On the roof of the hotel, surrounded by the cold and dark, I watched him jump. Out of no where. There one moment, gone the next. My vocal chords twisted into such a menagerie of shapes that no sound could push through. When had I fallen to my knees? Freedom found. I screamed. Shrill with despair and anguish, it pierced the night, unrelenting, releasing everything, all my feelings, and all the things I never got to tell him. I screamed until my throat tore and the blood welled. No pain. Dead inside.
Then I woke up.
And it felt exactly the same.
