INT. ALEXIS' APARTMENT – BEDROOM – NIGHT

Alexis is lying on her bed, writing in her diary, smiling to herself. Occasionally she stops to bite the end of her pencil. Damien O's Delicate starts playing in the background.

CUT TO:

Alexis, Jasmine and Trixie are lying on the bed, gossiping. Trixie is painting Alexis' nails, whilst Jasmine is flipping through a magazine.

ALEXIS (V.O.)

Walking the thin line

Between stranger and friend

Which are you today?

EXT. OUTSIDE THE MALL – AFTERNOON

Cedric and James are walking across the mall car park, when they pass by Alexis, Jasmine and Trixie. They exchange greetings, and then walk their separate ways. Cedric turns to watch as they leave.

ALEXIS (V.O.)

Balancing the tight rope

Of distance and proximity

Where do you stand today?

INT. BASKIN ROBBINS - EVENING

Alexis and James are sharing an ice-cream. Alexis laughs as James tries to feeds her but accidentally smears ice-cream all over her lips.

ALEXIS (V.O.)

Hard to tell when I barely know

The you behind your face

INT. JAMES' LIVING ROOM – NIGHT

James is on the couch, talking to Heather. She's leaning on him tiredly. He reaches over and strokes her head with a worried look on his face.

ALEXIS (V.O.)

Do I know you enough to let go?

Am I far enough to not care?

Shall I be stranger or friend today?

INT. ALEXIS' APARTMENT – BEDROOM – NIGHT

Alexis is lying on her bed. She closes her diary and gets up. She hides the diary under her mattress and is about to snuggle under the blanket.

The hand phone on her table rings. With a slight frown on her face, she gets up again and walks over to pick up the phone. Her expression changes to surprise when she sees the number.

ALEXIS

(Cradling the phone between her ear and shoulder, as she straightens things on her table)

Hey, Mez. Didn't think you'd call me at this time of the day.

JAMES (O.S.)

But hey, baby. Who were you expecting? I miss you, y'know.

ALEXIS

But it's this baby's sleeping time, or have you forgotten?

JAMES (O.S.)

Yeah, yeah, I know. Uh… I just wanted to ask if I could have a rain check on tomorrow's movie?

ALEXIS

(Pouting, walking around the room)

But James, you promised.

JAMES (O.S.)

Yeah, I know I did, but something came up. I'll make it up to you. Promise.

ALEXIS

Sure, fine. Whatever.

JAMES (O.S.)

Sorry, babe. I'll catch you in class tomorrow. Have a good sleep now alright. Take care. Sweet dreams.

ALEXIS

(Smiling slightly)

You too. Love you.

The tone of the phone goes dead. Alexis stares at it for a while, and then puts the phone back in place. She stands looking out the window for a while, when it starts ringing again. She throws up her hands in despair as she turns back to answer it.

ALEXIS

I swear I should just switch the bloody thing off.

(Picks up the phone)

Yes, what?

JASMINE (O.S.)

Hey, Lex. Shannon called me. It's true. They've been seeing James going around with that what's-her-name-Heather lately. And I mean, a lot, dear.

ALEXIS

(Slapping her forehead)

God, and he just rain-checked on me. Again. I don't believe it.

JASMINE (O.S.)

So it's true, is it?

(Alexis sighs)

Cheer up, sunshine.

ALEXIS

I'm so not going to think about this. I'll see you tomorrow.

JASMINE (O.S.)

Okay. See you then. Bye.

Alexis puts the phone down and turns to go. Abruptly, she turns back and snatches the phone up and switches it off. She switches off her light.
