Elizabeth Bowen
prologue: it wasn't like that (it never was)
I wasn't some lolita like some people like to portray me as. They would like to think of her as some Humbert Humbert, some monster, and I was some poor, innocent, victim—her lolita—but people always neglect the fact that it wasn't like that. It was never like that; she didn't marry my father or abuse me, she didn't trick me into it, into loving her. We both knew that this was wrong—I knew it and I didn't care.
I didn't care that, yes, she was a twenty-something dropout and I was just fifteen-years-old. I didn't care that society said that this was wrong. They say that she knew better—that she was older, wiser, and should have stopped this before it went too far—and that I was just naive enough to believe that what I felt for her really was love and not infatuation; that this was wrong in appearance to the law, to society. We where deviants.
People always neglect the fact that I really do love her. That I asked her out after years of knowing her, and I wanted it so badly; I was the one that begged her to give it a try, to just see if that, maybe, she could find something worth it in this. I'm the selfish one, the messed-up one—I pressured her into it. She was the one that said she wasn't going to risk going to jail for this. She told me, if anything, wait.
I didn't.

Inspired by the student/teacher cliche rant over at Femmeslash Central forum (topic: Common Cliches In Lesbian Stories). I like to think this is a unique take on the subject. ...Or I hope it to be.
