My name is Gwen Cassidy and I have long black curly and jade green eyes. I live with my mom in Arizona in a two story house with a dog named zipper.
Chapter 1: Mom's Boyfriend
"Gwen?" Chloe called out from the sliver Taurus as I stood by my own Mercury Milan. I turned with my books in my hands to face her and Kyle. I tensed slightly, but not enough for them to see. Kyle Sanders was my ex-boyfriend as well as Chloe's current one. I know, I know, dating your best friend's ex goes strictly against girl code right? Tell that to Chloe.
"Yeah," Kyle leaned forward to peer at me from the passenger's side. Chloe fluffed her bleached blonde hair and adjusted her sunglasses. Her pink flannel top dipping low into the valley of her breasts. Her newly required breasts. I know that I am her friend and all, but plastic surgery only made her look like a slut. It isn't as if no-one new where you got the new boobs. I mean c'mon, b cup one minute and a double d the next?
"We're still up for tonight right?" She asked. I almost groaned from the reminder. I had promised that we'd all go out to the movies and then out to dinner, since it was Friday night and she didn't want me to be all alone. Frankly I actually liked being away from everybody, especially her and Kyle…together. I nodded slowly trying not to show my inner protests. "Cool, we'll pick you up around six or so, Kay?"
"Uh-huh." I said opening my car door. I wanted to drive as far away from them as possible and keep on going until I ran out of gas. Unfortunately that wouldn't get me far considering the near empty tank that would just make it in time to the nearest gas station.
As Chloe and Kyle drove off I sighed. Why did they have to end up together? Why on earth did Kyle have to dump me by e-mail, and then two days later go out with my best friend? Why would the so-called-best friend then accept his offer? Honestly, I just don't get it.
Slipping on my own gem rigged sunglasses I pulled out of the school parking lot and headed home.
"Hey mom I'm home!" I called closing the front door and kicking off my sandals. Our house was relatively large for a just a mom and a daughter and it sometimes seemed like a mansion to me.
"Hey honey, come out back I want you meet someone!" I tossed my books on the bottom stairs so that I would remember to take them upstairs later, and headed out towards the patio. I could hear laughing, and the low rumble of a male voice. Sliding the glass door I stepped out onto the wooden plank.
Mom was sitting in her favorite seat with her dark blond hair tied up into a bun, and a wine glass in her right hand and the other on the knee of the 'someone'. In fact the 'someone' happened to be a man, a very large and appealing man. He had brown hair with sun-kissed red layers, and golden Carmel eyes that misted, and when he laughed his forearm flexed it gave me a delicious view of his muscles. Calming, mom looked up at me.
"Gwen sweetie I'd like you to meet Mark Diablo, Mark this is my daughter Gwen." Mark smiled at me, flashing a double row of pearly white teeth, and extended a hand. Taking it I smiled back.
"It's very nice to meet you mister Diablo," I said formally. I could feel sudden serge of electricity run up my arm and travel down to my painted pink toes.
"Like wise Gwen, and call me Mark." He added gently. "Mr. Diablo makes me sound old, when I'm only twenty six years old, hardly old at all." Now that both confused at surprised me. Why would a twenty six year old want to date my mother? Granted she was pretty-way more than myself-, but I know for a fact that men didn't usually date women more than ten years older than themselves, and my mom was thirty nine.
"How was school?" Mom asked as I sat down in the chair across from them. I shrugged and looked out into the yard.
"Fine, Chloe and Kyle are picking me up later so we can all go to the movies." Mom frowned.
"I thought that you and Kyle broke up?" I glanced at Mark for a fleeting moment. He seemed to be interested in that part of the conversation.
"We did mom, he and Chloe are dating now." There was silent for a moment as the news of that sunk in mom's head. Her face turned surprised.
"And you're okay with that?"
"Not like I had much of a say in it." I said stiffly. I knew that it was rude to be so mean and flat to her in front of a guest, but it was also rude to talk about my love life-or anything else that pertains to it-in front of him either. Getting the hint she dropped the subject, but I could tell that it would come up again when we were alone.
Instead we all talked about ourselves, and mom explained that she and Mark had met about a month ago at a AA meeting and had been dating three out of the those four. I frankly wasn't surprised. Mom had oodles of guys that I never knew about either until they split or I heard them banging away in her room at night. Personally I think I like this approach a lot better, unless of course they just came from a round of bang time. I eyed them warily. No wrinkles on shirts, no after glow, no tousled hair. Good, no sigh of any sex evidence, and believe you me mom always leaves evidence.
When the door bell rang at five fifty we all blinked in surprise at how dark it was getting outside. Hasting into the house I went to answer the door. Chloe and Kyle stood on the front step with smiles plastered on their faces, and rosy lips. They'd been kissing. Banishing that thought I ushered them into the house.
"Let me just tell mom that we're going." I headed into the kitchen. "Hey mom, we're leaving now. Anything you want me to pick up on my way home?" She was standing over the stove, while Mark sat at the Island chair eating from the fruit bowl.
"No honey, enjoy the movie!" I said goodbye to Mark and headed back to Chloe and Kyle. In truth I had been counting on her suddenly needing me to stay home, but it didn't seem like she did. God I wouldn't either if I had the chance to have that sex god all to myself.
