"And she tried to fancy what the flame of a candle is like after the candle is blown out,
for she could not remember ever having seen such a thing." – Alice in Wonderland
Chapter 1
Run.
That was the only thing on her mind.
Run.
As soon as she reached the motel, she immediately headed for her room, and locked her door.
Leaning against it, she gasped for air and closed her eyes, muttering silently under her breath.
Still shivering, she shed her cardigan onto the bed, before going into the bathroom.
She turned on the tap and started splashing water onto her face, hoping that it would somehow help to clear her mind. She looked up and stared at her own pale reflection.
Her layered honey brown hair was a complete mess, and underneath her hazel brown eyes were dark creases from her sleepless, torturous nights. Standing at a not so impressive height of 5'3, she knew that she wasn't exactly the epitome of strength and intimidation, and was at a disadvantage in this cat-and-mouse game.
"You're stronger than this, Rose. You're a capable girl who can stand her ground and fight for herself" She muttered.
"Keep telling yourself that, and you might actually start to believe it"
Rose jumped, and whirled around, finding herself face to face with a very solid chest.
She peered back at the mirror behind her, shocked to find that there was only a reflection of her and no one else's. With a gulp of realization, she turned back and looked up at the face of the Devil himself.
"I almost forgot," She thought bitterly. "They don't have reflections."
Hearing her thoughts clearly, Lucifer chuckled to himself. The poor girl.
Rose sighed and knew it was over. There was no way she could outrun or outsmart the Devil himself. She might as well just give up now and hand her soul over, before He decides to worsen her punishment.
Lucifer smirked down at her, "Giving up so soon, my love? Never figured you to be the quitting type."
Rose glared at the greasy bathroom tiles.
Lucifer stood at a height of 6'1, and was an imposing figure, with bold red streaks in his dark over her, he smiled to himself inwardly, This is getting too easy, he thought.
Four months ago, if anybody told her that she was to be the Devil's mate, she would have laughed straight at their face and suggested they go check themselves into the loony bin.
Four months ago, she was just an average sixteen-year-old, struggling to keep up with what's hot and what's not, along with her studies. Life for her then was boring, every day she had the same old routines to follow. Life was devoid of any meaning for her, but at least, it was peaceful.
Oh, she'll give anything for her life to go back to normal now.
