pink polo shirt. He looked more like he belonged at a wedding then at school.
"Jason, what did you say to Andrew?" the principal asked, taking off his glasses and rubbing his eyes. He looked exhausted.
Jason shrugged. "I made one comment and Sampson over here freaked out on me. I swear. The kid needs counseling or whatever."
"He does," Robbie murmured in agreement.
"He's fine," Laura mumbled.
"No, he's totally messed up," Jason said.
"Shove it Mr. 'I'm only bulky because I pop steroids every five seconds and I think no one knows about it'," Laura hissed.
"Laura," I said softly, attempting to calm her down. If there was one thing that she and Nick had in common (they had very few things in common) it was their temper.
"I think you need to calm your bitch down," Jason said, grinning at Nick.
I groaned when Nick stood up and towered over Jason. "Say that again Saunders and I'll-"
"Sit down!" Principal Harper shouted, causing Nick to glare at him before dropping back down into his seat. "There will be no more profanities in this office, do you understand me? One profanity means one day of suspension for anyone here."
The room became silent once again.
"Now Mr. Saunders, what was the comment you made towards Andrew?"
"Who's Andrew?" Jason asked stupidly.
Principal Harper rolled his eyes and pointed to the small kid that Jason had bullied.
"Oh...Him..." Jason trailed off rather nervously. "I just said that he was...weird."
Principal Harper raised an eyebrow. "And this was what caused Mr. Sampson over here to 'freak out' and attempt to...uh...attack you? Now I know Mr. Sampson doesn't have the greatest temper but even that would not make him attack you."
Nick rolled his eyes. "Jason here called Andrew...a faggot."
I sighed and turned around to glare at Jason.
"Oh great, now your sister wants to beat the crap out of me. Good thing she's a girl and-"
"Do not bring her into this." I was genuinely shocked that he had spoken.
"That was what I was gonna say," Nick muttered, turning towards Kaylan. "I think we actually had the same train of thought."
"Oh great, so now I'm thinking like some psycho bast-" Kaylan began.
"Mr. Richards! Of all people to use profanity I did not think it would be you! I'm suspending you for one day, and it will be more if you let any other word like that come out of your mouth."
"But Mr. Harper," Kaylan protested, not sounding like he cared all that much, "I didn't say the word. You didn't let me finish."
"I can read the future," Mr. Harper said, rolling his eyes. "Now moving on...So you, Jason, called Andrew here a...faggot?"
Jason looked towards the small boy, who looked absolutely terrified. "Well, look at him. Doesn't he look like a fa-"
"You say the word one more time and this fist is going straight towards your face," Nick hissed. "And seeing as your nose is already disgustingly out of place I wouldn't suggest making me any angrier."
Jason rolled his eyes. "It's a word, Sampson, relax."
"I'm not a big fan of homophobes," Nick said, glaring at Jason. "So you touch that kid again and I'll-"
"Can we please stop with the threats, Mr. Sampson?" Principal Harper asked, sighing. "It's giving me a headache."
Nick didn't answer.
"Okay," the principal continued. "So after Jason said that awful word to Andrew, Nick, you heard him and then...erm, attacked him?"
Nick looked rather proud of himself at this point. "Yep."
"And then you and Jason started fighting and a good three quarters of the school came to watch, correct?"
"Yep," Nick confirmed.
"And then," Laura said, "I tried to stop him with Jordan, but Kaylan over here ripped the two apart."
Everyone in the room turned towards Kaylan. Kaylan simply looked up. "And then the sweet-tempered boy over here," he pointed towards Nick, "got angry that I had disrupted his violent rage and decided that Jason wasn't important anymore and that he now wanted to attack me."
"So then what happened?"
"Then I punched him back," Kaylan said. "And then Robbie came in and tried to rip the two of us apart. I guess he was kinda successful 'cause he got your attention and, well, here we all are."
Principal Harper sighed and rubbed his forehead in an attempt to soothe himself. "Mr. Saunders, you will be suspended for three days."
Jason gaped. "For calling a kid a-?"
"Don't say it," Nick hissed.
Jason rolled his eyes. "For being 'homophobic'?"
"And for punching Mr. Sampson over here."
"He started it!"
"Don't be childish, Mr. Saunders. Now, Mr. Sampson you will also be suspended for three days."
Unlike Jason, Nick didn't seem too affected by it. Or maybe he was just crying inside. Hah.
"Mr. Richards, you will be suspended for two days...And that's all. Thank you for serving as witnesses, Mr. and Ms. Sampson, and Ms. Felton. Now, if possible, I'd like to talk to Andrew here alone."
