Forbidden Love

Lightening flashes through the trees

His eyes held closed, he still sees

Power and beauty, ferocious rage

A gilded bird, an iron wrought cage

Temptuous eyes and velvet skin

He pulls at the bars and never gets in

Withering away, no joy to behold

The gilded bird begins to mold

Through the bars he grasps her hand

They lock their eyes and there they stand

Frozen for moments that seem like years

her eyes grow wide and fill with tears

Lightning and metal simply don't mix

All that is left are cinders and sticks
