Chapter 6:

Bad dog

I breezed through the rest of the day pretty easily. It was so much more fun without Yukimaru getting on my case. I was still bugged about why Momo had such a strange reaction but I figured it couldn't be anything too serious. Akemi and Natsuko had noticed as well but didn't give it any thought. They said that it was impossible for him to stay as cheery as he normally is all the time.

I agreed, though I wasn't convinced. Since I had only just met him I didn't know what was normal and what wasn't for him. Either way it definitely wasn't going to stop me from thinking about his attractive cousin. I didn't have much experience around guys but I definitely knew that I was attracted to Kevin.

Once the day ended I day-dreamed about him as I walked down the hall to my locker. His blue eyes were so deep and piercing and his smile made my heart flutter. Generally I hated when girls acted this way but I found myself unable to control it. In that short time he made me so aware of my being a female, and I liked it. I guess it was because he's so different from Yukimaru. I bet Kevin would never hit me or do anything weird. And he most certainly wouldn't have just kissed me for no reason.

No, Kevin was a nice guy. Much nicer then Yukimaru could ever hope to be. Perhaps I'd even mention Kevin showing up to him. That would show that big idiot who's the boss around here. Just the thought of the look upon his face made me anxious to get home.

"Aki! Wait up!" I heard a familiar voice call from behind me. I looked around and saw Momo running up to me.

"Aki, want to go to my favorite coffee shop with me?" he asked cheerfully. You'd never be able to tell he was the same guy who was so upset at his cousin earlier. His bouncy attitude had returned full force. It was nice to see him happy again but the mood swings were a little unsettling.

"Well I've got some time to kill, let's go." His change may have been strange but I wasn't the type to turn down a chance to have some fun.

His smile brightened and he grabbed my arm and dragged me down the street. I clutched my bag and tried to keep up with his pace. I noted that he was surprisingly light on his feet. I made a mental note to ask him if he was planning to join the track team.

"You'll like this place. The coffee is really yummy! Oh, and they have delicious sweets too! You have to try some!" He went on describing the various sweet treats the shop had. They sounded so good I have to admit I started to drool. It wasn't like me to get like that, or at least not in public.

We stopped in front of a small coffee shop. It didn't look like anything special. When we walked in I saw many sophisticated looking people sipping lattes and typing away on laptops. Some people were seated at tables by the window, reading novels. It had the typical air of a coffee shop, or at least all the ones that I'd been to. Only difference was the wonderfully sinful smells in the air. If scent alone was an indication I knew this place would soon become one of my favorite hangouts.

"Let me order for us. I'm friends with the family who owns this place." He released my arm and rushed over to the line. I laughed as I looked at the difference between him and the rest of the customers. They all looked so mature and unconcerned with anything but themselves where as he looked like a kid in a candy shop.

I walked over to a small table by the door and waited for him to get our order. While I waited I decided to people watch. Everyone seemed to be off in the own little worlds. I spied a rather attractive guy working behind the counter. Something about him looked familiar but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

"Here you go! I hope you like it!" Momo popped up in front of me. Luckily he hadn't noticed me staring at the cutie behind the counter. I looked at what he brought me. It was a cinnamon bun and a very frothy drink. I lifted the cup and gave it a delicate sniff. It smelled sweet and enticing. One sip and I was hooked. It had a nice chocolate flavor.

"Wow, it is really good. What is it?" I asked as I took another sip.

"It's a special recipe. They call it sweet dreams. It's my favorite!" he gushed and smiled at me as he took a sip of his own.

The name suited it well. I put my cup down and took a cite of the cinnamon bun. It was just as good. I decided right then and there that this was my favorite new place.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" came an icy voice. I choked on my cinnamon bun then took a swallow of my coffee to wash it down. I looked up and saw those mean cold eyes I couldn't stand.

"I have every right to be here. What's your excuse Yukimaru?" I growled at him. Nothing makes me lose my appetite more then seeing his face.

"That's none of your concern," he seemed even more grumpy then usual but the teasing side of him was completely gone. He looked away from me to glare at Momo. "So is he here too?"

"No, I just brought Aki. You know he's doing it again," Momo said. Though his words were serious it was ruined by the pleasure on his face as he took a big bite out of his cinnamon bun. After he finished it off he wiped his face with a napkin then looked at me.

"I need to have a word alone with Yu-san. Would you mind watching my drink for me?" he asked.

"Sure, I guess." I would gladly do anything to get rid of Yukimaru. Momo got up and they both walked to the far end of the shop. I sat there peacefully and went back to enjoying my drink.

Momo straightened up and looked dead into Yukimaru's eyes. All his sweet innocence drained away. "You know what will happen if you leave like that again. He's already started to make his move."

Yukimaru looked disgusted. He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the wall. His hair hung low in the front and partly shielded his eyes.

"What do you want me to do about it? She's not going to cooperate. What sane person would this day in age?" He said. His features hardened.

"Well if you hadn't made that bone head move the first day maybe it wouldn't be so difficult," Momo spat back at him. He knew that would hurt his friend but they didn't have time to play games. He loved his cousin dearly but him moving to town spelled big trouble.

Yukimaru knew he was wrong for hitting her. He didn't know she wasn't going to dodge it. Her skills were impressive even to him so he didn't think a simple trick like that would have such an effect. He had come on way too strong in the beginning. That was a fact.