The rest of us stood up, and I had to smile as Nick gave the boy a pat on the shoulder on his way out.
"Jason's just an ass hole," he whispered to the boy, who gave a small smile.
"Mr. Sampson! Four days of suspension! Four days!"
"Nick," my mom whined. "Why?"
"He called a freshman a faggot, Mom," Nick said in his defense.
"But you didn't have to beat the crap outta him, Nick!" my mom exclaimed, throwing her hands up into the air as she pulled a mug of warm milk out of the microwave.
"Jason Saunders deserved getting the crap beaten out of him, Mom," I said, as I glanced at Nick who was sitting on the opposite side of the table.
"What's a faggot?" Clara asked curiously.
"Nothing," Robbie and Nick answered simultaneously.
"I wanna know!" she whined.
"Eat your broccoli," Robbie said simply.
"Then will you tell me?"
"Yes," Robbie said.
"Robbie," my mom said warningly.
Robbie rolled his eyes as he watched Clara stuff her broccoli into her mouth.
"Okay, tell me!" she shouted after swallowing.
"No," he replied as he stood up and headed towards the sink with his dishes in his arms. He picked up mine on the way. I muttered a quiet "thank you" and turned to Nick, who was glaring at the table.
"Tell me!" Clara shouted as she ran after Robbie, who had begun walking out of the room.
"No."
"You lied to me! Robbie!"
I rolled my eyes when I heard Robbie shout, "Oww! You bit me!"
"Tell me!"
"No! Oww! You did it again!"
"Nick," I said sternly, "stop glaring at the table, you're really starting to freak me out."
He sighed and stood up, grabbing his half-empty plate and reaching over my head to grab Clara's.
My mom studied him carefully as he carried the plates to the sink and washed them off before placing them carefully into the dishwasher, which was wide open.
"I'm not mad at you," my mom said softly. "Disappointed, yes, but not mad. I'm proud that you care so deeply about this, really, I am."
"Homophobes are ass holes," he replied softly.
"I know," she said. "Awww...I raised such a sweetie!"
Nick rolled his eyes and then wiped the saliva off of his cheek when my mom kissed him.
"Have I ever told you how adorable you are?" she asked, grinning, as she reached up and ruffled his already messy hair.
"Ugh, get off of me," he said, glaring at her, and then dodging her hands as she started to poke him. "You're crazy, woman."
I grinned at his back as he disappeared out of the room.
"That boy loves you, you know that?" she asked, as she studied me intently while sipping her warm milk.
"He sure does show it," I said sarcastically.
"No, really. You know what he did when he found out Kaylan was tutoring you?"
"Oh God, what'd he do? Did he go over to his house and beat the crap outta him?"
"No. But, he did come to me and complain for about two hours."
"That's not because he cares about me; that's 'cause he hates Kaylan."
"The two of them actually have quite a bit in common..."
I snorted. "They don't have anything in common."
"No, there is one thing that really sticks out to me."
I grinned. "I really wanna hear this one. Do tell me, Mom, what do they have in common?"
She shook her head and walked towards the fridge. "Just think about it." And then after grabbing a pint of ice cream from the freezer and a spoon, she left the room, leaving me alone to wonder about what my angry, violent brother could possibly have in common with the relatively calm, quiet Kaylan. Nothing came to mind.
"I don't get it!" I cried exasperatedly.
"Alright...Shh..." he said softly. "Just calm down and I'll show you how simple it is."
"Simple for you," I said angrily.
"Simple for you too."
He plucked the pencil out of my hand and leaned over so that he could write on my practically empty math paper. I sort of started staring into space while he was writing and he sighed.
"Jordan, please just focus for me."
"Sorry," I mumbled. He leaned over a bit farther and I couldn't stop myself from blurting out, "You smell good..."
I didn't quite realize what I'd said until he leaned back and just sort of stared at me, amused.
"W-wait...That wasn't supposed to come out..."
He rolled his eyes. "I think it's my laundry detergent. I'll give you a case of it for your birthday."
I was too embarrassed that I had told him he smelled good to think of any witty response. Not that I would've been able to anyway.
He leaned over again and began writing something on my paper, while I stared off into space, not really paying attention.
I wonder if Chad is going to be at work today...He was sick yesterday...Maybe he got better...
"Jordan!"
I snapped out of it and glanced up at a very irritated Kaylan. I bit my lip.
"Sorry," I said rather insincerely.
He proceeded to smash his head against the table numerous times.
