Kara glanced over her shoulder, and reached back to grab Ben. They were on some bustling streets in Chicago, and she couldn't lose him right now. Now after what had just happened.
Just as Kara felt the car roll to a stop, she felt Ben lean towards her. She assumed her was going to shake her awake. What happened next was, to say the least, a surprise.
She felt his lips press against hers, and she had to keep her eyes from shooting open.
His kiss was so much different than when Jake kissed her. She felt good about it. She didn't want it to end.
He pulled away quickly, obviously feeling not wanting her to know about it. He shook her shoulder a second, and she fluttered her eyes open in, what she hoped, was a convincing manner. He smiled at her, and she smiled back.
"Thank you, Ben," she said, meaning "Thank you for teaching me that I can feel safe with someone as more than a friend."
He simply said, "You know I'd do anything for you,"
More than you'd know, she thought.
His hand clasped onto hers, and she turned, almost surprised. He was about to give her a weird look, but she just smiled at him in a carefree manner, and he smiled back, all doubts fading away.
I never realized how much I love his smile, she thought, her grin growing on her face.
…
Ben gazed into her eyes. His lips longed to connect with hers again.
He'd kissed her a million times before. She always managed to fall asleep in his car, and he could never contain himself. But, now? This was different. Obviously. She was conscious.
She started to pull him somewhere. He followed, smitten with her completely.
It didn't used to be like this. He used to just have a little crush on her. And, he was awfully curious about what it felt like to kiss a girl that wasn't his mother. So, one day, when she was asleep on his bed after a long night of studying, he leaned over and kissed her.
Needless to say, he liked it.
But, nonetheless, it was still a silly high school crush that he wasn't going to let overtake his life, nor was her going to let it get anywhere near their relationship.
So, he kept his little crush on his seemingly more beautiful best friend at bay. Slowly, it grew, but it was only an itch that he couldn't scratch, and nothing more.
He was absolutely fine, until he saw Jake and her kissing. Then he felt something that is commonly called, "heartbreak."
And, so, he had to figure out for himself if his world was truly falling apart. So, he called her. Forty-three times, to be precise.
When she cried in front of her, his heart broke for her. She looked so beautiful, and so tragic.
He had to get her out of there. He had to get himself out of there. So, he drove.
He tripped over a crack in the sidewalk, and was suddenly back from his daydream. Except now, he was in the subway.
…
They were in the subway. Kara loved riding the subway, and that's why they were there. The thunderous rumbling calmed her down, and she seriously needed to sort out her emotions.
He paid for both of their tickets, against her objections. The ticket taker gave them a strange look, but let them move on anyhow.
They put their stubs into the machines, and walked through, running to catch a subway.
There was one seat left, and they glanced between themselves, not wanting to be rude and take it, leaving the other person standing. Ben sat down, and she huffed.
"Whatever happened to ladies –" she grunted in a hugely unceremonious manner as Ben pulled her onto his lap. Some of her hair fell into her face, and he pushed it back. She blushed profusely and turned to study the doors across from them.
He grinned, and hugged her closer to him. Her cheeks were a very flattering colour of persimmon.
A/N: Terribly sorry for the wait, loves. School started, and I've already got the workload from hell. So, bear with my very infrequent updates.

You're the reason I keep updating in a semi-reasonable time frame in the first place!
Anyhow, next chapter will hopefully be up in one to two weeks.
