They shall not rest in peace (2nd Jan 2008)
It was midnight when they fled,
Shedding tears of pain while wounds bled.
Their houses and homes were no more,
Now as refugees they flee from war.
Little children, women and elderly men,
Together numbering more than twenty times ten.
With the coming of dawn the began to look about,
Hopping to find a refuge from the terror without.
A church came into view and their hearts began to soar.
At least they could rest though battered and sore.
They trooped in wearily and huddled together,
Trying in vain to keep warm in the chilling weather.
Shouts and screams suddenly rent the air!
And their temporary relief was replaced with despair,
Children screamed and clung to mother dear,
Others ran about haphazardly, wild with fear,
Shouting louder their pursuers closed in.
Barricading all exits they locked them in.
Then they set the church on fire!
To quench their anger they created a pyre
Standing by they watched them burn!
Throwing back those who tried to run
The choked screams and pleas, horrible to hear.
Stench of burning flesh spread with smoke far and near.
Innocent souls perished in unbearable pain.
While the world looked on in vain.
But they shall not rest in peace,
Those who created this ghastly scene,
For the screams will plague their nights.
From the nightmares they will have no respite
They shall never step into the light
Or know a moment's peace from their flight
Unless they balance the scales of justice
THEY SHALL NOT REST IN PEACE!
