Chapter Twenty
Epilogue
OooOOOooO
"Love is a fire. But whether it is going to warm your heart or burn down your house, you can never tell." – Joan Crawford
By the time I walked into school the next day, the whole hallway was abuzz with rumours.
"I heard, he has to marry her because of a deal between their parents!"
"Well I heard that she's pregnant with his child and he feels bad about it so he's going out with her to, like, make it up to her."
"I know from Becca who heard from Shirley who heard from Lindsey who was there, that she beat him up and made him go out with her!"
Normally hearing outrageous rumours like these would upset me slightly, but today I felt on top of the world. Our date yesterday – even though Logan refused to call it one – was simply amazing. It felt so good to be able to give into any urge without having to stamp down on my feelings. So, instead of getting annoyed, I walked right up to the group of girls that were whispering loudly.
"Well I heard that she threatened to suicide if he didn't go out with her! But then I heard from Charlotte who heard from Melissa who heard from Courtney who heard from Candace who heard from Felicity who heard from Tanya that she was actually a prostitute and he bought her for the rest of the year!"
They all gaped at me as I turned on my heel and walked away, a massive, silly grin on my face. I was putting my books in my locker when someone spun me around and leant against me. I giggled as his hands brushed through my hair.
"I've been hearing some strange rumours," he murmured, his breathe hot against my ear. "You wouldn't have anything to do with that, would you?"
"Oh no! I never!" I lied, then gasped when he bent down and laid a few butterfly kisses against my neck. I gave in for a second before pushing him away. "I hate it when people make out in the corridors and I'm not going to be a hypocrite and do it myself!" No matter how much I like it.
"Well, I see a nice storage cupboard over there that looks rather secluded."
"Nice try, big boy!" I said, laughing as I got out my books for first period. "Now, carry my books for me, manfriend!"
He made a face but grabbed them anyway as we made our way to our first class, whispers following us all the way. However, before we could make our perfect getaway to class, a claw grabbed my shoulder and yanked me back.
"What the hell do you think you're doing with my boyfriend, slut!" Ebony screamed.
I blinked. "You're not serious, are you?"
"Yes I am you stupid whore! Now get the fuck away from my boyfriend!"
I couldn't help but start laughing. "Honey, he never was your boyfriend! It was a nice try though. See this?" I held up our entwined hands. "It mean's we're together. Girlfriend and manfriend."
We shared a smile, and for a moment I completely forgot about the fool standing in front of me.
"Uh, hello? Logan, say something," she whined. I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. I couldn't even feel resentful towards her for trying to steal my guy! That's how much pity I felt towards her!
"Ebony, you know it was never like that. I've always liked Regan and, no offence, but you've turned into a grade-A bitch since I first met you." She stood there, her mouth gaping open and close like a dying fish. Logan leaned down and breathed in my ear, "Fuck this. Wanna skip?"
I grinned at him. "Randal's gonna kill me, but why the hell not?"
I dumped his and my books back at my locker and we took off out of the school. We just walked in a comfortable silence, and I felt no need to break it. We came to the park and I sat on one of the swings. I suddenly got déjà vu of the other weekend when I was sitting in this exact spot, trying my hardest not to let myself fall apart.
Suddenly I grinned and Logan turned to me on his own swing.
"What?" he asked, silver eyes bright.
"I've decided… that I love you like a fat kid loves cake."
He burst out laughing. "I've never found that romantic before, or even slightly sexy! How the hell do you manage to pull that off?"
I smirked and flicked my collar out, like they do on all those cool TV shows. "I'm Regan Shanahan, what else can I say?"
.End.