"Okay," he finally said, breathing deeply. "Why don't we take a break?"
"You mean for like five minutes...or a few weeks? Because I think the few weeks thing sounds like an excellent-"
"Jor, seriously."
I shut up.
He leaned back in his head, and then proceeded to run both hands through his hair while breathing very deeply. I couldn't help but smile; I must've been getting to him.
"Why're you smiling?" he demanded, rather angrily.
I blushed. "No reason."
He took a deep breathe. "Okay."
"Okay, what?"
"Okay, back to work."
I groaned. "How 'bout okay, a few more minutes of no work?"
He shook his head. "No. Back to work. I just needed to calm down."
I bit my lip at this point to prevent myself from grinning. "Why would you need to calm down?" I asked innocently.
He glared at me and I was immediately serious again. What? He was scary when he glared.
"Alright, try number five."
"Can I not?"
"Jor," he growled.
"Fine," I huffed.
I never got number five right, if you're wondering.
"So Jordan, we never really talked about your dad," my mom said softly, as she slipped into the chair across the table from me as I chewed noisily on an apple.
I froze. "What about him?" I asked coldly.
"You know...the whole thing with you getting angry and running off and just...let's talk about it."
"Why?"
"Because we never did."
"So?"
She sighed. "Jordan, please don't be difficult. I just wanna...I just wanna make sure you're alright. I mean, sure it was hard on me, but shit having to do with your dad has always affected you more."
I shrugged. "I'm fine."
She sighed. "Jor, why do you always do this?"
I took another bite of my apple and swallowed before replying with, "Do what?"
"Push people away?"
"I'm not pushing you away."
"You're not telling me anything."
"Because there's nothing to tell!"
"You obviously were affected by your dad being put back in jail." I didn't reply. "I just wanna know how you feel now...Sad? Confused?"
"Mom, can you please just leave me alone?" I asked exasperatedly.
She groaned. "Jordan, please."
That's when Nick entered the room. Thank God. A distraction.
He was humming some Metallica song but stopped immediately when he saw the two of us.
"What the hell happened here?" he demanded, stopping in front of the table and crossing his arms over his chest.
"I just wanted to know how your sister was feeling about your dad, but she refuses to say anything."
He rolled his eyes. "That's 'cause she doesn't tell people shit about the way she's feeling," he explained simply.
"Yes, I know that Nick, but I'm her mother!"
He shrugged and approached the fridge, pulling open the silver door and surveying the contents.
"Can you stop talking about me like I'm not here?" I practically screamed, preparing to throw my apple core at my mom if she asked me one more time how I felt about my dad being locked up.
"Jor, I just wanna know if you're alright," my mom tried again. My fist clenched around my apple core tightly. "It's important to tell people how you're feeling so that you don't bottle it up inside."
Nick snorted after slipping into the seat beside me, holding a chocolate bar. "Alright Ms. 'I failed both high school and college Psychology.'"
"I did not!" my mom cried. "Only college...I got a C in high school Psychology. And this barely even relates to psychology. It's just a known fact that you should tell someone if you aren't feeling particularly good."
"I'm feeling fine," I said, glaring at her.
"No, you aren't," Nick said simply from beside me. "You think about him being locked up constantly. I bet you're also trying to convince yourself that you don't care what happens to him, when you obviously do."
I groaned. Damn him. "Nick, shut up."
He ignored me. "And that's pretty much what Jor feels, Mom. There you go."
"I don't feel like that at all," I said. "I hate him and I'm pissed at him. That's it. I'm not worried about what happens to him. He deserves what ever the fuck he gets."
And with that, I pushed back my chair and fled from the room.
When I reached my bedroom, I slammed the door behind me and rushed towards my bed, lying on my stomach so that my face was in the pillow. And then I screamed. And then I screamed some more. And then some more, until I was completely satisfied and my throat hurt. Then I turned over and waited for the knocking to begin. And so it did.
"Jor." Surprisingly, it was not my mom.
"What?" I demanded, glaring at the door. Nick entered moments later.
"I'm supposed to talk to you about your feelings since she obviously can't."
"And do you honestly plan on doing this?"
"I wouldn't have come in if I hadn't planned on it."
I just lay there, and he stood leaning against my door. His arms, as always, crossed over his chest.
"So...wanna explain to me why you were screaming into your pillow for the past five minutes?"
"Because I hate you."
"That's not really an acceptable answer."
"Nick, get the fuck out of my room before I-"
He smirked. "Before you what?"
