"GO LILLY! RUN!" Lisa shouted as her teammate sprinted down the soccer field. She had just gotten a free kick after being brutally slide tackled by the other team then sent the ball gliding down the field before anyone was ready; except one person, our striker Lilly Jones.
"YAH LILLY! GO GO GO!" Our sideline, full of excited parents, jumped up and down as if they were at a concert. Lilly being one of the fastest players on our team had no trouble pulling away from the defenders on her back. As she drew nearer to the opponent's goal, their goal keeper started to come out to meet her. But Lilly could not be intimidated by anyone.
Right before the keeper was going to slide and grab the ball out from under Lilly's feet, Lilly quickly circled her foot around the ball; making it appear that she was going to go to the left. She then jumped back to the right as the keeper slide by her. Adrenaline was at its max as Lilly shot the ball and the whoosh of the ball hitting the net could be heard all around the field.
Parents screamed and the rest of our team jumped and yelled, running toward Lilly; for she had just scored the last point of the last game in the tournament. The game had roamed on for almost two hours as it went from a 0-0 tie to overtime. In the first 10min overtime, no one had scored. Then finally it was our team to come out on top, scoring in the last seconds of the championship game. Lisa ran over to the other defenders, Olivia Soto, our Sweeper, and Millie Brase, the left defender. Lisa hugged them all before running to Lilly and the rest of the team.
Lisa saw their coach Jacob and the girls who were on the sideline running from across the field. Everyone met together in the middle of the field for a group hug and a cheer for the other team. Afterwards, the team went to go collect their first prize trophy of the tournament. Having worked vigorously for this soccer event and finally succeeding in the goals of the team. Well, at least one goal.
Five Days Later
Lisa woke to a sunny Friday morning. She yawned then turned over in her bed before going back to sleep. A few minutes later her mom opened her bedroom door and let in her three dogs for a morning hello. The two yellow labs pounced onto her bed and began licking her face while the springer spaniel looked over the edge of the bed with sad eyes that said "me too me too!"
"Lisa you need to get up now. Your father will be here in 20 minuets!" Her mom yelled at her before calling the dogs back. Just as fast as they came in, all three dogs scrambled off her bed and out of the room before her mom shut the door again.
'What a way to wake up.' Lisa thought as she got out of bed. She got dressed in a Linkin Park t-shirt and her old soccer shorts. Groggily she picked up her two soccer bags which contained a weekend's worth of clothes and all her soccer gear.
By the time she got down the stairs and ate some cereal, he dad had arrived. "Ready to go?" He asked as he carried out her stuff to his Nissan Pathfinder. A small groan from Lisa told him she was ready but still asleep. Waking up early in the morning during summer was not something Lisa was very good at. Her father on the other hand woke up at 6 every morning no matter what day of the week it was or what time of the year it was.
A couple minutes later Lisa's dad drove up to her friend Kristy's house and they loaded her stuff into the car before heading to a McDonald's for some breakfast. Lisa got two egg McMuffins and some hash browns and gobbled them down as her dad got on the freeway to Spokane, 6 hours away. It was going to be a long drive through the mountains then into nothing but desert. Most of the way Lisa listened to music while Kristy slept in the back seat; her own music playing in her ears. Both were determined to get pumped up for the game later this afternoon.
Six Painful Hours Later
As Lisa stepped out of the car, a wave of heat washed over her. It was way hotter than back home or anywhere else she had been before. Looking at the thermometer in her dad's car it read 102 F.
"You have got to be kidding me. It's not supposed to be this hot, how can anyone expect us to play in this heat?" Lisa cried. Her dad went inside to check them into the hotel while Kristy and Lisa grabbed there stuff and followed him in. They walked through the front doors and were greeted with nice cool air.
"Much better," Kristy said relieved, putting down her bags and looking around the lobby. Grand wooden stairs led up to a second floor while a chandelier dangled brilliantly over it. Lisa saw a couple of their teammates sitting on the other side of the lobby playing cards with some boys she had never seen before.
In the middle of the group was her best friends Millie, shuffling the deck of cards. Leaving her stuff next her dad, Lisa walked over to Millie.
"Who are all the guys?" She whispered to her best friend.
"Ah yes. They are from Canada here for the tournament." She smiled and started passing out the cards. Next to her was Lilly and Sophia Wilson, one of our midfielders. Next to them was Lisa's other best friend Sky who was decided to come to watch the tournament and rode over with Millie.
"Ok I'll introduce you to them." Millie said pointing to the boys sitting across from them. Lisa followed her finger as she pointed to each one.
"This is Scott."
"Hi." He waved a hand at Lisa. His blue eyes gazing up at her for a second then back to Millie, making his curly dark brown hair shake softly.
"This kid is Ryan."
A guy with bright blonde hair and blue eyes nodded at her.
"And this is . . .uh . . ."
"Alex." He stuck out a hand and shook Lisa's. Before he let go he winked one of his light brown eyes that you could just barely see under his black hair.
Lisa smiled at his gesture and looked to the last boy.
"Finally this is Kyle."
"Hey." Kyle had short dirty blonde hair and green eyes.
"Everyone this is Lisa."
Lisa said hi then walked around the table over to Sky and pulled her back from the table.
Giving her a big hug she asked "How was the drive?"
"Fun yet boring."
Lisa Laughed. "How so?"
"Well Millie and I would occasionally role down the windows and shout across the freeway to people in really slow cars as we passed them. And then we stopped for food we were about to go across a crosswalk when we decided to give the people in the cars a little show. So Millie ran out into middle of the street and then I followed right behind. We stood in the middle of the street for a second then broke out dancing. After a couple seconds we stopped, bowed, and then sprinted to the other side of the street to go eat."
"What did the people do?"
Sky snickered. "A couple of people honked and a couple revved there engines. We also heard some people whistle and clap. One little kid even jumped out of his car to try and join us but his mother or someone called him back. It was so funny."
"Sounds like I should've rode with you guys. My dad would kill me if I did something like that." The two friends laughed.
"Here Lisa."
Lisa turned around to see her dad holding a key to their room.
"I'm going to go park the car and look around the hotel. Kristy went over to the gas station to grab you two some food."
"Alone?" Lisa started to head for the front entrance.
"No. Olivia and Ivy went with her. They should be back in a little bit."
Lisa stopped then walked back over to the table as her dad left.
"Ok I guess I'm going to go put my stuff in my room. I'll be right back."
"Ok. Hurry back Lisa!" Millie said winking at her before glancing around the table.
Lisa picked up her bags and walked around the corner out of the lobby. Not really wanting to carry everything up the stairs, she found an elevator and pressed the button.
'Great! I can't believe we have a Canadian team in our hotel. And not just any Canadian team, a hot Canadian team.' She remembered how all the guys looked somewhat buff yet very slim.
' Soccer can be so rewarding.'
The elevator binged at its arrival. Lisa, still day dreaming, stared to walk through the elevator doors as they opened and didn't see the person coming out. Before she knew what was happening she bumped into somebody and dropped her bag.
"What the-" As she tried to step back, her bag, that she had just dropped, caught her legs and she lost her balance, tumbling backwards out of control.
Crap!