Her scent. It was that damn intoxicating scent of hers. His sense of smell was incredibly sensitive and he had been overloaded when she crashed into him. It was a typical problem he had around females but for some reason she had a strangely powerful effect on him. And it wasn't just then that she messed with his senses. All through the dinner at her house he distracted himself with talking with her mother but in truth he was only interested in her.

He knew she was upset he was there. He knew it but a part of him didn't care. His true self wanted to be unleashed and controlling it was no easy task. He told himself he took just one kiss he would be ok. Her pouty lips had been so tempting. Then when he found out he had forcefully taken her first kiss he could have kicked himself. Though he was surprised she hadn't kissed anyone before he knew good and well she didn't want him to be the first.

Now that pain in the butt Kevin was back and things had become a lot more difficult. He knew what Kevin's intentions were. The guy looked so innocent compared to him. Normally Yukimaru would ignore him and keep his distance but now there was much too much on the line for him to lay low. Aki was the key to it all and he had blown it by making her hate him. So much for first impressions.

"Are you listening to me!" Momo shouted, stirring Yukimaru out of his thoughts.

"Sorry, what?" he asked, embarrassed that he hadn't heard a word his friend had said.

"Look, I'm going to bail out and you are going to walk her home. You have to train with her father tonight anyway so she can't complain. If you're smart you'll fix all the mess you caused."

Momo didn't even wait for Yukimaru to answer. He took a deep breath then went back to the table and grabbed his coffee.

"I'm sorry I have to leave so soon but I forgot I have something really important to do at home. I'll see you tomorrow though." He smiled then rushed off before I could even open my mouth. I stared at him as he rushed out the door. When I looked back to his seat Yukimaru had filled it. My expression went sour.

"Wait, before you chew me out I want to say something to you," he said in a low voice. He kept his eyes downward.

"Fine. What is it?" I asked, positive I wouldn't want to hear anything he had to say.

"I'm sorry for what I did to you. It was wrong of me. But there are things going on that I don't think you understand." He looked up at me to gauge my reaction. When he saw that I wasn't going to fuss he continued.

"I honestly didn't think you wouldn't dodge my attack and if I caused you any injuries you have my deepest apologizes. And I'm sorry for taking your first kiss. There's no excuse for it."

I just stared at him for a moment. It was odd to see him being so reasonable. Then again everyone was being weird today. Still, he was apologizing, that was a start. I leaned forward and stared deep into his eyes.

"You're sorry? Honestly?" I asked skeptically. I noticed him pull back and hold his breath. He nodded. I relaxed back in my seat.

"Ok then. I forgive you. But if you try anything else you'll be eating through a straw," I threatened. I wasn't sure if I could beat him that badly but I didn't want him thinking I'd let him get away with stuff like that again.

"I have a session with your father soon. I think he expects you to be there as well."

I looked down at my watch. It had stayed a big longer then I intended. I dumped the garbage in the trash then walked out of the shop. Yukimaru followed a few steps behind me. Now that he wasn't being so cocky he was more tolerable but I kept my guard up anyway. He didn't speak the whole walk home. I wasn't sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing. I told him to tell my dad I'd be there shortly but I wanted to freshen up first. He just nodded.

Him being quite was a little unsettling but it was better then before. I figured I could get used to it. After all with all the strange goings on today I could tell high school life was going to be anything but ordinary.

I headed upstairs and dropped my things on my bed. I changed out of my clothes into something more comfortable to fight in. Once I was ready I went outside to where Yukimaru was waiting.

"Aki, before we go to train, can I ask you something?" he said, looking very serious.

"Depends on the question." I crossed my arms and looked at him.

He looked as though he was collecting his thoughts. He looked some what uncomfortable though I didn't know why.

"I'm assuming today you met Kevin. What's you opinion of him?"

I laughed. If I didn't know any better I could have swore there was a hint of jealousy in his voice. This looked like the perfect opportunity to get a little revenge.

"He's so dreamy! He's a real man. So nice and polite. If only more guys could be like him." I looked pointedly at him when I said the last part. He definitely took the hint. That sudden look of disgust and anger just made my revenge even sweeter.

"I'd steer clear of him if I were you," he warned. I threw my head back and laughed.

"Not going to happen." I said spitefully. He looked even more upset and stepped right up to me. I shot back the same glare he was giving me.

He took a deep breath and looked like he was about to yell at me but then he stopped. His eyes bore into mine then he stepped back. I looked at him with confusion and he just looked away.

"Guess you don't like mutts like me, huh?" he said lowly then walked off.

My sweet revenge didn't last nearly as long as I wanted it to. Too many people were acting funny today. After the training session I was going to get to the bottom of this. I wasn't going to put up with these mood swings everyday.

To be continued!

I'm back! I got back from rehab yesterday and soon I should start out-patient rehab soon. So how was this chapter? A friend of mine didn't like that Yukimaru hit Aki so I decided to maybe show some reason behind it. He's not a woman beater people! I assure you! Oh and I know I kind of switched point of views in the middle but was it an ok segue? Still more secrets brewing and people acting crazy. I like to show the good and bad sides of everyone. Tell me if you think I'm making people too out of character. I have a basic idea for everyone and why they act the way they do but if you think anyone seems like they switch too drastically let me know. I want my characters to be believable but still staying true to my main ideas. Ok? Oh and thank you all for your kind words. I love all my fans dearly. The nice people who review are the reason I love to write.