I sighed. "Seriously, just leave me alone."
His expression suddenly turned to a serious one, and he closed his eyes, leaning his head back against my door. "Jor, she's trying really hard."
I suddenly felt extremely guilty. He sounded so desperate, so pathetic...so un-like himself. "Yeah, well she's not trying hard enough."
"You know that's not true."
I gulped. He was right. She really was trying.
"Jor, she's suddenly making sure we're all okay, and stuff. I mean, she never used to ask about this shit. She was always just sort of...there...And it makes it much harder for her to be this way now that dad is gone again. So cut her some slack, alright?"
I sighed and suddenly felt the urge to bang my head against my wall numerous times in a row.
"I'm just...ugh!"
He opened his eyes and stared at me. "I know..." He chuckled bitterly. "This whole situation is so fucked up."
I nodded in agreement and we sat there in silence for a few minutes before he said, "So you're alright?"
"If I wasn't do you think I'd tell you?"
He gave me a small smile before he disappeared through the door. I sighed and reached for my guitar. After all, there was nothing more calming then writing a really depressing song.
I ran a brush through my hair and took one last glance at myself in the mirror. I was wearing a pair of rather baggy dark-wash jeans and a short-sleeved black shirt. My nails were painted an ugly shade of green; just to pretty much piss my mom off. She only liked reds and pinks on nails.
I had actually made an effort to look nice tonight, but only because Nick had forced me into it. My mom was really excited about this dinner and really wanted me to get dressed up for it. And I really didn't want to. But I sort of felt guilty that I had made my mom upset the day before, so I was wearing a relatively nice black shirt with some logo on it and pretty nice jeans. And I had put some eye-liner and mascara on. I ended up stabbing myself in the eye with the eye-liner pencil but no matter.
"Jor," Robbie said, opening my door slightly. "They're here."
I sighed. "Woo hoo."
"Just try to be nice, alright?" he said simply, after I shoved past him.
"Yeah, yeah..." I muttered as I skipped down the stairs, him following closely after me.
"So did you dress up for Kaylan?" he asked innocently from behind me on the stairs.
I turned around and full-on glared at him. He grinned and reached out to ruffle my nicely-brushed hair. This got me even angrier.
"I even brushed my hair!" I exclaimed. "And now you go and ruin it?"
"No wonder it doesn't look like a bird's nest," Robbie replied, pushing past me as my mom opened the door and greeted...well...
"Peggy!" my mom exclaimed, wrapping her arms around the gorgeous woman that stood in front of her. They had seen each other just four days ago, but this was how they always greeted each other. Very, very warmly.
After tightly embracing my mom, Mrs. Richards bent down to hug Clara, and then motioned for Robbie to come forward. Robbie grinned and accepted the hug happily. And then she spotted me, standing at the bottom of the stairs.
"Jordan, are you hiding from me?"
I blushed, although I wasn't quite sure why, and shook my head. I walked forward and directly into her arms. When the hug was over, she held me at shoulder-length distance and looked me over. "Aww...Jordy, you're beautiful!"
I rolled my eyes. She always said the same exact thing. And there was no way I looked even remotely close to beautiful at the moment. After all, I had broken out all over my forehead the night before. And I had also run into a wall somewhere in our house and got a nasty cut on my chin. So I wasn't exactly feeling or looking very beautiful at the moment.
Realizing she had stared at me a little bit too long, she turned to Robbie. "So handsome, Robbie darling."
He grinned. "I know, I know. It goes without saying."
"And Clara, obviously adorable as usual...And where's the violent, uncontrollable one?"
My mom rolled her eyes. "Nicholas Sampson!" she screamed, walking towards the stairs.
"I'm coming!" he replied rather angrily. But then again, when was Nick not angry? His hair was dripping wet when he came rushing down the stairs, and his shirt was covered with droplets of water. He was wearing jeans that were a similar color to mine, except his were much baggier. And I thought mine couldn't get much baggier...
"Nick! How many times did I tell you that Peggy would be here at six thirty? Its six forty and you just got out of the shower!" my mom exclaimed.
"Yes, I did," he replied simply. "And I really could not care any less."
"Nick, gorgeous as usual," Mrs. Richards said, grinning and ignoring Nick's rudeness.
His cheeks actually reddened a little bit. Compliments made him really uncomfortable.
"Think whatever the hell you wanna," he said, letting her wrap her arms around him tightly.
"Well, I'm not the only one who thinks you're gorgeous..." Mrs. Richards trailed off suggestively. "I hear you and Laura are getting pretty close..."
