I'll do it while they sleep. They'll never know before it's too late. I'll sneak in through the back; no one locks their back doors.

The little girl frowned at her dolls. Why were the voices being so mean? They had never been this bad before.

"I can't hear you. You can't scare me if I can't hear you." She announced out loud. They didn't stop though.

I'll stab Bob first, and then I'll get his pretty little wife. Oh, how long I've longed to slit his throat. Maxine began to cry. She loved her Mommy and Daddy; she didn't like the voices talking about hurting them.

Just then, her mother came in to put the young girl to bed, and was upset to see her crying. "Sweetie, what's the matter?" she asked, picking up her daughter.

"The voices are being mean to me." A look of worry touched the mother's features.

"Well, let me tuck you in. I'm sure the voices are just upset you're not in bed yet. You do have kindergarten tomorrow." Maxine nodded, even though she knew that wasn't true. Mommy never believed in the voices, she wouldn't understand. But she let her mother tuck her in and kiss her goodnight without mentioning it again. Whenever she talked about the voices her mommy and daddy would get worried, and she didn't like to worry them. Soon enough, despite the mean voices, she drifted to sleep. And a couple of hours later, she awoke to the sound of screaming.
