Project: Love?
Prologue
"Hey."
"Hi."
Sniff.
"I heard my mom talking to your mom last night."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
They sat, silently, for a couple of seconds. Ash's small nine-year-old hands were shaking. Pretty soon it would be her whole body.
Sniff. Sniff.
"It's not true, is it?" She looked up at Jason's ten-year-old face, half-hopeful, half-fearful.
No.
"Yeah."
"Why?" her dark blue eyes shimmered. Water, like the ocean. Tears.
"My dad." Cough. A cover. "My dad got a new job. We talked it over, and they said it would be a great oppor- oppruto … chance."
"Oh." The ocean. The waves. Tears, running down her cheeks. Agony.
"Don't leave me, Jay."
"May…" And that was enough.
"Oh."
"You know my dad, he won't change once his mind is set on it."
"But it was always just a month or two, why do you have to move away now?"
"Because…"
Silence.
"So, eternity's not forever then," she said, albeit a little shaky.
"What?"
"I asked my mom that once. 'What was eternity?' She said it's like how the sun would always shine from the east in the morning. She said how she'd never stop loving me and my brothers. She said how you and me would never end. Love. Friendship. Forever."
"But what do you mean, us not lasting forever?"
"Come on. We're almost living in different contine- … um, countries right?"
"So?"
"So? We can't be friends if we don't live right next to each other."
"Says who?! May, I can never ever be not friends with you."
"But we can't play with each other anymore."
"I don't care. We'll write or whatever."
"It's not the same."
"It's better than just forgetting about us, right?"
"Okay."
"'Kay."
Thump. A tackle. A hug.
"I'll miss you, Jay."
"Me too."
"Who will I play with now, huh?"
"Well, that girl that moved a couple of blocks from here? Remember her? She was in the park last week."
"But she was so giddy! And jumping all the time." Whiny and cute.
He smiled.
"So?"
"Oh alright. I'll be her friend."
"Hey!"
"What? You're my guy friend."
"Oh."
"Best friend?"
"Best friend."
"Forever?" Your mine.
"Forever." I'm yours.
A/N: Super short. I know, right?
But anyways, a few changes. Anne is now Ashley May Thompson. I think she has the same features and whatever. Pamela is now Christy. Jason is now Jason Lee Aston … but still the same old cutie! Haha.
So I'm going to re-write this whole thing. Hopefully, it'll be better. Same plot, new characters. I'll try to put more depth in this. Bear with me!
That's all for now. I have the next chapter pre-written but I think I'll be making more changes. =p