Nick shrugged. "We always sort of have been..."
"Yeah, but your mom told me she found a condom wrapper in your trash can last week and-"
Nick turned angrily towards our mom, who was glaring at Mrs. Richards. Mrs. Richards covered her mouth.
"Erm...I didn't just say that..." she trailed off, looking extremely guilty.
"What the fuck Mom!" Nick shouted, glaring at her. She backed up, looking rather nervous.
"Umm..."
At that point my mom and Mrs. Richards were saved as the door opened once again, revealing the rest of the family. I didn't bother to ask why they had arrived separately.
Kaylan stood by the front door, his hair completely disheveled.
He was wearing one of his normal outfits: Jeans and a Smashing Pumpkins' t-shirt.
And beside Kaylan, smiling, stood Kaylan's older brother.
I grinned and found myself practically running into Jared's arms. He wrapped them tightly around me, and I leaned my head against his chest and breathed in his scent. He always smelled like...well...home. He was always an older brother figure to me, so he just always made me feel safe and comfortable.
"Hey Jordy," he said softly.
"You got taller," I replied, as I finally stepped back.
"So did you. What are you, like 5'10?"
"Somewhere around there."
"My, my, my...And you have boobs!"
I blushed and watched rather amusedly as Mrs. Richards smacked Jared upside the head.
"Not really," I muttered.
"But of course, as my mom would say, you also got gorgeous. Not that you weren't gorgeous before, of course..."
I rolled my eyes and let Jared push past me so that he could hug the rest of the family. He and Nick did a manly hug, but he and Robbie didn't even bother. They just full on hugged each other. They'd always been pretty close.
And then it was Mr. Richard's turn. "My God, Jordan, is that you?"
"No, she's the foreign exchange student from Yugoslavia," Kaylan said sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "Of course it's Jordan, Dad."
"Well, I know its Jordan, Kaylan, but it's just an expression people say when they haven't seen someone in a long time."
"Yeah, but it's dumb since you know its Jordan."
"Okay, shut up boy, will you? Anyways...sorry for the rude interruption from my annoying son. You look beautiful, by the way. So tall...And I hear from Kaylan that you're getting a helluva lot better at math. That's good, right?"
I shook my head. "He's just saying that. I still suck."
Kaylan cast me a warning look. "Remember? We're being positive from now on..."
I rolled my eyes. "Right...I'm brilliant at math."
"Good!"
"So...shall we start eating?" my mom inquired, not even bothering to wait for our responses as she headed towards the dining room.
Mr. Richards wrapped an arm around my shoulder as we walked towards the dining room. "So you still playing music?"
I shrugged. "Yeah, occasionally..."
"Have you done any shows or anything?"
I shook my head, trying my best to ignore the fact that Kaylan was gazing at me intently as I answered his father's questions.
"I'm not really into performing. I just write songs as a way of, erm...getting out my, erm, emotions..." I said rather awkwardly.
Kaylan smirked, as did his dad. It was just then that I noticed they had nearly identical smirks.
"Very well said, Jor," Kaylan said, rolling his eyes as he sat next to Clara at the dining room table. I sat next to him mainly because I didn't feel like walking over to the other side of the table where there were actually more empty seats.
"You should play some shows," Mr. Richards said as he moved his chair closer to the table. He watched me from his seat across the table.
I felt really uncomfortable whenever someone mentioned the idea of me playing my music in front of people. I mean, I wasn't particularly good and it's not like you wanna get in front of like thirty people and play complete crap. That's just embarrassing.
"Maybe you and Kaylan could try writing some songs together," Mr. Richards suggested.
Kaylan and I snorted loudly at exactly the same time. Then we both burst out laughing, and when we looked back at Kaylan's dad to discover he was being completely serious, we stopped laughing immediately.
"Umm...Dad?" Kaylan said, as the two of us just sort of stared across the table at Mr. Richards. "You weren't actually being serious, were you?"
Mr. Richards didn't answer immediately, as my mom was serving him some steak. He took a piece, and then turned back to the two of us.
"I was being entirely serious, actually," he said.
"Serious about what?" my mom asked curiously, as she placed a piece of steak on Kaylan's plate. He thanked her quietly, and then turned towards me. We exchanged nervous glances. We both knew what was coming next.
"I just suggested that perhaps the two of them write songs together," Mr. Richards said. "I thought that since Jordan is afraid to perform alone-"
"I'm not afraid!"
"-that if she had Kaylan with her maybe she'd be willing to do it."
