Wishing for Fantasies
I am a faerie, fluttering wings
Beautiful face, speaking of things
Beyond the comprehension of your mind
I do not envy your kind
I am a nymph, rare maiden fair
Shimmering lips, lustrous hair
Living bound in wind, water, and wood
I'd charm every human, if only I could
I am an elf, sweet, tall, and slim
Following fancy on a whim
Laughing with joy at the folly of men
Philosophizing with all manner of fen
I am changeling child, tiny and cross
Fretful, ugly, sprung from fae moss
Exchanged for a babe both meek and pretty
But though I am lost, there's no need to be petty
I am a mermaid, slave to the sea
I have no soul; don't pity me
I am blessed with strong voice, but this song that I sing
Has me wishing for tears, which nothing will bring
I am a girl, lost in my dream
I wish for things that are more than they seem
I want to be something wondrous and sad
This dull, dreary life is all to be had.
