Chapter 8

"Thanks for coming," she smiled at him when he walked to her.

"For you, I'd always," he replied, flashing a smile that seem to waver the girls' heart.

She chuckled and began to confess, "Aiden... I-I just wanted to say that I.. really like you. Maybe even love. I know you don't feel the same way, since you have other girls who are much more suitable for you than me. But, just because I love you, I hope this won't really ruin our friendship- because I know you don't love me back. It's okay, I learned to accept the fact."

She exhaled, and looked upon his unreadable face.

She looked embarrassed and said, "Sorry, I.. have to go now." As she began to turn around he caught her wrist and pulled her into his chest, and kissed her.

They broke out into gasps and he suddenly smiled and said, "This does ruin our friendship."

He kissed the girl again, and whispered to her ear, "Because we're in love with each other."

I slowly opened my eyes and I didn't have time to recall my dream as I was faced topaz eyes.

"Evelyn, are you alright?" he asked. I looked around my surroundings to see where I was. Aiden sat beside me and I couldn't have been more surprised to see him there.

"This is the hospital. How do you feel?" he questioned again. I felt something warm on my left hand, and I saw he was holding it tightly with both his hands. I closed my eyes from the fatigue feeling, and memory of what had happened slowly re-entered my mind. I was having a conversation with Jackson... and somehow that dragged along to Aiden and his fiancee, but as soon as I saw them, I felt something weird and just blacked out.

I immediately realized that I was at a hospital, and how Aiden- no, someone else other than Eric could know about my amnesia.

"Did the doctor say anything?" I quickly asked.

Aiden shook his head, "Only family relations were allowed. We tried to contact your family... but-"

"-So you don't know anything- well, no one knows anything right?" I asked again.

He looked at me oddly, "What do you mean by 'knowing anything'? Is there something that-"

I stopped him before he said anything more, "No! No, absolutely not. I just.. don't want others to be concerned. I'm feeling great by the way, I think I can be discharged right now." I tried to get up, but Aiden held my hand tightly.

"You shouldn't get up, you have an IV." he remarked with a worried tone. I froze as the tone of his voice just killed me inside. I hated how he sounded like he was worried. I hated it only because I really wished he was worried about me.

I put on my glare, "I'm sorry for wasting your time with this.. inconvenience, but I think-"

"-I don't like how you said I was wasting my time. Explain to me what wasting my time would be, because I don't think coming to assist one of my most qualified employees in the hospital is counted as wasting my time." he counter replied. I felt a pressure on my hand, and I realized he was still holding my hand. He looked at where I was looking, and immediately tore his hand away from mine.

"You have better things to do than to be here, and you know that! Stop wasting your time and leave." I trudged on saying the last sentence in the coldest way possible.

He seemed at a loss for words, until the doctor cleared her throat. She looked apologetic, "Sorry for um, interrupting your discussion; but, I came to see how you were doing, Ms. White."

I tried to smile, "No, it's fine. I'm feeling great, actually. Will I be discharged today?" I hoped.

She bit her bottom lip, "I hope you won't.. because we found something in your x-ray-"

I interrupted her, "-I'm sorry, can you stop there for a moment." I faced Aiden, "I don't think this is something of your business."

He eyed me darkly, and walked out of the room. Until I heard the door close shut I confessed to the doctor, "I was in an accident five years ago, and ever since I've been diagnosed with traumatic amnesia I received these.. little shocks in my brain, and the pain is rather... unendurable."

The doctor nodded, as if knowing my story. She replied, "That makes a lot of sense then... and I'm guessing you didn't go back to the hospital since you woke up five years ago?"

"I went to the doctor's to get prescribed medicine now and then, but I never went back to the hospital... until today." I replied a bit warily. I was starting to get a feeling that this conversation was not going to be a good one.

She nodded with a slight frown on her face, "You see , the problem is... I don't think those shocks are just shocks." she said in a tone I didn't like.

I must have shown how I felt through my expression quite well, because she sighed and said, "I think you know what I mean."

"It's a tumour." And it wasn't even her voice that said it.
