Beauty of Simple Things

The way sunlight filters through the leaves

Like gold shining through emerald

If only I could capture such beauty

Display it in showcase

Of the finest mahogany

Of diamond-crystal glass

Would everyone marvel

Gaze in wonder

Speculating the beauty of simple things

Which make up daily life?

No, I wager

Dirty fingers will smudge the glass

The image will grow pale over time

Critics will denounce the plain splendor

But put pen to paper

And express such joy

Claiming this beauty for my own

That I shall do.