"I think that's a great idea!" my mom exclaimed, placing a piece of steak on my plate.
"What's a great idea?" Robbie asked from the other side of the table.
"Nothing," Kaylan and I answered simultaneously.
"No, really," Robbie said. "What is it?"
"Okay, let's see a raise of hands here," my mom said. "Who thinks Kaylan and Jor should write some songs together?"
At this point I started repeatedly slamming my head against the table, and Kaylan just covered his face with this hands.
"Jor, stop, you're gonna give yourself a headache," Nick said from across the table.
I lifted my head up to find a majority of the people sitting at the table raising their hands.
Kill. Me. Now.
"Oh, because you know what's best for her!"
And that, my friends, was the first thing I heard when I walked into the Special Ed. room Monday morning.
"Yeah, I think I do!"
I froze, as did the three boys standing five feet away from me.
"Umm...hi?" I said lamely.
Jamie began scratching his head and staring at the ground, Nick glared at Kaylan, and Kaylan glared at Nick.
"Hey Jor," Jamie said rather nervously, obviously doing his best to sound casual.
"What's going on here?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest and staring at all three boys suspiciously.
Neither of them answered and I bit my lip, trying to think of what they could have been talking about.
"Actually, Jor, we were talking about-" Jamie began.
"Unless you want me to break your fucking neck, Fergusson, I suggested you shut your goddamn mouth," Nick hissed, glaring at Jamie.
Although Jamie didn't look particularly frightened, (he was used to Nick's threats) I still turned to Nick.
"Nick, what the hell is wrong with you?" I demanded. "You don't just say those things to people!"
Nick rolled his eyes.
"We were actually talking about you, Jor," Kaylan said softly. And before Nick could fully process what Kaylan had said, I had jumped in front of him.
"Nick, breathe," I said.
Nick glared at me. "Jor, get out of my way."
"What, so you can beat the shit out of him?"
"Not that he could," Kaylan grumbled from behind me.
Nick sighed and ran a hand through his hair. Then he gave Kaylan one last warning look before walking angrily out of the Special Ed. room.
As soon as he was gone I turned around to face Kaylan. "Okay, what the hell was that about?" I demanded.
"Yeah, Dude, I'm leaving this one to you," Jamie said, patting Kaylan on the shoulder before disappearing after Nick.
"Get the fuck back here, Fergusson!" Kaylan shouted after Jamie. But Jamie didn't return.
I just stood there staring expectantly up at Kaylan.
"Explain," I said simply.
"How about no?"
"Well, you're the one that admitted you guys were talking about me!"
"Because I didn't think they'd desert me and make me take all the blame for this!"
"I won't blame you for anything, just tell me!"
"I'll tell you if you answer my question honestly."
I gave him a confused look. "What question?"
"The question I'm about to ask you."
"Umm...okay." I shifted uncomfortably as he stared down at me.
He sighed. "How've you been doing?"
My mouth dropped open slightly. "Is that your question?"
He nodded. "Yeah."
"Well, then I've been doing fine, thank you."
He sighed. "Don't give me that bull shit, Jordan. I'm talking about with your dad and shit. How've you been doing with that?"
"That's none of your business," I muttered.
"Well, then I'm not telling you what we were talking about."
I glared at him and he just stared at me, completely calm.
"I'm doing fine, okay? I'm doing just fine. Now tell me!"
"See, but the key is to answer the question honestly."
"That was honest!" I cried defensively. Liar.
He sighed for about the billionth time. "Jor, what are you so afraid of?"
I stared down at my feet. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"You know you can trust me, Jordy, right?" he asked softly, tucking a few strands of loose hair behind my ear.
I glanced up at him. "I have to pee," I said simply. And then I got the hell out of that room. What was with people and asking how I was feeling? I was fine.
Authors Note: Umm...wow...what has it been...like six months? Well, anyways...I know it's been FOREVER and I am EXTREMELY sorry about that! I'm hoping that updates will become MUCH more frequent even though I just started high school and the workload is UNBELIEVABLE. But anyways, I'll try to update every two-or-so weeks if I can. Okay...anywho...I know this chapter sort of sucks, but bear with me people! I'm trying to get this story going again. I had writers' block for the LONGEST time. You see, I know certain events that I want to happen in the story, but they'll probably come later so I have to make sure to keep the story as exciting as possible until those SUPER-EXCITING things happen. So thank you to all you wonderful reviewers who bugged me constantly about when I was going to be updating this story, and of course, thanks to my lovely beta, Sakura! Okay, now I have to go. Bye.
