Beep… beep… beep…

"Delete, delete, delete…" I muttered under my breath. I came to another one:

Hey bbz! gr8 date last nite! luv u xxx! 3

I paused for only a moment before firmly pressing the 'Delete' button.

Right, that was the text messages done, now for the photos. I watched grimly as the picture appeared on the screen of my mobile. It was a picture of him. The next one was even worse, he had his arm around me. And… good lord in the next one we were kissing.

How the hell could I have kissed someone like him - the dirty, rotten cheat!

I sighed and deleted each picture as soon as they appeared, until at last I had cleared away every trace of him from my mobile. Well, it was a seven hour flight - what better use of my time did I have?

We were flying to Switzerland - that was, me and forty-nine other students from Preston High. There were also four teachers, but they were sitting as far away from us as was possible. Not that I blamed them, the noise fifty 11th Grade teens in a confined space could make was quite deafening.

"Hey, Mel, you okay?"

"Hmm?" I looked to my right, where my best friend, Jen, was looking at me with concern.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I assured her, tucking my mobile into the pocket of my baggy blue jeans. "Just deleting a few old messages."

Jen nodded. "Good idea. That guy was such a jerk - he didn't deserve you, you know that."

I nodded absentmindedly, and looked out the window next to her. We had only taken off about half an hour ago, but already we were so high in the air that I couldn't see land - or sea for that matter, which was what we were probably flying over now.

"Seriously," Jen persisted, "it wasn't your fault at all. He was the idiot for not realising what he had."

"Yeah. I know," I replied.

But wasn't that what always happened? For some reason, I was never able to hold down a relationship - either the guy cheated on me, broke up with me or 'tried to take things to the next level'.

Jen wouldn't know how it felt. She had Mark, after all. They had been together for two years now, and hadn't ever fallen out. Then again, she's one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet. What, with her long blonde hair, baby-blue eyes, perfect figure, and the ability to carry off a jeans and ski coat ensemble whilst still looking stunning, along with her personality, well, she's been described as 'angelic' many times before.

Me? Well, think of Jen - and then imagine the exact opposite.

That would be me.

My waist length, wavy brown hair was tied into a messy ponytail, with a few bangs hanging around my face. Instead of nice, soft features, my face is more 'angular' than heart shaped. People have said I have a nice figure, but it's more stick-like than slim. My eyes are probably my best feature - I guess they could be described as a 'smoky green'.

As for my personality, well I've scared a lot of guys off with that. I mean, why do guys always seem to go for the 'damsel-in-distress' image? Just because I'm able to look after myself, for some reason I'm never given a second glance.

I guess that's why it hurt so much when Kyle and I broke up. He was the first guy I'd met in a long time who seemed to be genuinely into me, and for the first six months everything seemed to be going great.

Then he started to cancel our dates, stopped texting me, and never returned my calls. He said he was busy, hanging out with his friends, but he was always a bit vague about where he was going. Then, one day as I was walking out of school, I saw his car. He had said he couldn't give me a lift that day, like he sometimes did, but I started walking towards it anyway.

But then I saw it wasn't me he was waiting for.

A blonde girl ran down towards him, and he got out of the car when he saw her. I recognised her - she was one of the popular girls from the year above me. I wondered for a moment what was going on. Was she his friend? His sister?

I soon found out.

He kissed her. Right there. Right in front of me. I just stood, staring, frozen to the ground in shock. It was only when they broke apart that he noticed me. I couldn't hold his gaze, I just turned around and ran towards my bus.

I sat in shocked silence at the back all the way to my house. When I did get home, I opened the door, went up the stairs, went into my room and sat down on my bed.

It was only then that I burst into tears.

That was less than a week ago.

I shut the thoughts out of my mind and turned my attention back to the flight. We were due to land in Geneva at half past nine in the morning tomorrow, taking the time differences into consideration. We had left New York at eight in the evening - it was now quarter to nine. The flight was due to last all night.

I tugged at my ski coat - feeling a bit warm. It was cream-coloured, with bits of purple down the arms and around the hem. Jen was kneeling up on her seat, chatting to the people behind her. I didn't really feel in the mood for gossip right about now. I took out my ipod and started scrolling through the tracks. I was about to select one, when I felt someone tap me on the shoulder.

"Umm, sorry, but is anyone sitting here?"

I looked up, and my heart skipped a beat.

A guy was standing there. And he was cute. He looked quite tall, maybe about five foot seven, had overlong, shaggy brown hair, slightly tanned skin, and the darkest blue eyes I had ever seen. He was wearing a ski coat, like almost everyone else on the flight, dark blue, tattered looking jeans and a pale blue t-shirt.

"Umm, no, it's free," I said, motioning towards the empty seat beside me.

"Thanks," he said with a grin, slipping into the seat. "God, it's madness. I mean, you get up for two seconds and when you get back your friend's girlfriend has taken your seat and they're having a make-out session," he shook his head and grinned at me.

I smiled. "Yeah, crazy isn't it?"

He nodded. "I'm Jesse, by the way," he said.

"Yeah," I recognised him vaguely, but I didn't think I was in any of his classes. "I'm Mel. Mel Gipson," I replied.

His eyes twinkled, making my heart beat quicken. "Well, very nice to meet you, Mel Gipson."

"The pleasure is all mine," I replied with a grin.

Over the next few hours we talked about this, that and not very much, really. About four hours or so later, everyone was starting to drift off - Jen was asleep beside me. I yawned loudly, feeling my eyelids get heavier. I glanced at my watch - it was a quarter to one in the morning.

"You tired?" Jesse asked.

I nodded. The air hostesses had given out pillows a few hours ago. I was currently sitting on mine. I took it out and put it behind my head.

"I think I'll just take a nap," I said, attempting to stifle another yawn.

"I might do the same," Jesse replied, stretching.

I smiled at him, and closed my eyes.

After a few minutes of trying to fall asleep sitting up, I opened my eyes and found Jesse looking at me, a slight smile playing across his lips.

"What?" I asked curtly.

"You're never going to fall asleep sitting like that," he said.

"Well, since you're the expert on the matter, what do you suggest I do?" I asked, weariness making me irritable.

"Here," he said. He pulled the pillow out from under my head and put it on his shoulder. Then he gently pushed my head down onto it.

"There," he said softly. "Much better."

I smiled at him, and closed my eyes. A few seconds later, I felt his head resting on top of mine.

And then I fell asleep.

So, what do you think? Should I continue? Review and tell me your opinions!
