Chapter 1: First Meeting

I never had the greatest life. In fact, my life sucked from the very beginning. I was abandoned at birth by my drug-addict mother because I obviously wasn't good enough for her. Yes, it often did sting to know that she never wanted me, and it left me with a bitter heart.

Its amazing how someone that I never even knew could leave such a powerful mark upon me. The most that I could even relate to her was in the old photos that I had been shown. I had obviously gotten my looks from her and that fact haunted me each and every time that I looked in the mirror.

I hated her. Not only did she abandon me, but she left me with me father who, in truth, wasn't any better. My father was an abusive alcoholic and he blamed me for my mother's sudden departure. He would come home, cursing and beating me, causing me to develop a fear and loathing for him at a young age.

Mostly, I tried to stay out of his way, taking extra after school activities, like volleyball, just to avoid coming home to him. Thankfully, he usually didn't come home until the late hours of the night because he spent most of his time drinking at some bar. So as you can tell, I obviously had a rough childhood, growing up in a negative atmosphere.

For as long as I can remember, I've always made plans for the day when I get the hell out of this place and never come back. I promised myself long ago that I wouldn't let him break me. So, I'm currently a straight A student with perfect records, hoping to shoot for a scholarship that can send me to the farthest place possible.

Well, that's my goal for now, and I've only got two years to go. Oh God, I forgot to introduce myself, my apologies. My name is Jennifer Robinson, I'm sixteen, I have auburn hair and emerald eyes, and Ill be a junior when high school starts up again.

But this story isn't about me or my screwed up childhood. It's all about him, the most aggravating person that you will ever meet, who drove me absolutely crazy! Who is he? He's none other than Brent Carriere. How did I come to meet someone totally obsessed with me?

Well, Ill tell you exactly how, but it's the complete opposite of romantic. In fact, it was absolutely horrible. Do you still want to know? Ughh, fine, but it's just between you and me, got it? So, here's where I begin my story of how a total moron stole my heart...

I was in the backseat of a car with my two best friends, Jamie and Danielle, blasting the music o the radio. It was the last day of summer and we had decided to do something all together before school started again. So, here we are on our way to the movies on a Sunday night.

"So what do you guys want to see?" Danielle asked from the driver's seat.

She had dirty blonde hair and blue eyes and an attitude that no one wanted to mess with.

"How about 'See No Evil?'" Jamie asked from the passenger's seat.

Jamie had long, dark hair with brown eyes and she was slightly chubby with freckles.

"No," I protested, "I don't feel like seeing a scary movie tonight. How about 'Wild Hogs?' I heard that it was supposed to be funny."

"That's fine with me," Danielle agreed.

"Alright then, 'Wild Hogs' it is," I announced, making it official.

"Aww, no fair! You guys always gang up on me!" Jamie whined, making us laugh.

Yeah, these are my best friends and without them I would have lost my sanity a long time ago. Thank God for them.

Fifteen minutes later, we were all in line, paying for our tickets.

"Three tickets for 'Wild Hogs' please," I said politely to the lady behind the window, but she seemed rather annoyed with me.

She was a heavy woman in, what appeared to be, her thirties and looked as if she hated being here. I waited as she punched in a few buttons and told me the price. I nodded and began to dig in my purse in search of my wallet, but it wasn't there.

I looked up at her and gave her an uneasy smile, but she just looked at me like I was stupid. So I went back to digging for my money as she began to smack her gum loudly in an aggravating beat. After an embarrassingly long moment of search, I finally found my wallet and handed her the money.

She glared at me and rolled her eyes as she took the money and held out the tickets. However, when I went to grab them, she wouldn't let go for anything. I had to practically rip it from her fingers and when I did, she just gave me an evil smile to mock me. After that, I quickly walked away; glad to have gotten out of that situation.

"Well, it's about time," Danielle said as I caught up with them in the snack line.

I just rolled my eyes and waited as Danielle practically bought everything in the whole freaking snack stand. Typical her. She could eat like a freaking pig, but still stay as thin as a supermodel. Yes, I'm Jealous.

