On my way, past the canyons
I found a lost lone boy
I knelt down and wiped his tears
A gesture that brought me joy.

He said he wasn't sure where to go
He said he was all alone
I asked him where he belonged
But he said it wasn't known.

I had no idea what he meant
As I saw his cloudy eyes
I saw the look of cold fear
Fear of his own demise.

I asked him why he was here
He told me he was already gone
'Why are you not home, child?'
'Never under the golden dawn.'

I felt it creep on me
A screaming voice of fear
Then the boy cried
And threatened to be severe.

He yelled for me not to run
That I was out of time
He said I would surely pay
Pay forever for my crimes.

I was quite confused
I could remember not
The boy started screaming
'How could you forgot?!'

'How could you not remember
How you caused so much harm
You made blood spill
From the poor unarmed!'

His angry words hurt my ears
He was like a banshee
A siren from the past
It started to come back to me.

His voice rang every error
That I had made before
Everything I once hushed away
Now I couldn't ignore.

He pulled at me roughly
The past I chose to bury
That I thought was gone
Was quite the contrary.

The boy became so strong
And shoved me to the ground
He said everything I forgot
Would now be again found.

My eyes opened to daylight
I got back up from my fall
I continued on my walking
To find memories I couldn't recall.