"Ooh, someone's totally got the hots for you, Jen," Jamie said, elbowing me in the side and giving me a wink.

"Huh?" I asked stupidly, snapping out of my thoughts.

"Look over there. That hot guy is seriously checking you out!" Jamie said with a smirk.

I turned around and sure enough, some guy was looking at me. But he was just looking. Its not a crime to stare, you know. He wasn't actually checking me ou- wait... was he... was he actually checking me out?! Yeah, he definitely was.

His hazel eyes were skimming up and down my body with a steady gaze. When his eyes met mine, I quickly turned around with a deep shade of red appearing on my cheeks.

"Is he still looking?" I whispered.

"Oh yeah," Jamie said with amusement, "And now he's coming over..."

"What?! He's coming over?!" I said.

"Yeah, I think that he wants to talk to you," Jamie said, making me extremely nervous.

"Come on, let's go!" I said, rushing past them.

They, of course, followed after me. With all that I had witnessed during my childhood, I had wanted to avoid guys at all costs. That's just how I was. I had grown up with the one thing that I hated more than anything and I had developed a natural fear of it.

So I had learned to block out the one thing that I knew could hurt me.

Ten minutes into the movie, Danielle announced that she had forgotten to get twizzlers at the snack stand and guess who had to go and get them for her... Yeah, that's right, me. God, didn't she have enough snacks already? Why would the absence of her precious twizzlers even matter?!

Apparently they were God to her; she was addicted to them. So I gave her my ticket to hold and there I was, heading towards the snack stand for my candy-addict friend, who obviously didn't have enough sugar already. However, as I was walking towards it, the unbelievable happened. Some idiot holding two large drinks decided to trip on his own pants.

Unfortunately, I just had to happen to be standing right next to him and I gasped out loud as the contents of his drinks spilled all down the front of my shirt and onto the floor. At first, I was so shocked that all I could do was gape at him as I stood there dripping wet. Then, I managed to blink to at least show acknowledgement hat I was aware of his actions.

I wanted to yell at him, but I was speechless. That's when I finally looked at him and my mouth fell open. It was the same guy that had been checking me out before! He was slightly taller than me with dark brown hair and the same hazel eyes. He looked at me as if he had seen a ghost and his face went pale.

"Oh God, I'm so sorry!" he apologized.

He ran over to help me, but then slipped on the now slippery floor. So he ended up tackling me to the floor and landing on top of me! Yes, he was on top of me in the most awkward position and I could feel everyone's stare upon us. And what really aggravated me was the fact that he hadnt even attempted to remove himself from his position, he just stared down at me!

"Get off!" I said, pushing against his chest.

It was only then that he decided to get off of me. When he had finally gotten to his feet again, he held out his hand to help me up. I took one look at it and then ignored it, standing up by myself. Now we were both soaked and gazing at each other. I broke the gaze to look down at my shirt and groaned in disgust.

I really hated being here now. So much for a night of fun. I was about to walk away and forget about him, but things just had to get worse. The same lady that had sold me my ticket had suddenly appeared out of no where and was glaring at me. Shit.

"I don't remember you coming in. Where's your ticket?" she asked gloomily.

I can't believe that she's actually assuming that I don't have my ticket... oh God, I actually don't! I suddenly remembered giving my ticket to Danielle because I was too lazy to hold it. Well this sucks
Hold on! She's got to remember me.

"My friend has my ticket with her, but you remember me, right?" I asked, trying to save myself from a bad situation, but getting nothing but a blank stare.

I think that I can actually hear the crickets in the background.

"You know... from the ticket line..?" I said, trying to refresh her memory.

"No, I remember no such thing. We don't allow people to sneak in," she stated.

Damn, this woman must really hate me, because I know that she remembers me.

"Whoa, she didn't sneak in. I saw her-" the guy beside me began, but the woman cut him off.

"And who are you? Did you help her sneak in?" she asked.

"No, I-" he started.

"Out!" she yelled, taking us by the shirt and escorting us out at the exit.

She basically threw us out and slammed the door behind her, leaving us to stand outside alone and deserted in the cold. I can't believe this! I just can't believe this! What a way to spend the last day of summer. Note my sarcasm. I was standing outside in sticky clothes, shivering in the cold, with no ride home. I guess hat I could always walk home...

So we just stood there in silence although I could feel him looking at me. In truth, the silence was awkward, but I wanted it to stay that way.

Please don't talk to me. Please don't talk to me. Please don't-

"I'm really sorry for what happened. Are you okay? Do you need any help?" he said, coming towards me.

"No," I muttered coldly as I walked past him.

"Where are you going?" he asked, running after me.

"Home," I answered simply, starting to walk faster.

"Well, can I give you a ride?" he asked.

"No, I'll walk," I said, though I'd much rather take him up on his offer.

"You can't be serious," he said.

"Does it look like I'm joking?" I asked.

"Why don't you just let me give you a ride?" he asked.

"Because."

"Because why?"

"Because!" I said angrily.

This guy was really starting to get on my nerves. No matter how fast I walked, I couldn't seem to lose him. He was like a freaking parasite! I quickly stopped and turned around, deciding to confront him.

"Will you quit following me?!" I snapped.

"No," he said stubbornly, "Not until you get into my car."

"What are you going to do, kidnap me?" I asked.

"Maybe," he said with a smirk, "Just get into the car."

"Sorry, but no," I said with false politeness.

I began to walk away but I could hear his footsteps right behind me. I rolled my eyes in annoyance and turned around again.

"You're not going to leave me alone, are you?" I said.

"No, probably not," he said with a grin.

"Well, if I let you drive me home, will you finally leave me alone?" I asked, considering his offer.

"Of course," he said.

I sighed, deciding to give in to him.

"Fine, where's your car then?" I asked, giving him the permission that he had wanted.

His face lit up immediately and he smiled in triumph. Damn him.

"My name's Brent," he said, holding out his hand.

"Whatever," I said, rolling my eyes and walking past him as I ignored his out held hand.

I couldn't see him, but I knew that he was smirking as he followed after me.

I was now seated in the passenger side of, as I now knew, Brent's black convertible with my arms folded across my chest as I waited for him to drop me off. Along the ride, he had attempted to strike up a conversation many times, but I would quickly end them with simple words like 'oh' and 'yeah.'

Besides that, there was nothing but silence, and I was thankful for it. I didn't want to talk to him; I was stubborn and held grudges easily. In the rear view mirror, I could see him catching glances at me from time to time and it was really starting to get annoying.

"So, I told you my name..." he said, trying to give hints to me, but I thought that it would be fun to play dumb and said nothing.

"Well?" he asked.

"Well, what?" I asked stupidly, without even turning to face him.

"Well, you got a name?" he asked, being more specific.

"Yeah," I said while examining my nails and seeming uninterested.

He looked at me, expecting more to the answer and waited patiently. When he took the hint that I wasn't going to say anything, he cleared his throat and I rolled my eyes before turning towards him.

"Yes?" I asked with false sweetness.

"Aren't you going to tell me your name?" he asked.

"No," I replied before turning to stare out of the window.

I can't be sure, but I thought I heard him laugh softly to himself. Not that I really cared or anything.

Finally, he pulled up in my driveway and I shuffled out of the door with determination to get the hell out of there.

"Goodnigh-" he started, but I slammed the car door in his face before heading towards the front door of my house.

I could feel his eyes on me the whole time as I made my way into the house. As soon as I reached the safety of my home, I listened as he drove away and I sighed with relief. He was gone.

And that's how it all began. We met all because he spilled soda all down my shirt. Blame it on the damned drink. But this wasn't all. Just wait until you hear the rest of the story. Hell, it's so full of drama rolls eyes. Are you absolutely sure that you want to know the rest?

Well, you CAN'T... alright fine. Ughh, here we go
Anyway, the point was that I thought that I would never see him again after that night, I thought that it was over. Oh, how I was wrong. God, I had completely misjudged the situation and was unaware of the possibilities...
Well, I was in for one hell of a shock.
